HTC Desire on Orange's Panther 30 (24 month contract)

- 400 minutes / Unlimited Texts
- Unlimited Internet (Fair Use - 750MB per month - no charges for exceeding by accident)
- Free Orange Maps (Extra Alternative to Google Nav) - Not needed but a nice freeby
- Unlimited Push E-mail

£30/m + 11 months Half-Price Line Rental (£175 cashback via redemption)
Total contract cost over 24 months = £545

Good alternative for people like me coming out of T-Mobile contract and being offered rubbish redemption deals. Unlike other Orange deals this has unlimited internet (instead of being charged if you exceed 500MB). Fair use kicks in at 750MB but Orange have stated you won't be charged for exceeding this but may have service reduced.

Also £40 cashback available via Quidco
(Note: If trying to find deal you have to select the Panther 30 deal which gives a free Rowing machine [or keep the rowing machine if that's your bag...]. Then down the bottom of the screen you have the option to choose £175 cashback instead)

Finally - phone is definately in stock as mine is being delivered this morning.

Got a better deal off Vodaphone:

Desire - Free, 600 mins , Unlimted Text & Internet:

24 mths - £25 per mth = £600 or

18 mths - £30 per mth = £540

I too got a better deal off vodafone.

Free Desire, 600 mins, unltd txt and internet.

21 months @ 22.50 + 3 months @£30.
No need to worry about cashbacks or missing any claims.

Total cost over 24 months: £562.50 or £23.44 per month.

Which one of these is better than the Orange deal? Your 18 month deal total outlay is only £5 less - for £5 more you could have 6 months line rental. 24 month deal is more again.

Fair enough if you don't like claiming cashback though. I've been doing it for years and quite like getting the cheques through every few months.

Also, be careful with the "unlimited" internet - with vodafone the fair use limit is 500MB - not sure what happens if you exceed this on a regular basis.

**Edit**
Had a wee look into it (bored at work) vodafone don't seem to worry about you exceeding the 500MB - see attached link:

Sorry Robbie wasn't meaning to slate your offer.

I personally think 24mths is way too long and these mobile providers are just milking it!

I'm still on the look out for a desire ideally I don't want to pay more that £25 per mth for 18 mths, but I need at least 500 mins and internet.

Absolutely stunning phone. My only gripe is the Friend Stream. Does anyone know hieroglyphics clear it down. It's got every Facebook, Twitter and Flickr update since I connected. Surely its got to reach some kind of limit?

No worries Sam - I didn't really want a 24 month contract either but the best £25 18m contract I could find only gave you 300 mins which is a bit tight.

Given how much prices seem to be shooting up on Desire plans I felt the need to grab one before they all disappeared!

Happy hunting.

I would be careful about getting a desire from orange: avforums.com/for…tml

It seems they preload a lot of crapware onto the phone's (quite limited) onboard memory and lock you out of google's own apps (maps, gtalk) to force you into using their versions. It might be possible to flash the phone, but this is still w*nkery of the highest order.

I agree with the above - will be checking the phone's performance when it arrives. If it is a problem, as you say, I will have to look into flashing with a generic ROM. I'll try and remember to post whether it's really as bad as is being claimed.

I'm surprised this deal has gone so cold. It seemed a lot better to me than the other Orange contracts currently on offer due to it being Panther rather than Dolphin. I guess the other option people are going with is Vodafone. However, it's a couple of weeks till I get my PAC code from T-Mobile so I can't go for these.

Anyone else in similar situation to me should find this to be one of the cheapest options around at the moment...

Wow thanks for that didn't realise! I want a Desire and was considering Orange but sod that if this is true! I'll stick to Vodafone, now I just need a decent deal!
