Cashback claim form: here
I will wait for G7 at this price
Does the server have to arrive before the 31st August for the claim to be valid?
"Product must have been delivered and invoiced between 1st
July and 31st August 2012."
"Rapid / Specified Day Delivery. £12.46"

Cheaper to buy the other
They have no way to tell when it was delivered, to my knowledge. Provided you don't hit a problem with working days. You just fill in the form and send it off, say it arrived the day after you bought it regardless. The receipt will only show the day you actually made the purchase, so you should be fine.
Is the online / email invoice good enough for the cash back claim?
Thats what I sent them, but you do need the serial number from the server itself.
Does anybody know how much energy this consumes when not active?

Also, I have a ZyXEL NSA310 - could somebody give me an idea of what I would gain from upgrading to the microserver? The ZyXel if ok, but occasionally drops off the network. Any advice appreciated :-)

They will renew the offer again next month just like they do every month
Thanks gone for this. Cheapest so far with Quidco I believe. Should come to £89.15 with Quidco and cash back
nice deal, still trying to set up the first one though, im struggling to understand the tech, mostly how to install xbmx onto it and then auto login so i can watch on my tv connected via HDMI
I dont even need one as I already have one but am even tempted to buy this as a spare. Because Sods Law dictates I wont be able to find one when I do need it.
Wow .. this just keep getting cheaper! Will copy past my 'useful guide post' from the other thread as it may help others here as well...

As always, plenty of well documented guides around if you don't know what this is capable of.

Can this be used as a desktop pc for web browsing?
Yes it can

Yes it can but it doesn't include an operating system and won't have a sound card etc. It's really not the purpose it was intended for so I'd advise caution and maybe go down another route.
STOP IT I CAN'T AFFORD THESE RIGHT NOW ARRRRGGGHHHHHH!
zomi

Yes it can

And only has a VGA out.
I used it as a desktop for about a week. It's a little bulky, loud and slow for that purpose but it worked as you might expect a machine with these specs. So it's primarily a mini server but can be used as a cheap desktop with the additon of a grpahics card (google for the best type) and an operating system (linix, WIndows, etc)

No need to go down another route, will make a perfectly good desktop / Media player & streamer / NAS / Virtual Host!!!

Just need to get an ATI 5450 silent graphics card for around £28 for 1GB DDR3 model, which will give you Full HD graphics and digital sound through HDMI port.

You can install Linux, XBMC, ESX or Hyper-V for free depending on what you want to use the server for (desktop, NAS, Media, Virtualisation etc...)

This is the best little play box ever and worth it's price in parts alone. Virtually silent when running and very low power usage.

With respect, for someone asking if a microserver can be a home pc, I don't think the options you have provided are particularly suitable.
I just with HDD's were cheap again...
Just bought a second one of these for our office. Using them with Hyper-V for development build and TFS servers, plus a fileshare and intranet wiki. What a bargain

I just spoke to servers direct. They'll price match £202.20 if you call them for this delivered tomorrow, if you have a particular preference for this by them instead of buy-hp.
Can you claim the cashback via email using the the online / email invoice, or does it all have to be done by post ?
You wouldnt get the TCB on a phone order though unfortunately
You can do it via email (they prefer this method). Once received, the cashback cheque takes almost exactly six weeks to arrive.

To illustrate some potential uses of the microserver, with my N40L, I have:

- Stuck a bunch of hard drives in it (obviously)
- Installed Windows Home Server 2011
- Installed XMBC (Auto-login enabled, launches XBMC on startup)
- Added an ATI 6450 low profile graphics card which gives you video and sound over HDMI
- Ran an HDMI cable through to my telly
- Upgraded memory to 8GB
- Installed .NET development tools for software development
- Added uTorrent for downloads
- Added HP wireless keyboard with touchpad

There's a lot more you can do with it than what I've done, too.

It's literally the best thing I've bought in years, and at this price you should really consider it.
Support 4tb hitachis ?

Does the ATi 5450 work in Linux. I tried to use this card for XBMCbuntu and could not get it too work. I want to get another box and would be good to know if someone has got it too work.
I guarentee that HP will extend the cashback offer on this once again, so ill wait 2 days to see what heppens before i buy a spare.

I bought mine last year, and it was only casback until the end of Aug back then lol
Damn you HUKD, I am so tempted to purchase to replace my DLink NAS. How many likes I receive on this comment will determine if I purchase or not
Cold, they charge more to deliver to Scotland than they do to a foreign country.

For those asking about graphics cards........ I did post a huge list of useful guides and pages worth reading for potential owners on another of the HP microserver threads but cant find my original post to repaste in here.
Makes the Raspberry Pi looks expensive.

I have an N30L, great bit of kit.
sweet, ordered. 10 days to delivery is a little concerning regarding the cashback, but we'll see
Finally pulled the trigger!
Thanks OP.
Fingers crossed CB is extended into next month.
