Well, a new operating system will be great to stop the duopoly of the 2 American firms. My humble opinion of course

Some of the pathetic comments is unreal, some folk need to ask, educate, and be nice instead off posting lines that a teenage would post not a grown adult.

Maybe but I'd rather take the already very good camera of the P30 Pro and have a phone that isn't neutered by not having proper Google support. Therefore, P30 is a better choice.

With android everything possible. Huawei even letting people unlock their bootloader now. You can download and flash roms yourself.

Can't unlock bootloader on Huawei
Great price... But no warranty means no buy.
I'm not buying one, but that is a really sweet looking phone.

Don't break the screen though. I bet a replacement would be a fortune.
Hot just for the price
anyone know how long it will take to get here? over a month?
I think they’re a great phone. Just a real pitty about Play Store. You need to be prepared to accept Play store may not work if you buy one of these.
Librem 5 is a phone built on PureOS, a fully free, ethical and open-source operating system that is not based on Android or iOS. Will it work?

Is that a false information ? Also what do you think of installing google play on it ? any drawbacks to it ?

I don’t get that ? I mean many people get these new Chinese flagship phones and install google play on it with no issues , you can check YouTube reviews too . It works perfectly
Just so we're clear -

Contrary to what was said earlier you cannot unlock the bootloader and Huawei have no plans to let you unlock the bootloader.

You'll be lucky to get Google Play on this; Huawei and Google are shutting down any means to install Play Services.

There are also no third party ways to unlock the bootloader and unlock code resellers are being cutoff by Huawei. Prices for unlock codes were already sky high but you can no longer get them.

Just be aware you may well be shelling over flagship money for a phone that might possibly be cut off from much of the Android eco-system throughout its life. A lot of apps rely on Play Services.

There are zero merits to not having Play Services; Google wont be spying on you anymore but Huawei's background services still "phone home" - to what extent no one actually knows.

600 pounds for this phone!
Why?
I has no support and just a Chinese spying kit

I would buy it for 60 quids just for its camera
Can't even get Google services!

Huawei would come and beg you to buy it. Actually they would gift you one but you would say no cos they are rubbish phone makers.

Bear in mind also that even if they started to allow people to unlock the bootloader, the Huawei modding community is dead in the water.
Better off with P30 Pro

I have seen on xda forums not too sure if it is true for 100% though

I’m a daily user of that site (joined in 2005), and a contributor to various Huawei threads. I’ve never seen such a post so I’d appreciate a link. It would be big news if Huawei had said that IMHO and wouldn’t be confined to a dev site. As far as I was aware Huawei had rebuked any claims they’d be unlocking bootloaders.

That’s a DXOmark score: you might as well link to a site with cute panda GIFs for all the credibility those clowns have.

P30 would be potentially a better choice anyway as its curved edges are less dopey and it doesn’t have utterly idiotic virtual volume keys. Even the P30 Pro curves annoy me, so the Mate would drive me potty, and for what? A *marginally* improved camera and a faster chipset.
that’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all day how is Google going to plan to do that? ever heard of rooting?

Mobile bank insurance these days covers the warranty for life time on the phone, A replacement phone cost £100 in excess or £50 for a repair after that you have 12 months warranty

Here’s another sheep That believes everything he/she reads. there’s hundreds of tutorial videos online that show you how to install google play
DryUrEyesMate27/10/2019 23:56

You’re not very Tech literate are you?(lol)

With no official Google support, limited security patches, no access to play store, no access to bootloader and all the Huawei bloatware and backdoors, this phone is a hard pass.

It is like a body builder, has all hardware and flashy look, but lack real substance.
Wow did you just really just say that(lol) you’re actually believing the media and governments(confused) only if you really knew the truth.
