HTC Diamond on Vodafone in shop - free on £30 contract - coming 14th July

Feature rich Windows Mobile 6.1 device utilising HTC's new Touchflow UI. This device is in a tablet form factor meaning it is touch screen only. It comes loaded with Vodafone Email Plus and the Vodafone Sat Nav program. Launch expected in July

In Business Catalogue only.
Online it just says "coming soon".

SORRY about the link. There is no way i can make it work.
however, if you go to the vodafone website vodafone.co.uk and search for "Diamond" you will find it.

I stress that the details are in the July Vodafone Business Retail catalogue and NOT online yet.

Note that the PAYG price in the Vodafone Catalogue is £230, but someone has reported that this might be a misprint and is in fact £400.

£230 PAYG is a typo (shame)

Hi everyone,

Just to clarify, this is in fact a typo in the magazine ohmy.gif

The handset only price for the Diamond will be £400; we're so sorry for the confusion!

I suggest you go to shop and look in latest business catalogue. I confirmed with store sales the delivery date and price. However, the delivery date could just be for central London, not sure if it extends to rest of network on 14th july.

Price is wrong - confirmed on the vodafone forums. Price will be £400.00 (still not bad).

Sorry, can't post links as too new and it require moderating!

Also here with 6 months free line rental and free mins/texts.

I think someone also posted a deal from Orange where for £35 you also get unlimited internet. Unless you have lots of wifi access best to have a unlimited data plan to get the best out of this phone.
Orange deal -- coming soon

After the iPhone 3G release we might get some better deals on the HTC Diamond

With the iPhone coming out next Friday I doubt O2 would want to release anything else until August for fear of having it completely over shadowed

does quidco still pay on business contract ?

6 months half price line rental by redemption (cashback deal)

Correct, brain cell must be clogged up:thumbsup:

Hi can anyone tell me how long before you can downgrade your vodaphone contract?

with the cashback deals you usually cant as it makes deal invalid, but with the auto-cashback is it possible to downgrade asap once you have received the cash?

does not look very tempting

Just got this on T-Mobile. Been using it for a week and no problems so far. Amazed to see how much stuff this phone can do for its size. Already have TomTom running on there as it has built-in gps.
I've encountered no bugs so far, but there is a site dedicated for this phone where you can iron out all the bugs and apply tweaks to make it work faster.

Good, but not fantastic, already have the HTC Diamond for free on Orange on a £25 tariff.
Dolphin 35 is £30 online, reduced to £25 by phoning up retentions at renewal time.
600 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited (500mb) internet.

Can be unlocked using ]this - £3.5 (I would call it "for free")

Just a word of warning. That forum does not tolerate 'newbies' asking questions that have already been posted. It seems to me that a lot of people do supply a lot of man hours there and they believe that the leachers should at least spend some time searching.

If you are prepared to use 'third party' ROM's you should be able to vastly improve any HTC phone product. I'm really not too sure what it does to your warranty though, as I am not too sure if the procedure is reversible.

I have gleaned enough info from the site to recommend it.

Works out at £35.00 with VAT added.

I, too have used the site a lot over the years and have had no problems with Tmobile regarding warranty repairs with a xda rom installed. But then again it is a windows phone so it is there to be tinkered with!

It does seem this phone has been released too early and there are some issues which need to be addressed, but a lot is being done by XDA-developers as mentioned above and I am sure HTC will be working on improvements behind scenes.
The only killer for me is the battery. How they could release a mobile phone that shows at best a day and a half charge is beyond me! Again maybe they might improve this with new updates.

Luckily I am not due for an update yet as I got an 18 month contract, so by the time I am due an update I will be able to see how these phones have fared over the first three months of their release

BTW for anyone wanting an memory slot the diamond pro is due out shortly... maybe further issues will be addressed too?

Becuase its a PDA as well as a phone and it draws a lot of power to run the screen among other things.

Also if you have it check email .etc regularly it often leaves a data connection up so it's talking to things on the internet quite often (I have my kaiser setup with an exchange server and therefore it keeps the data connection on prettymuch all the time)

I would suggest anyone getting one of these type of phones to get a decent data package with it as its possible to use a fair bit of data.

It might be in the business catalogue but I suspect they will sell it on a consumer tarrif (phone might not be free tho) i know I was asking about one of the PDA phones in my local vodafone store and they seemed quite willing to sell it on a non business tarrif

I have one on a non business tariff. I upgraded at end of contract term for this on £30 per month 12 month contract, had to pay £50 for the unit though.

I think the phone is great, but the battery life is appaling.

I have been on the xda forum quite a bit and have managed to get TT7 Navigator working on mine, i had to purchase a new map from TT website for £50 but that's fine. I had to have TT apposed to the built in sat nav as I use my work SIM in it and I do not have a data connection on that card, i can connect Wi-Fi though so no problems.

With the GPS being active the battery life will last less than a day!!!! 2 1.5hr trips to a site and back and the unit will be dead at the end of the day, although I have got a car USB Charger to power it now so no problems at all. Due to having this phone I have sold my TT Go910, Dell PDA and my Samsung G600 on ebay for nearly £300 al together so well happy.

As for the other previously listed problems
Poor battery life - Ahh yeah
Fingerprint nightmare - Yes
Average sunlight legibility - OK
No memory card slot - agreed
Questionable build quality - i thinks it a solid well built unit, just look after it and use the case
Tri-band GSM support only - Dont know
No TV out port - Dont care
No standard 3.5mm audio jack - True
Back panel design has negative impact on usability and camera image quality - Disagree
Back panel finish started to wear off in a few weeks of usage - Not on mine
Limited scroll wheel usage - There is no scroll wheel!

the scroll wheel usage, i think it's only to use for zoom in and out of webpages. you rotate it just like you do it on an ipod.

+ album
+ camera
+ tomtom 7 (!)

this is standard

I think there are some mods on xdadev which allow you to use it in other places

I know exactly what type of phone it is because I have been loyal to HTC since the C500. I still argue battery life is not good enough BUT we will see how things pan out I guess. There is a larger battery and back available.

Wish HTC would make one of these with a bigger screen and larger battery. A 2.8" just wastes a VGA screen - could be so good for net browsing if not. Similarly with the battery, it's not like the unit is big already, there's plenty of room for higher capacity.
