Santander are soon to charge Business customers on their old free accounts 7.50 GBP a month for banking with them. Switch to HSBC and escape all charges, providing you don't go over usage limits.

any evidence of the santander charging £7.50 per month?
HSBC Business Direct tariff has been around for ages, best for business banking in my opinion. Note that it is NOT 100% free as there are some transaction charges outside of the limits...

If you do switch to HSBC you would be able to take 6 months free banking first and then ask to move on to the business direct tariff
HSBC are a rip off... avoid them at all costs
Do all business accounts charge u 2.5 percent to put cash in?
at mo on their free banking boz account so will be shopping around as finishes end of year. £32 annual fee for credit card.

Over the coming months your Business Current Account will be transferred … Over the coming months your Business Current Account will be transferred to our award-winning £7.50 fixed monthly fee account, which has been selected based on the amount of cash you currently deposit each month.

So, maybe they are only switching some accounts?

I pay no cash in, it's just Paypal transfers going in. So there's no reason to charge me anything, because it's expensive for them to take cash but not BAC transfers.

everyone's going to get the charges..just in stages. they will see how many leave and then apply a strategy.

Yep, got my letter on Monday....

Someone told me they pay cash into their personal ac and then transfer to the business account to avoid charges
I have three business accounts; when I go close to the limit on one, I pay all my cheques into the other and write one out. Makes it easier for tax returns and accounting. Didn't Santander claim their business banking was going to be free, forever? Anyone do business banking with co-op or building society?
Just had my letter from Santander. I have written to them saying I would like to stay with my original account and when I opened this they (Abbey) said it would be free day to day banking forever - provided I stay within the specified limits.

Also told them I thought 0.25% gross/AER was NOT a great rate of interest - rather a derisory one seeing they want to relieve me of £7.50 per month.

If they insist on this I shall close ALL my accounts with them and look elsewhere.

I don't think they should be allowed to get away with this - after all they took all my Bradford & Bingley assets without paying me anything and no one asked me whether I agreed to it!
