For me, the big issues with my Windows Phone are .....

    (a) I love it, and I've been using WP7 virtually since it's inception onto my hacked HTC HD2 - so knocking on for two years. As soon as I started using it I NEVER went back to Android (apart from my Vega tablet, but I use the phone far, far more than that). It is so much smoother than Android and I literally don't care that it doesn't have half a million apps. As long as it has the ones I genuinely need, then it's fine.

    (b) It is so useable. I need to make a call - dead easy. Need to add a contact - simple, plus auto-backup to my live account. Take a pic, it's auto-uploaded to Skydrive so even if the phone gets smashed five mins later, my photos are safe. Social networks? All built in and super-easy to use. Plus, in terms of of my Lumia 710 - it has been dropped onto concrete from head height and survived with just a dent in the plastic. Solid, reliable phones with a great OS.

    (c) Inexpensive.

    (d) Great Nokia apps such as Music, Drive etc.

    (e) It impresses me that I personally don't think Microsoft/Nokia are being greedy unlike certain other firms. I don't feel aggrieved that my phone won't get WP8. It's not a big deal to me. As and when I move to WP8 this solid little phone will go to my daughter, with a natty yellow back cover for £6 off Amazon.

    People should try it.............

And not just for half a day - try it for a week or two, then you'll really come to appreciate that everything just works.

Yup Beats Audio can easily be replicated by using equaliser settings meaning it's nothing more than an EQ Profile. Massive con along with their headphones. Great branding though, suckered so many people in. The reason Android is so flexible because you can use CM9 DSP Manager for example to get even better audio quality or you can even install Beats Audio if you really must or Awesome Beats audio profile.

I know this is a Windows phone, just providing the info for people that might be interested :P

I'm interested in WP8. I had a Samsung Omnia 7 with WP7.5. I thought it was a very slick efficient OS, but not mature enough. A bit like IOS was on the Iphone 2G. WP8 I'm hoping will sort out the lack of features and customisation. Alas nothing will be as flexible as Android along with the amount of apps available. Tizen, Meego, Maemo, Symbian, somewhat yes but total lack of apps.

    Yip RIP Nokia

i dont think so ... pureview cameras almost certainly a quantum leap better than anything else on a phone and likely better in low light than anything sub micro 4/3 (Compact system cameras) and quite a few killer nokia apps due (like nokia music or turnbyturn nav on 7)

come on nokia lets have some aggresive pricing on a proper pureview slimline win8 phone and kick some crapple ass :-)

and also note HTC will probably be paying MS a bigger patent licence on its android phones than its licence fee on win 8 phones .. no wonder HTC is keen on 8 ;-) ...

Better off waiting until microsoft bring out a proper windows 8 phone … Better off waiting until microsoft bring out a proper windows 8 phone based on the new tablet OS. Windows 8 mobile is actually just windows 7.8 with a windows 8 style theme, a rushed effort to steer people away from the upcoming iphone 5.

Not doing the reputation of essex any good are you.

I really like what HTC have done. Nice thin phones, nicer colours IMHO than the Nokia.
I will probably get the Lumia 920 for that fantastic camera!

But these HTCs are tempting. They look really tactile.
    Love that 8s colour strip.

Seems like a really good price considering the Lumia 800 is £175 PAYG or £199 simfree. The spec comparison between these two phones are not too dissimilar but the key difference is the the HTC 8s will be able to run WP8. They both have 512Mb RAM and a screen resolution of 800 x 480 but the 8s is at 4inch vs 3.7inch on the Lumia. The 8s only has 5MP on the rear facing camera vs the 8MP on the Lumia.

Some of the other features that the 8s has but the Lumia 800 doesn't are...

    • MicroSD slot
    • Dual core CPU vs single on the Lumia 800

For the rest of the comparison, see this...

    gsmarena.com/com…000

EDIT -> as of Fri 21st, Asda have the Lumia 800 at £149 simfree

Ram and cores and performance are more applicable to the operating system. Of course consumers see more and think more is always better.

    2p cheaper than RRP

HTC make good hardware, its their HTC Sense that is crap and I'm sure Microsoft won't let them put it on.

WP8 is not an untested OS even though it may be lacking in Apps initially, the framework allows for this for apps across Windows8 , Xbox ,etc...

I think this is the lower end HTC win 8 phone (and its a good spec for the price) .. i love win phone 7 . makes my old iphone and ipad iOS6 look like noahs ark .. looking forward to windows 8 (i miss win phone 7 not having vpn functionality and a few more bluetooth profiles and a very few key media apps) .

my £150 win phone 7 Optimus 7 is still going strong and battery life aside i will wait till it dies (as i am very happy with it) and then get i hope by then a top end win 8 nokia 4 incher with i hope a pureview (proper) large sensor camera, decent lens and a few more stunning nokia apps .. since i started using 7 i havnt used my iphone anymore and its gone to my niece who likes pretty shiny things :-)

Its not though is it... They are using a different core now. Its now based on WinNT rather than WinCE. WinPhone 7.8 is for the older phones as an upgrade to 7.5.

Looks better than the One S and the One V - opinion of course, but one I expect is shared by many.

The entry barrier to Windows Phone 8 will not be low. This is unsubsidised, unlocked. With subsidisation it could be down to £18 on a contract - from release.

My old single core Omnia 7 is still a better user experience than my quad core HTC OneX.

Going back to android was the worst mistake. I'll be picking up a Windows Phone when they are released.

People are confusing Windows Mobile, a dying os, with Windows Phone, a new efficient os on par with ios and android.

Windows phone 8 uses the same core as windows 8 on your computer. Windows phone 7.5 is an update for last years windows phones, windows phone 8 is new. The os will be good but they need to announce it in detail still.

Yeah it's not very convincing when there's no demos of WP8 or full … Yeah it's not very convincing when there's no demos of WP8 or full feature listing and people are supposed to pre-order blind? Nokia have the branding with these phones especially with their PureView and image stabilisation features. Very little demonstration of WP8, definitely not a good sign >http://features.techworld.com/mobile-wireless/3382426/htc-8x-8s-hands-on-with-new-windows-phone-8-devices/

Not sure you come to the conclusion that it's not a good sign that they havent annouced all the features of an unreleased product. You'll get to hear about it all at the end of next month in the "big reveal", Most of the OEM's don't even know what features are included as they have been given a stripped down version for testing on their devices. I think Microsoft are trying to build the hype with all this secrecy ala Apple (well, not there last attempt).

Judging by the leaked SDK, WP8 will allow a lot more customisation. Possibly not as much as Android though. It's also been reported this morning on wmpoweruser.com that the Lumia's will be pretty cheap so it might be best to hold off pre-ordereding anything. ZTE have yet to announce what there lineup will be either.

MS need to do something to persuade them...

Apps won't be an issue. Already most of the major Apps are scheduled for launch (nokia.com/gb-…pps). Plus when it comes to any development, you can't really beat Microsoft tools in terms of ease of use (although they can be expensive). Also porting apps from Windows 8 to Windows Phone 8 will be quite easy, especially games that rely on DirectX. Since Windows is the clear dominant OS in the desktop market, expect tons of apps to be created for it, which can then be ported across to the phone.

I think Windows is set to create an ecosystem which will be as strong, if not stronger, than Apple's one.

The Nokia 920 is on a different league, but will also cost much more (probably twice as much). This is a budget Windows 8 phone, the Lumia 920 is the flagship product not only for Nokia but for the whole OS.

A £200 unlocked new phone (and not subsidized) is considered a budget phone. As part of a contract it will probably be free.

The 920 inferior to the ATIV? That's a new one... X)
