That's a poor comparison. 3.5mm isn't going anywhere as a universal audio standard, the only abandonment is coming from phone manufacturers who want to sell people expensive Bluetooth headphones to replace the perfectly good wired ones they already own.

All this new trend smartphones without 3.5 mm audio jack. AWFUL!

You think more people own bluetooth headphones than wired ones? I very much doubt that's true.

I'm yet to see a reasonable justification for losing the headphone jack. It's less convenient, the sound quality is poorer, many bluetooth sets suffer from latency when watching video, using an adapter means I can't charge and listen at the same time, which I do every single day at work. Not to mention that bluetooth earbuds would last about 5 minutes in my house with a small child and a cat. They'd have disappeared before they hit the coffee table. The jack will reappear once companies realise people don't want it to go, the same way expandable storage was dropped and then reintroduced.

Voted hot for price but wouldn't touch this with a barge pole... Whatever that means.

Great deal. Underrated phone. Was expensive to begin with but at a good price now

his review was based on the released price!

It's £449 on HTC's website, the U11 is the one that usually retails around £649.

Still a good price I guess at under £400.

It was indeed.

... But a combination of the shortcomings (battery, design, unwieldy, lack of headphone jack, last years flagships are already around this price and very similar internally to this) and it being from Very = a no buy from me.

Still it is a good price compared to elsewhere so I've voted hot for that reason... Additionally when you compare it to the iPhone 8 Plus and X it starts to look a better offering...

I was of course being a bit daft with my comparison, but every smartphone that doesn't feature a 3.5mm socket comes with a free adapter in the box.

So, for the minority of people who don't own bluetooth headphones of some kind, there is still a solution. I remember getting a Samsung LCD TV that didn't have a SCART socket but came with an adapter, it was a shock at the time, but now who uses SCART?

And the vast majority of companies selling bluetooth headphones are not phone manufacturers.

I think the majority of people that own a recent flagship smartphone will own bluetooth earphones/headphones, yes.

As much as I am not an iPhone user, I can't deny it's popularity - it has NEVER had expandable storage.

Apart from extreme models such as Apple AirPods, Bluetooth headphones/earphones are comparable in size to wired ones.

Damn, had a 20% off code run out 10 days ago. Would have gone for this.

The fact you have had 'numerous' would suggest you haven't had any top of the range ones, but anyhoo...

I'm not saying wired headphones are going anywhere, but I am confident that the phone makers that have dropped the 3.5mm socket won't be bringing it back.

Lovely price, but many other phones for this or less and without the gripes. Still, I thought I'd spent as much as I ever did on my Ericson T68 I'm 2003 - look at the crazyness now. People are deranged. How.much for an iPhone X again?

Same for cex if you don't like return it for full refund within 14 days. Trust me who ever is buying will most likely keep it. I have had many smartphones of grade A and few grade B from CEX and they deliver for their prices. Also I have bought devices from retailers aswell.

Many headphones now have USB. It's great that 3.5 is gone. Saves space. Just use the USB or Bluetooth. Move with the times

Not much good to me then if I can't charge at the same time.

What does it save space for? My current flagship is too thin and flimsy as it is, which is why I put a case on it.

3.5mm is going nowhere. You're demented if you think laptops, games consoles, stereos, guitars, microphones, literally every other device on the planet that transmits audio is going to go to bluetooth only.

Some people like quality headphones. The only decent bluetooth IEM I've come across are the extremely difficult to purchase RHA MA750 wireless @£149.99. Notice the neckband requirement to give decent battery life. It's also a lot of money by comparison to the traditional, and obviously slight better, wired version.

Saving space for what?

I don't think modern TVs have a DVD slot in them either, apart from maybe 19" Bush/Polaroid ones...

I'm sure that is true of audiophile grade headphones, that you would use sat in a leather wing-backed chair, sipping the finest brandy and listening to some Bach.

But on the train listening to your Samsung/iPhone, not at all, Bluetooth is totally up to the job.
