Not a Mate 20 Pro, an X, and I did a few updates - security patch 9th June 2019.
38113526-zWnFm.jpgAlso, worth bearing in mind (as I nearly bought the 20 Pro) - the Pro uses the USB-C port as one speaker (I'd find that annoying with the cable inserted, personally) and doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack (though they're becoming rarer and rarer).

I actually also a prefer a flat screen, I suspect curved screens are slippier and more susceptible to breakage (can't say for sure, though) and think they're just a fad. As well as losing a bit of screen real estate. But that's just personal opinion.

Have a S8 I find the curved screen reduces the width slightly makes it easier to hold, and not slippy at all.
One of the best phones out there, good deal, heat added 🔥🔥🔥
This is quite an average price though.... Great phone yes, but still £500
Best phone I've ever used. Superb camera. Never give up you battery and feels amazing in the hand (ladies)... Buy it!!

Voted hot for Price OP, but I'd agree with this comment.
I would have found the X too big for my liking, but anyone considering a similar cheaper alternative, I'd go for the Honor Veiw 20. You get the same processor, IMO the punch hole front camera looks far better (I know the Face ID is more secure on this, but the Fingerprint is more secure that Face ID and far quicker on Honor), Headphone jack, but you lose the Amoled screen.
Phones are getting updates. I'm on the Mate 20 X and took a large update bumping up to Android 9.1 from 9.0 a couple of weeks back.

I've also got my eye on xda developers... Waiting to unlock the bootloader and possibke potential for a custom rom...

The X is better if you don't care for onscreen finger print, wireless charging...

Yeah, I prefer the teardrop notch on the X - the Pro has more sophisticated 3D face recognition that the X lacks which is why the notches are different (don't use it anyway - though reviews say that, and the in-screen fingerprint scanner, are both flakey). The X's fingerprint scanner is on the back - don't use that either!

I was told that even though, on paper, the cameras are the same, the Pro has some depth sensor on the front-facing camera. I've read/watched loads of reviews now and haven't seen this mentioned.

As I had an Axon 7 I wanted something with great speakers and headphone capability - it's a shame to put my 3.5mm headphones out to pasture, but I do use Bluetooth more nowadays. And what about taking a call on the X with it pressed against your ear and feeling like Dom Joly ? Haven't tried that yet!

I think the headphone output is a *bit* quieter than the Axon 7 and I'd like it bumped up a bit - I don't use in-ears, I prefer over-ear headphones.

I've read Honor phones don't get as regular updates as Huawei, but will have to look at a few reviews of the View 20.

PS: Probably a no-brainer but I had to tweak my APN settings as well. Lost my temper at the stupid comments on the GiffGaff forums either telling me to contact an Agent, asking me if I was phoning an international number (I stated clearly I was phoning EE and it wouldn't connect), how to check my Goodybag (I said I had 14 days left and unlimited calls - I've been with them 8 years). Their forums are still a nightmare, full of people just collecting points and telling you stuff you've said already.

From Android 8.1 onwards, apparently, you can't Edit APN settings any more, they were requested to be locked down - as mentioned on xda-developers - you have to create a New APN.

I answered my own question, ultimately, and I'm pretty sure I did that the last time I was on there. Annoyance is sometimes a good motivator.

Said this here about the Mate 20 X, but it applies to the Mate 20 Pro as well.

..you can use two SIMs or one SIM/Nano NM Memory card (Huawei proprietary memory card - looking for Deals on those - Amazon have the 128GB for £45-odd at the moment).

Ie, one side says SIM 1, flip it over and the other side is SIM 2 or NM Card.

Depth sensor needed for 3D face rec

That makes sense, I was told it was for the selfie camera (not that I use either, really).

Boyf *tries* to use the face recognition software on his (Axon 7 Mini). When he's hungover or his beard is overgrown, or even just a rough night/morning - it doesn't recognise him

Some selfie cameras have it only for portrait mode, in order to blur background

M20P's notch also houses infra-red sensor, for face rec in the dark - pretty awesome, yet Apple's system may be even better

I'm used only to 2D face rec/iris scanner, some catch-up to do

Used to love iPhones now I will be switching to Samsung’s iPhone has nothing to offer just over priced for things Samsung and other companies has done 2 years ago.

I wouldn't buy anything past the p30 Pro however.
