7" Windows 8 Tablet from HP. It's the MS Signature edition, so no bloat or cack ware.
Pretty standard fare spec wise now, but better than standard build, and a whopping 25% off normal price.

7-inch HD touch screen
Intel Atom Z3735G

1GB memory/32GB eMMC
Up to 8 hours battery life
Office 365 Personal
1TB of OneDrive storage

Don't forgert, it also include a year of Office 365 too... think of what you can put in the Onedrive space...

Only a little bit more than the £59.99 linx that wen t supernova here recently, I know what I'd spend my money on.

this is 49.99 now on Microsoft Store. microsoftstore.com/sto…300

Will this handle 1080p video? I've been looking for a tablet and the stream 7 with full windows seems a good cheap option.

No 1080p video is a deal breaker for me however.

Saying that, at this price it's a steal

It will all depend on the codec, but basically, yes it will.
On the other hand of course, why would you need it to? 720p would be enough surely on this screen?

2.1% cashback through Topcashback would bring the price down to.... a bit less

Aaargh HUKD is going to drive me broke

Have some heat OP. Great price for a good piece of equipment

The way I see it, decent hardware from a reliable source, with a good, solid build of Windows on it...
And free office 365!

Does anybody know there is any upgrade fee that can be paid to get the 5 pc office 365 on top of this ?

not bad. heart added

No. it's activates when you sign in with the tablet for the first time. Any existing 365 subscription will be exended, if you have it already.

Have the Linx 8, and would love this for the extra battery life. But why oh why did they not include a mini hdmi port.

Very annoying!

I put a similar specced tablet onto my TV, showing full HD content in 1080p and it runs it smooth. The processor on these are pretty decent. The main issue is they forgot to add a HDMI out, so it will play HD content but only on the in-built screen.

My advice would be find a Linx 8, that has HDMI out and also runs World of Tanks, MAME, and the ol' favourite Minecraft.

This or the LG G Pad I just bought (now available for £66.99) both 7" but other than OS what's different? I don't mind trying a new OS and I can still return the G Pad but I'm absolutely loving it so far. Any advice?

This video claims that the output isn't 1080 when connected to external screens.
Also minecraft is laggy.

Are windows tablets for business users? I can't think of a reason to choose this over an android tablet.

pc games use my linx 8 for scads of steam indie games and hearthstone (ok, mainly hearthstone) but also 2d/visual novel type stuff and strategy games (can even run xcom from memory card with occasional stutter). main downside is linx 8's battery life is abysmal plus it behaves like a laptop and shuts down wifi along with screen and has a day standby tops if you don't power it completely off. 7" seems way too small for windows IMO but all these tablets have same specs and are surprisingly capable if you think of them as a tiny no-keyboard netbook rather than a tablet.

When you use your email address you actually can put the office 365 on a computer as well as the tablet. I've done it but it does expire in a year though.

I watch football on flash streaming websites which don't work on android.

Anyone compared this to the Linx tablets? I'm in the market for a windows one

i use my celestron neximage software on my dell venue 8 pro, theres all sorts of reasons to have a little windows tablets over android, i cant think of any reasons to have android now!

maybe you should give mhl to hdmi cable a try?
I played HD videos and games from my galaxy S3 to my PC monitor via mhl cable.

how do you play Mincraft with out a keyboard as my son wants one to play mincraft on but i can not see a way to without a bluetooth keyboard. thanks for many advice

It is a good price, but is it any better than the Linx? It does not have an HDMI output (no go for me), HP Service can be terrible, and their quality is pretty average, too.

Well, the Linx is now 80 quid, and yes, I'd rather put my faith in HP than an otherwise small company who had a one hit wonder, with dubious screens and headphone issues...
And you are buying this from MS themselves, with SIgnature edition Windows install. Any issues with warranty or the tablet, MS are pretty good warranty wise.

only 1GB ram, isn't 2GB min the norm now?

Not for these cheapies, no.
1 |gig is normal. They run pretty well too. I wouldn't suggest running too may desktoip apps, but if you can live withint the Modern interface, or limit your use of the desktop, then you'll have no issues.
General concensus is that MS have done a fine job of optimising Win8 for these.

one thing about windows is you can buy those really cheap keyboard cases(£4 +PnP) that plug into the usb port.
not the best best but functional.

battery life probably won't be that much better than the linx

4.9 hours of browsing or movie playback. Not great, but not disastrous. Very similar to Linx 8:

anandtech.com/sho…w/5

Why is everyone comparing this to the Linx 8? The Linx 7 is a closer match and also has HDMI out.

Connected Standby is what burns the battery on these things, disable it and then it will sit powered off for over a month - ok, so it takes 5 seconds to power back up instead of 1 but not having to plug it in because it's drained itself everytime is a worthwhile sacrifice.

Dammit I've given in and ordered one

I've seen the HP Stream 7, Linx 7, Linx 8.

Screens on the HP and Linx 7 are nasty. (for tablets)

Linx 8 has a much nicer screen for little more money.

Using one of these cables it offers 3 full size USB ports (so add a USB keyboard and mouse to play minecraft) and its even got a micro USB charger so you can charge the tablet and use USB devices at the same time.

£2.95 from good ol' Hong Kong. You can get them from the UK but there nearly twice as much, personally I'm a skin flint and don't mind three weeks delivery.

**EDIT** Be careful of the 3 port ones that offer 2xUSB and 1x Mini USB, they DO NOT work with these tablets, I have tried 3 different types now, and if you notice the 4 port cable has a manual switch at the side that lets you set charge on the micro USB port.

It's not awful but it's far from the best. As a comparison point to the HP though, the Linx 7 is the closest unit. The Linx 8 is better built but it's usually £40 more than the 7 (66%).

I've got a Dell Venue 8 Pro and I'm very disappointed with the lack of top name apps such as Temple Run, Temple Run 2 & Angry Birds in the Windows App Store.

There's too many clone versions of Flappy Birds. Not what I expected for a company like Microsoft.
