Cheapest currently in the UK, and from a physical store, so no sting buying it in from overseas importers.

From TechRadar:

Not only is the Huawei Mate 10 Pro the most impressive device we’ve seen from Huawei to date, it’s also one of the most impressive flagships currently on the market, undercutting the competition while offering more in some key areas.

FOR
  • Excellent design
  • Great enthusiast camera
  • Class-leading battery
AGAINST
  • No headphone jack
  • No wireless charging
  • EMUI not for everyone

Seem to be the best deal in the UK atm. geekbuying and dx have these, but starting from ~£720

Great Phone, amazing value for money.

The prices on these so called 'value' flagships phones are getting too high now...
Personally, I don't see the value in saving about 150 quid (when you are spending this much already bear in mind...) to lose out on wireless charging, higher resolution screen, a headphone socket, sd card slot, let alone brand value (or snob value if you like) in comparing this against a note 8...
Not voted, but I don't think these are great value anymore.

Do you think apple and Samsung are responsible for encouraging other manufacturers to put their prices up more and more on each phone release ? I once bought oneplus phones, but definitely no more. I think Huawei are similar.

It's like PSG and Neymar. They've now made the average shit midfielder player worth £65 million .
.... Ruining it for the rest of us !

It's a blend of that and genuine costs caused by shifting the goal posts. For instance, if you wanted to make a Samsung Galaxy S3 now with its quad core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 1280x720 4.8" OLED display you'd find it's super cheap. That's proven by phones from china coming out with those sort of specs around the £100 mark whereas the S3 cost significantly more on release.

The problem is that doesn't satisfy us any more, we need 8GB of RAM, 128GB storage, 4 x 20MP cameras, a 6" 3840x2160 OLED display that can fold in half, 20 top end CPU cores etc. Sure those specs are cheaper now than they were when the S3 came out, but moores law is slow compared to the yearly phone upgrades so this stuff isn't anywhere near as cheap as the S3's hardware was at launch.

Greed probably enters into it somewhere though, the S8's BOM is about $300 whereas it's selling for $720 in the US.

You are correct, better value - i decided to go the Pro as i needed my new phone to be waterproof (well, wanted anyway) and have several pairs of wireless headphones, so loosing the jack was no problem for me. Slightly better/different res screen, and i think a slightly nicer finish. Plus, the Mate 10 is not officially supported in the UK, just the Pro, so you can't really claim any warranties over here on it.

My decision was:
- Waterproof (loose headphone jack)
- Better resolution
- Full UK support & Warranty

The non-pro version is the one that has better resolution (the Pro is 1080p whereas non-pro is QHD) but I think you mean possibly better screen due to it being OLED?

For me the non-pro is the better buy as I much prefer 16:9 aspect ratio to the 18:9 aspect ratio, higher res screen, headphone jack, takes microSD (I don't think the pro does), and is cheaper. It's just annoying its not being officially released in the UK.

Sorry to be a pedant but you did it twice; loose is the opposite to tight. I think you meant lose/losing.

It does seem a bit bold to be charging 700 quid for a Huawei; I'm not saying it can never be worth that price but it seems they got a ways to go to establish their reputation. I think this will be dropped to around £500 before Christmas, the current asking price is a notch too high.

Supply and demand i guess.

Weird how this has got hot on here...

Everyone has own choice however I would like to share Huawei experience with those who like to know after sale service before purchasing phone. Huwaei is not worth of £699 and its big risk in case anything goes wrong with phone. I had purchased nexus 6p manufactured by Huawei from Amazon and got display problems after 6 months. I sent phone to Huawei uk service center and received communication that phone is blacklisted therefore cannot be repaired. I even showed proof of purchase and online certificate that phone is not blacklisted. Phone was working on uk sim without any problem. But they did not even listen and told me that they wont repair phone as its Blacklisted. I received phone back and it had dents of screwdriver everywhere on back. Even side black ribbon filling around screen was taken out. This is even when they did not claim to repair. Luckily amazon refunded my money after i produced letter from Huawei claiming its Blacklisted. I have even heard no chinese company can be trusted for after sale service. I would be ok for upto 150 but never ever buy costly from these cheaters

Was it sold by amazon or another seller?

I've a Nexus 6p by Huawei, it's been a nice phone for 18+ months, as it's OLED or I assume because it's OLED it's got nasty screen burn from the droid OS 3 buttons at the bottom and battery indicator / clock at the top of the screen.

It's a bright colourful screen, I have it at 100% brightness because I enjoy vibrancy, if I want to watch grey I'll tune into EastEnders.

I'd buy another Huawei happily but I'd try and avoid any OLED until burn is fixed.

Looking at the specs I'm struggling to determine what this screen is on the 10?

