This printer can now be had for £190.72. As it is coming from seller Printerland, it is eligible for the £60 cashback and should be eligible for the free 3-year onsite warranty too.
From one of the review on Amazon, it says the printer has a chip to prevent non-HP cartridge. So are we even able to use the linked cartridges? Is there a way to get it to work?

Hi the cashback link took me to french hp site - no cashback noted ( although I cannot read french) do you get the cashback if you buy from amazon?
\

I've used this printer and bought non HP toner as quoted by OP above but it rejected them. Unsure if other toner is available otherwise this printer is very expensive to run.

I thought they were forced to allow customers to have the option of using compatibles. My officejet had that problem, but after a firmware update it would give you a warning but still let you use it.

FWIW here's a list of the easiest printers to refill.
Hi, thanks for all the answers. I ended up buying the printer from Amazon, but that was before people responded about the compatibles .. incompatibility here. However, I have some information that may help others.

1. CASHBACK. I bought from amazon, but chose the seller as 'PrinterLand'. I paid £186 and HP has accepted the cashback request. I have just received an email saying they'll be paying in my account. I think I bought on the 9th or 10th of June online and received the printer early last week . Then claimed a couple of days after - so barely a week before today's email.
2. TONER COMPATIBILITY. Thanks to some pointers on the internet, I have found a setting in the printer which removes the 'cartridge protection'. I'm hoping that it will now allow the use of compatibles, as advised by some other users. However, I'm not able to test this for sure, since I haven't bought these yet. I'll wait until I've nearly ran out.
3. SIZE - This printer is BIG. I didn't realise how big it was until I tried to find a place to put it in. It dwarfs my old all-in-one inkjet HP. I would not have bought it, if I realised the size first.
4. QUALITY. Prints are coming out nice, fast and in automatic duplex. And now that I have put it somewhere and started using it, despite what I said about the size above, I have changed my mind and think it was an excellent purchase. The Setup was a breeze .. I actually didn't do anything apart from plugging it in and putting the Wifi password. I then found it on my list of printers without having to install anything. Magic.

If you haven't thrown those compatibles away, there's something you can try. Go to the settings page by going through http on your browser. Go on the printer properties on your PC. Go to the webservices tab and click on the http link (which is basically http://ipaddress).

You will get a browser page with the printer settings. Go to the 'System' tab and click on 'Supply Settings'. Set 'Cartridge Policy' and 'Cartridge Protection' to OFF.
