You could get the Lenovo S540 with 2k screen for less with student discount or online codes. That has a slightly better 3550h CPU and a better battery.

Or if you have student discount you could get the HP Envy X360 for £719 with the new Ryzen 4500u which smokes all Intel's offering right up to 10th gen i7-10357G. Downside 1080p screen

This isn't a bad laptop but the 3500u is showing signs of age now and it's a clear out sale of these for the new 4000 series chips

It just depends what you want.

From what I've read the Ryzen 5 processor is maybe a little bit better, but there is no dedicated graphics card. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks @macsoul99

I agree, the matebook looks abit on the old scale but looks aesthetically pleasing and personally I'd want a 13" laptop - I may have to wait until more laptops take on the Ryzen 4500u and 2k screen (can't go back to 1080p these days).

Hopefully your input helps others too!

To be fair, the laptop seems alright, the 3500U isn't exactly the best, however for this sort of design I'm not sure that the competition can really take it on regards to that.

And whilst it isn't better than the MX250, it'll use less power than it, and the fact is that an MX250 is a dedicated chip, so you get what you pay for in that respect
i am confused with this deal, the link takes me to the 2019 version (which is not a pre order) and its for £800, am i missing something?

If you took the time to read down to just the second comment you would find this has already been addressed.
Really nice, but seems a bit odd to release a new device with a 3000 series processor.

That's the 2019 model, the new 2020 has an option of 16GB. I guess that's why is so cheap. They are getting rid of the old components.

But this is meant to be a new device, the introduction of AMD processors in their lineup.
So weird, and no option to upgrade to 16GB is such a shame.
Dolby Atmos from the laptop speakers... I hope it won’t blow the roof off with that amount of sound and SPL.

Never thought Atmos meant "really loud". Does it?
Guys, sow what's the verdict on this one?
For office work, documents, web, youtube and photo editing. Buy or no buy?

Of course not but how can you emulate 9 decent positioned speakers in a thin body. Not even larger soundbars are able to project and reflect sound decent enough even with room calibration.

For the price, its good, i say buy
Could someone who knows a bit more than me on this things advise how exactly this compares to the new 2020 i5 model, apart from the obvious 256/512gb, how do the cpus and on board graphics compare?

This is currently £300 cheaper so seems a steal to me.

I am well aware what Atmos is and know about spatially-coded substreams and their emulation on headphones and built-in speakers. I find it amusing that you get hang up on my comment which was meant as a joke. Spatial coding has been around for years but marketing works wonders on some.
I'm personally still debating - even as an aesthetic laptop it looks good and at a good price range. I had the X Pro - fan was annoyingly loud though!

So now it's a joke
Would it be worth the extra over the Honor or bite on it? Or what else is avabile around the £500 mark in the laptop world?
Thinking about biting the bullet on this. I have been looking at the matebook 13 with dedicated graphics. However, I don't think ultrabook and light gaming works is where it should be at yet.

I have a console so might just get this for web-browsing and university work. It's very stylish since its not made of plastic, very good screen size with the the lack of bezels and 2k screen.

Same boat mate. I usually to like to 'future proof' but this might actually be good enough... Would've like 16gb though.