I should add I've always used screens at 100% brightness and not had an issue before
Edited by: "oliverreed" 6th Nov

Excellent camera on this phone, but they dropped the resolution from the Mate 9 Pro's 1440P to 1080P on this phone. Also all the phone manufacturer's are having a laugh now. £699? Really?

This is way to expensive... But all phones are it seems nowadays. This has to be the plateau surely, as getting above £1000 for a mobile should make us all question our sanity

100% brightness??!! How?? Do you wear sunglasses all the time?

Not sure how this phone is getting heat either?
Looks like a really good phone but can't see how anyone would pay this much. Pretty sure it's not worth £200 more then my S8

I had the same phone. Didn't notice any screen burn issues but I generally had it around 25% and used a dimming app at night as the screen was bright even at nothing.

Regret selling it and getting this s8, I loved my nexus. But just FYI if you still have it, game will give you a crazy trade in price. They paid £200 for mine and the next closest was Cex at 120! And Cex tested it and said it was network locked when it wasn't and tried to fob me off. Went to game, got way more, and no issues.

I believe this has been shown to be a myth - that people cannot tell the difference between 1080p and higher panels on a small screen. When moving from a QHD phone (LG3) to my current phone (Lenovo P2) I certainly noticed a distinctive difference in sharpness. Phones are held much closer to the face, so you cannot apply the same rules as TVs where people say that 4k tv's are not noticeable unless they are huge.

Also, I believe it has been shown that QHD displays do not draw much more power than 1080p displays, and this has also been shown by people testing by downscaling resolutions on phones.

Overall, if I was paying 700 for a phone, I would definitely want the best available resolution

Huawei Mate 10 Pro has much superior AMOLED display as compare to mate 10 lcd pannel. Screen resolution is not everything because look at latest apple iphones and their pixel density ..Mate 10 and mate 10 pro have same battery capacity(4000mAh) but here is difference

The Mate 10 Pro offers similar talk and standby times to the Mate 10, but when the screen gets involved the numbers go up. The Mate 10 Pro offers 3 more hours of web browsing and 5 more hours of video playback over the Mate 10's scores. Everything else being the same, the Pro's lower-res AMOLED screen is making the right sort of difference compared to the Mate 10.

gsmarena.com/hua…php

The Kirin 970 finally brings a mighty and cutting-edge GPU - Mali-G72MP12, a massive upgrade over the previous generation. Unlike the Mate 10, the 10 Pro has a lower-res 1080p screen (it's actually 1080 x 2160) so its GPU performance has to be better than any other Mate so far. And the benchmark tests reveal exactly - the Mate 10 Pro is beating all Android smartphones but the Xperia XZ1 when it comes to onscreen graphics.

The mate 10 pro has an OLED screen, not AMOLED. Also, OLED is more battery efficient than LCD, so that explains why the mate 10 pro may have been on-screen battery life. We were discussing 1080p vs QHD - LCD vs OLED is a different matter. My point is that QHD doesn't really draw much more power than 1080p, and people can tell the difference between them, thus disagreeing with your points.

I agree that resolution isn't everything when it comes to screens, and OLEDs are thought to be superior than LCD. But given the burn in issues (and you only have to look at the fiasco that is ocurring with the pixel 2's OLED screen) I'm not sure I'd want to invest in a OLED screen for the long-term just yet

The Mate 10 Pro features a 6" FullView AMOLED display of 1080 x 2160px resolution and with HDR10 support. The resolution is inferior to the Quad HD screens of the Mate 10 and Mate 9 Pro but the 402ppi isn't bad by any means.

The screen of the Mate 10 Pro, just like the Mate 10's, has two modes - Normal and Vivid. Those two settings offer different levels of brightness and color accuracy.

Normal allows for 422 nits of maximum brightness and the screen won't go beyond that. The AMOLED's blacks and contrast are top notch. The color accuracy is among the best we've measured with an average deltaE of 1.6 and maximum deviation of 3.

Android authority, techardar and everywhere else I've seen so far say OLED. Your GSM arena link is the first time I've seen AMOLED mentioned. GSM arena are usually reliable, although given that most sources say OLED, they may be wrong here? Its either them who's wrong, or other publications.

I dont want to get in this debate of OLED vs AMOLED but we should use common sense here. Pro model is more expensive and superior and Engineers of Huawei are not stupid to charge more for Pro version while putting inferior display panel in mate 10 pro as compare to regular mate 10.

Apple iphone 8 is 4.7" has 750 x 1334px resolution with just 326ppi but still its excellent display so screen resolution dont determine the quality of display . I still stand to what i said and i will prefer the display of mate 10 pro over mate 10 and if someone just care about screen resolution then they should get cheaper version .

Cold.. Not Apple

You gotta be mental to pay for a phone that's just been released, same goes for a new TV. And new pc and so on.
