Update 2
Update - back in stock and available to order, cashback offer ends 26th March
Make sure you keep the phone activated for 15 days, then cancel your airtime plan, and request a refund on your first bill

consumer.huaweipromo.co.uk/gb/en/pages/huaweicashback2020/home

Method

1. Follow link in switchy's deal thank @razo

2. Scroll down to where it says "pay for your device in full". Try not to get distracted by headache. Click on "see our plans". Unless you actually want a new contract, choose the one that says 5gb, If you can't see that option, look harder, it's right in front of you.

3. Do you have a PAC? If so, why? You're doing it wrong. If not, click on "I don't have a PAC". Make more coffee.

4. Await delivery.

5. If you want to move your existing SIM and number and contract to the new phone, use the little pin, take out the SIM. And put it in new phone. Nothing to do with PAC.
6. Find (or order) an unused SIM from another network (e.g. three because that's easy).

7. Put the o2 SIM that you got with the phone, in the phone, and text STAC to 75075. Wait for the code and write it down.

8. Go on three's website and fill in the form to use the STAC (or if a SIM from any other network then maybe have to ring them to use STAC).

9. Wait 1-2 days for the STAC to process and check that the o2 SIM card no longer gets a signal. If it still does, the STAC process went wrong, curse a lot, and phone O2 to cancel. The first person you speak to will be wrong. Phone again until you get someone who understands their own terms and conditions. Or, try the STAC process again.

10. The first month's bill from O2 will come out of your account. Don't panic. DONT WHATEVER YOU DO CANCEL YOUR DIRECT DEBIT.

11. After a month, go on web chat with O2 and say you want a refund of the credit on your bill.

Some replies to the comments:

Cashback is eligible for up to 5 personal claims per individual and 10 per business customer but business customer claims must have been bought from a business seller like O2 Business.

I don't think we need to keep the sim 15 days. You are cancelling the airtime but the purchase of the handset at £507 is still valid. When you claim the cashback you send the proof of purchase (invoice) and submit the IMEI number. The company that administers the promotion would have no way of validating if the SIM has been cancelled.

I have done a few O2 Refresh deals. Just get a STAC code and use it against your current SIM account. The number won't transfer but it will cancel right away. So if you do this a couple days after the phone arrives you will be liable for a few days line rental at most. As others have said DO NOT CANCEL the DD. If something goes wrong better to have a second month come out than damage your credit file but on the past 3 times it cancelled ok for me. Once cancelled a credit will go back on your account. You can either go on O2 chat or I think an O2 shop can process the refund too but I have always done it via chat.

So to summarise...no need to cancel by phone, use a STAC code. Speak to chat to get the refund of remaining line rental. Even if you don't do that a Mate 20 X 5G for £332 is AMAZING! Thanks for posting!

Now, for those of you in Edinburgh too...we will have to mee tup in Gorebridge to test Three 5G, how random!

Wow... OMG... thats insane battery
Just realized it's the 5g model. Burn baby burn
Omg! I love my Mate 20 X but with Three launching 5G soon I'm very interested in this...!

So the 5G has a smaller battery. Does it have the NanoSD slot too? I've just spend £82 on a NanoSD card.

Why is the IMEI important? Will this work with like new models or do they have to be brand new?

Thanks
Mucho Heat 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I know your 'idiot proof' guide says scroll down to 1gb but the lowest it goes down to is 5gb data. Im looking on android not PC..

I need to edit that, that was from an earlier post
Is it 5GB?
trex28/02/2020 11:25

Does the IMEI tell them date of purchase?

No, your invoice does

Excellent question. Please see answer below:
"Consumers who cancel their purchase or return their Qualifying Product within 14 days of date of purchase will not be eligible to claim"

Therefore, need to keep the plan for at least 14 days.

Does that mean that anyone ordering will end up paying about 2 months airtime? The first month for going past 14 days and then 30 days notice?

Also, I cannot see a 1Gb plan?
MrSwitch28/02/2020 11:11

That's what o2 T&c says

Bit confused

Thank you: sorry, I may be being a bit slow. To ensure the cashback is not endangered, when should one go through the airtime cancel process? Or the STAC route?

It does have nano slot though has greater storage anyway. You lose the headphone socket and as you saw some battery (which will be doubly noticeable as 5g will likely use more too)
so this works out approx £300 after the cashback?

if so wow that's a bargain

Thanks,

I run my audio through a DAC Cyruskey so that's OK. I've gone for it. Can have a play with Three 5G when it launches and sell it on if prefer non 5G.
