Hi,

I just bought Huawei mate 20 pro for 202 instore (Birmingham / Bullring).

The same deal was also available in other o2 stores but availability of this handset is very limited. There was only 1 left at Birmingham when i bought it. Nearest one that is available to me was Nuneaton.

You just need to negotiate a bit, and they will give 50 pound off the handset price if you decide to take 60GB data plan with it.

The regular web price is 252 pounds on O2 refresh, but if you get the 60GB plan instore then handset price can be discounted further and it will bring it down to 202. Once you get the handset then cancel the data plan within 14 day cooling period. I will be paying the total cost of the handset and will get off the airtime contract tomorrow

Note: I tried to get in touch with O2 Customer service (On Phone & Webchat) to get the same discount but they denied it. It is exclusive instore.

See attached receipt.

35x5.62 = 196.7
Final Payment = 5.30
Total = 202 Pounds

Dangerous, more to it as you have to apply for the contract and then …Dangerous, more to it as you have to apply for the contract and then cancel it, these O2 refresh deals will come home to roost for those who take them out i strongly suspect....I would advise against them all TBH

I'm unsure why you make it sound dramatic, its not dangerous, it is as clear cut as you say, take the contract, cancel it, cheap phone

Yes it's a credit check, yes it "affects" your credit file as others often ask, but if your not a prolific credit checker and you have good credit, the "affect" is irrelevant, the deal the other day suited me just fine and I got a bargain phone out of it

Does this really warrant a new thread? There's a huge thread from last week about the Mate 20 Pro which includes people getting various discounts.

Can you get quidco if you will order online. Would be this same deal without searching for a phone.
Have they run out of the £100 off codes in store? I thought this is what you get when getting the phone so the total price is £152..
Too late I’ve already paid £152

Did you pay 152 in store or online?

I might head down see what they can do, do you have to ask for a voucher?
How does the £100 (or £50) off work? If you are only suppose to be paying £6.45 (phone) + £35.00 (airtime).

Does it go as a credit on your account, so when you pay the price of the phone off, instead of paying 36 x £6.45, you end up paying less as there is a credit balance sitting on your account?

Do you pay the phone off in full in the shop when you take out the contract?

Seriously looking to do this but want to make sure I know what I am doing before going to the store.

I was told those £100/£50 codes were only valid if you paid for the full cost of the phone up-front at order.

I wouldn't mind doin that for 50/100 discount
Ive done 02 refresh deals twice. And everytime they cock up the cancellation, then keep sending letters saying I owe the remainder of contract.

I havent paid, but no doubt credit score is bollocks now

I would be surprised if there's any negative impact at all, if anything for someone with a low credit score this could pull them up a bit because you're not 'cancelling' the contract, you're settling it early. This is what it looks like on your credit score.

I've had 10 O2 refresh contracts since they started them, and I haven't seen a drop after any of them.

Bear in mind, this isn't financial advice, I can't predict the impact on anyone else's credit score and each company that does a credit check will use this information in their own way.

The Live chat on the website was offering up to £50 two weeks back. I'd be going for this if I hadn't just done two of these.
Just ask them if they can knock anything off the price if you pay for the device upfront.
I got £100 off in store if get the highest bundle, which comes down to £110 then you just pay off the £42 the next day.

Exactly this is still running as far as I was aware. The £50 was offered to some people but most would either be offered the full £100 off in store or nothing. Some stores openly were just offloading phones and even advising you get the phone for £152 just call up and pay them off/cancel contract.
Damn I paid £252 last week in full. Who cares, amazing phone

Only affects your credit file if actually applying for credit i.e paying off phone over period of time. If paying off in full, no impact on credit score as no credit taken

Not sure about that as you are applying for a 30 day rolling contract at the same time. Think they're may be a credit check involved for the airtime contract part.

There is always 1 single credit check. It applies to both handset and airtime. It doesnt matter if you pay the cost of the handset upfront, it still has to go through the credit check because o2 refresh are two agreements.

Strange. The Refresh deal 3 weeks back on the P30 Pro, everyone was reporting the exact opposite. I guess they might have changed their promotion in that time then.

I did similar but instead of paying 110 in store I paid nothing, so my agreement was for the 152 rather than 42 which I cleared in full over the phone the day after

Got it for £152 'like new' via the O2 website. Not quite the same storming deal...but, good enough for me

This is correct. I enquired at o2 Nottingham a couple of hours ago. They offered 50 quid off if I took the top plan or 100 quid if taking another product, such as a mobile hotspot.

I am thinking it over but the phone is bigger than I expected it to be compared to my current Galaxy S8. I'm erring towards sticking with the Galaxy S8 despite its screen being cracked. I am not sure I can get on with the size of the Mate 20 Pro.

I moved from s8 plus to this one and I find it bit smaller but very responsive. I m using multi lingual keyboard even and it works like a charm.
Thanks for posting, and for the comments.

Just bought 2 for £152 each. Needed to sign up for 2x £60 per month contract, and they took the £100 per phone off, so I can cancel airtime and pay off phones at £152 each tomorrow.

Absolute bargain for brilliant phones!

It's definitely faster than the Galaxy S8, having had a play on it in the shop. I would have bought it if it was smaller and didn't have a curved display!
