those are subject to buying airtime

San Francisco from Orange is better & cheaper.

Not voting.

FroYo Android 2.2 update now available for Wildfire, but personally I would rather buy at same price from P4U

It's been this price at Woolworths for months.

P4U deal is better. Would cost about £20 to get this unlocked whereas the P4U ones come unlocked. Granted, you need to buy £10 talktime but still better value.

I can only pity who buy this mobile phone. Such a stupid screen resolution that I could not put up with it for longer than a week. Orange San Francisco is 100 times better value than this phone.

I bought this phone, personally the screen is too small and the resolution is too low. Going to save up some more cash and get an Xperia

Are all phones for you stock unlocked? And are they branded?

Calm down, calm down, dear - it's only a deals site!

Seriously, I do agree and have experienced same myself, but there's no prize involved, just qudos, so chill a bit. If it's any consolation, by reading the posts you can deduce that the average IQ of posters is pretty low so mad results are bound to result.

On the plus side, the site provides some great tip-offs so I just go with the flow and try to be philosophical about the crazy voting.

You answered your own question, you just don't realise it. What happens is that whiny, childish posters vote cold for their own petty reasons, rather than based on whether the deal is actually hot or not.

Like you just did.

You lose the moral high ground when you categorically prove that you're part of the problem, sunshine.

Got this same offer at Argos a month ago. £140 for a cut down HTC Desire I think is a bargain.

The phone can be slightly slow at times due to the slower CPU and less RAM but nothing particularly annoying. The screen size is obviously a bit smaller than the current crop of phones but at the same time, means that the phone is physically quite small. I've not experienced almost any problems with being unable to download apps because of the screen res being too small.

At the end of the day, I bought it to replace a Nokia E72 on a contract with a year left on it so it's only a stopgap but even then, for the money it's a great phone. Even though the Orange SF is better all round on hardware, I think you need to consider the Sense UI that the Desire has as well.

Has it not been £129 for about 4 months now? I bought mine from Play for the same price several months ago.

Personally, after much use, it's not a bad price for the phone if you've already got a sim card and whatnot as it doesn't involve buying a 18-24 month contract as well. If there's anything I detest it's 2 year phone contracts worth about £40 a month, yet the person who owns the phone believe it's a great deal because the phone was actually "free".

As a phone, this HTC Wildfire is very good. For texting, it's good, but not amazing. As a media centre and internet browser it isn't particularly very good. It will load up BBC News pages instantly almost so it's great for quick news browsing but for general internet surfing, it is slow and poor. What can you expect for £129 though to be honest? It's never going to match up to the iPhone, that's for sure.

Overall, it's genuinely a good phone, however you need to remember it isn't new on the market and now there's phones that have surpassed it, for only slightly more money too. It's just a little tricky finding them as nearly all phone companies act solely to reel you in with large contracts as opposed to selling simply the phone itself. I've not tried the San Francisco but I hear it's very good value for money. I've never been a huge fan of Orange or their menus and icons especially, but for such little money, it seems like it's worth a test at least. I'd never pay £400 or whatever on a phone, you're asking to be robbed I'm afraid, even if you can browse the internet quickly.

I have one of these phones and love it

Shadow1. I love where you keep your phone!!

Guys, I'm about to buy some sim-only deals for £10 each from Virgin.
Would this be a good phone or should I look for something else?
Looking to pay about £130ish per phone.

The similar contract deal at Virgin for this phone plus package works out to be a bit more and ties you in to a contract for 18 months. I think it's £25 per month * 18 months = £450 overall for this wildfire plus 600 mins, unlimited text and 1gb data per month.

Can anyone advise if this will need to be unlocked to use with Virgin sims and if there are any places that will do 4 of these unlockings at a dicount?

Thanks.

I think it will be locked to Vodafone, but you can get it unlocked for about £10 here:

Someone posted this on another thread so I don't have any experience of using the site.

This will almost certainly be locked. The Voda branded one I bought from Argos was.

The other deal for this phone posted at Phones4U suggests their PAYG handsets are unlocked. Worth visiting a store if you have one local. Otherwise go for T-Mobile PAYG as Virgin use their network

Thanks but I need to be with Virgin I think because a) I have 5 phones in total for the immediate family and some other relatives are on virgin mobile too so I need the calls to be free between each of them and b) calls from my virgin home line are free to virgin mobiles
Not sure if those are good enough reasons.

I think you've misunderstood me. If you buy T-Mobile PAYG phones they will not need unlocking as Virgin use T-Mobile's network.

Of course if the Phones4U handsets are indeed unlocked then it doesn't matter.
