no all CPW phones are unlocked. you just have to have a valid payg to qualify for the upgrade

Have a rummage - I used a SIM that I had sitting in a drawer.
Alternatively, use the number of a PAYG that a friend / family has had for 6+ months.

Hi all, after one of these as my first venture using a 'smart' phone (this tells you I am not too au fait with all this technology). Will this work if I get one on any network / tariff and stick my Asda sim in? Thanks

Yes the phone would work with your asda sim. However if you do not have a qualifying vodafone or virgin sim then you would not get it for £10. you'd have to pay £34.99 + £20 top up.

which tbh wouldnt be worth it.

They come unlocked so you'll be able to put your Asda sim in but without a qualifying SIM (Virgin / Voda / O2 / T-Mobile / Orange), you won't get it for the price above.
It's over £50 including top-up if you don't qualify - There was a recent deal for this phone SIM-free in Asda for £25 but you'll be lucky to find one now.

Hi BubaMan, yes I missed that recent Asda deal - there were none local if they ever had them.
What I don't understand is that I can buy this from CPW and either click & collect or have it delivered free - if I have it delivered, how do they (anyone) know if I have a qualifying sim or not? Soz for being bit thick - perhaps I shouldn't be let loose with a smart phone anyway. Don't think it will make me any smarter.

They ask for a valid sim number before purchase so you wont get that far without it.

Perhaps this deal - bit more on the money but a better handset than this as 1GB ram?

Nice find, this is why i keep payg sims for all the major providers. This will do my mum and get her away from that horrible blackberry.

My wife has been p.a.y.g. with Vodafone for years, but after typing in her number to buy this upgrade online it came up with the message 'We are sorry, but this number is unfortunately not due for an upgrade right now.' Anyone know why?

has she topped up in last 6 montgs

Yes, within the last two months.

Well try out Google Play Store on the phone that's where all the good stuff is. The beauty of smartphones is that via apps they can do more that you can imagine. I'm always finding new apps and even things I'd never thought of. It depends what you want out of the phone, there's so much they can do, that's my point

Not nearly as good as the y300.........

I picked up one of these recently. They are slow... Very slow. By comparison the lumia 435 I also bought performs brilliantly.

Site seems to be down for me?

I thought T-mobile is EE these days?

On-line this is £9.99 as a Virgin Prepaid Upgrade, Click and Collect possible.
I walked into a CW today and bought one for cash on this basis.
It was £14.99 no haggling.
Decided to go for it anyway as there was stock at that moment and I didn't want to spend another 20 mins online giving my card details to CPW.
Good tip, heated.

For anyone trying for this deal it seems to be more complex than the obvious,i have a virgin sim, and credit, and have made recent calls, but more is required.
I've completely failed to qualify for this offer, and i'm told it's because i haven't been topping on a regular basis.
I had a small amount of credit from 2 years ago,sim was still working fine, topped up a few days back, made some calls, but it wasn't enough for the shop staff,i was still declined.
The offer is still available, just not to me.

Some operators are more picky...
I went for the £15 O2 option with a SIM that I haven't used in a year.

I went for the virgin one, did an online check to see if I qualified and weirdly I did. I make about 4 calls a year ;D but had ~£11 on the sim. Then I bunged a giffgaff sim in it.

Tried using my new Y330 as an MP3 player today, plugged in the usual 3.5mm plug to 3.5mm plug aux audio cable. The sound stays playing from the phone! First time I've had this issue with any phone. Google doesn't seem to know about the problem. I'll try sending the sound via the cable to another car.

That is unusual...
The port is quite stiff - are you sure it's pushed all the way in? (a headphone icon should appear in the top bar)

Sorted now and I think I know why. The Y330 has electronic rather than physical detection of whether the earphone socket is in use. It's expecting the impedance to be low, but my car's AUX like most, has a very high one.
Fixed by using the free Soundabout app from the Play store, selecting the Headphone (rather than Earphone) output for apps gives a decent line out level.

Anyone have it stuck on max brightness (can't turn it down) ?
