Huawei Blaze U8510 - IDEOS X3

You might not have heard of them before, or even know how to pronounce their name, but Huawei sure know how to make a decent blower, the first of which is the Huawei Blaze, a mid-range Android piece that offers top-notch functionality without breaking the bank. Running Gingerbread 2.3.5 and sporting Huawei’s rather nice user interface, the Blaze offers both performance and style.

3.2 Megapixel Camera

Adobe Flash 10.1

Bluetooth technology

Document Viewer

Google Maps
All this is packed into a steamlined aluminium alloy unibody measuring just 11mm thick and weighing in at just 110g, in fact, it’s so svelte you’d hardly believe that they managed to shove in a 3.2" HVGA display into the thing. Add to this a 3.2 MP camera, bundled web browser and media player you’ve got yourself quite a media savvy blower.
Sounds good yeah? Well it’s not just about looks though as there’s a 600MHz CPU powering it all along, 256MB of RAM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connectivity and a microSD slot that can take cards up to 16GB. It’s certainly got the media moves as well as the style. The Blaze is sure to set the mid-range Android market on fire.

I think Galaxy Ace is a bit better. 5Mp camera with LED flash, 3.5inch screen and also ARM11 1GHZ processor.

Cool

How does this compare with the SF2/Vivacity ?

Dont forget Quidco £6.50 possibly bringing overall cost to £63.45 if cashback is paid

anyone know if this phone can be unlocked? or if an o2 one would work on the tesco network?

Saw this in-store today - if upgrading with an existing network SIM (and you can use a friend's or a partner's phone number, if they're not planning to change in a while), it's only £49.95 with no top-up necessary.

Original Poster

Read0001 - o2 should be fine with Tesco, as they use same network

Talkmobile &Asda use Vodafone

Giffgaff is o2

I have had the T Mobile Pulse ( HUAWEI U8220 )for 2 years now & I still think its great & have been hard pressed to finding a replacement but as yet havent found anything worthy within a decent price range.

Great deal for £49.95 Hoggydoggy! who hasn't got an active sim?

Had my T Mobile pulse for about a year or so, nice screen and generally a good phone....just bought the T Mobile Vivacity to replace it.
Unsure wether I will sell the pulse, or a galaxy apollo that I also have...decisions decisions

Three isn't listed on the network list for this handset on the Phones4U website but it's bound to be as it's a 3G enabled handset - you could always pop in past your local store and ask them to confirm to play it safe.

I have a O2 pay as you go SIM. ... can i take that to get this phone from store ?

As long as your SIM is active (i.e. regular use & top-ups) then you should be able to get the handset upgrade price - pop in past and see what they say.

I'm pretty sure it's 3G enabled - all Android handsets are, as you can switch them between 3G and 2G.

Incredible phone for the price.

Heat added
but already got OSF and Xperia Play..

Lol Buffalomiller!

Treat yourself its xmas! although Xperia Play is the best of the bunch...

My wife is looking for a cheapish smartphone but she is on an o2 contract, not PAYG.

This phone seems ideal. What would be the cheapest way of getting this on her existing contract and keeping her number?

Thanks OP

You could purchase it with an O2 PAYG SIM and keep that SIM as a spare in the house - you'd have to use it every now and then though to keep it active to make sure O2 doesn't deactivate.

Plus it would be handy to have in the event of another handset upgrade! lol

will this be noticeably better than the san francisco 1?

Wow this is very cheap! Excellent price....look at the review here expertreviews.co.uk/sma…aze

Also video review (in Greek but you can compare size and speed) compared to San Francisco youtube.com/wat…xvM

Good deal for an entry level phone - where did you buy it from, if you don't mind me asking? Thanks

As I don't own either phone I couldn't possibly say but the link below takes you to a tech spec comparison for both the Orange San Francisco and the Huawei Blaze - hope that helps a bit but perhaps you should consider popping into a local store to try one out in person.

Handset Comparison - Orange San Francisco vs. Huawei Blaze aka Huawei U8510 IDEOS X3 - GSMArena

EDIT - One thing that sticks out from the comparison is that both handsets use the same CPU (Qualcomm MSM7227).

Nice android phone for the price, voted hot!

Makes me lol at people spending £££ on an S2 and being stuck on a two year contract X)

I'm sure I've seen 2G android handsets in the past? Though there is no real reason to make them nowadays.

But this phone does appear to be 3G. I have no idea why phones4u specify GPRS but not 3G in the specs - I doubt they have their own version with it cut out.

So whats the crack in regards to this please, i feel this is a steal at the price as i have been looking at Adroid phones for last month and this comes up with better reviews and spec for peanuts compared to the big hitters Samsung, HTC etc.
BUT my missus has a tesco sim only contract how will this work if i want to purchase this for her?? Can i give the sim to my son or will it have to be used in the phone?

Oh and little cheaper at dial a phone, it says in Telegraph that it is available in 3 different colours my missus hates black i know covers can be bought but they dont add to much to look of phone , fussy woman tut...

From the review:
]The Huawei Blaze contains a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor, which puts it on a par with other affordable Android phones such as the HTC Wildfire S.

Sadly, this means it falls beneath the specifications bar for running Adobe's Flash Player, so there's no iPlayer support or Flash gaming available on the Huawei Blaze.]

I've got many SIMs, some on contract and one on PAYG. None of the SIMs or the phones they are used with were bought from Phones4u, would I still be eligible for the offer?

What would people recommend? This or the t-mobile Rapport?

Original Poster

This phone does seem to be 600mhz not 800mhz as the Phones4u blurb says... Think i'll change the description in the post

Not quite as speedy then... very San Fran like... but with android 2.3 already on it

Original Poster

This is marginally better than the Rapport.... bigger screen , 2.3 instead of 2.2 android

The blaze comes with 3 back covers in the box, black, white and pink.
