There have been some really great deals recently for this decent phone... but almost all of them have been PAYG Upgrades (best one has been £9.99 on Virgin or Vodafone) . Not all of us use PAYG SIMs, or may have upgraded is the last 6 months, making us ineligible for these offers. But now Carphone Warehouse are selling this phone with a new PAYG Vodafone SIM for £19.99 + £10 topup = £29.99

Direct link: carphonewarehouse.com/pho…pay

Available in Black and Purple (Blue is on pre-order)

I believe that all Carphone phones come unlocked. But incase I am wrong, you can get an unlock code off ebay for a measly £1.49 here: ebay.co.uk/itm…816

The £10 credit is useless to me, what do I do - Fear not. There are a few options:
1. You can purchase ringtones for your phone, apps, game downloads and digital currency for Facebook via Direct Carrier Billing, which means that the payment for this crap will come out of your PAYG credit. There's also news that you can buy First Bus tickets using this method. See these articles:
support.vodafone.com.au/art…FAQ
corethree.net/new…tml
2. You can opt into cheaper international calling by texting INTERNATIONAL to 2345 or call 36888 free from your Vodafone mobile. Calls are as cheap as 1.5p per minute to US, Canada, China and India. Full detail here: vodafone.co.uk/exp…htm
3. Donate to your favourite charity. Most charities have a justgiving text word setup. Details here: justgiving.com/en/…ing
4. Gamble to credit on an online casino. Most online casinos allow for Direct Carrier Billing. You might even be eligible for sign up offers at certain casinos.

Looks like it might be good for a bike computer, depending on battery life.

Its just terrible as a phone, has a real nasty cheap screen thats dull.
My sister has one and I am constantly clearing apps from it so she can squeeze another onto the tiny internal memory, I wouldn't mind but she only has about 8 apps in total!
As another poster has said it maybe ok as a bike trip meter or something but then the battery life is also dire too, good luck if your going to go for one.
Cold from me

Most phones would be able to do that.
Get the cheapest.

this is cheap, but perhaps too cheap.

It's cheap, but it's not good.

It's slow and unresponsive, it will frustrate you.

I had trouble even getting it to start a phone call on multiple occasions, where it would freeze and become unresponsive for up to 30 seconds before it suddenly remembered what I had asked it to do. No good in an emergency.

and as a positive this is a great phone for a newbie to a smart phone.

really that bad? the G300 (pretty much single core version of this?) was a great phone. cam is a downgrade. just not sure why it'd be so slow, unless it's the Mali400 or something. 512MB RAM is never going to be that good on 4.x

alternatives around £30 for backup phone, anyone?
Moto E is £50, quite a bit more.

I'm surprised by the negative reviews of the phone on here... Google for reviews of this phone and on most review site its got 4 stars. Can't be that bad! I guess I'll get my hands on it in a day or two and I'll get to decide for myself!

Dropped my S3 last night and killed the screen. In need of a quick, cheap, replacement and this seems to fit the bill. Can anyone confirm what SIM size it takes?

Looks like a micro sim, same as the S3

Thanks, managed to find a specs page that says it takes both

Great phone for the price, I have no trouble using it. You get over 2GB of storage to use so don't know what the guy above is talking about... I also have multiple apps running and can swap between them with no issues. Maybe the people saying its poor are talking about the model Y300
