Do not buy surface laptops, they are unrepairable. Cpu, ram, ssd are soldered to motherboard, so You can't replace or expande them. To battery they used a glue. In warranty time they give You new one, after this time You can put laptop to bin if something happen.

Everything apart from the SSD is soldered on the Matebook X Pro too.. But hey, at least the battery doesn't require a heatgun (Hairdryer) to remove eh? You do, however, need to remove the entire heatsink to replace the SSD.
So in terms of upgradibility I guess it scores a 2/10 to the surfaces 1/10..
Scores are arbitary. Most ultrabooks are pretty poor when it comes to upgradibility.

Personally if you're going to splash out this sort of money on an Ultrabook you may as well go the whole hog and get the i7 / MX150 variant.. I'd at least want to play some casual / indi games on something which cost more than a full fledge gaming laptop

Don't really agree - gaming performance is still awful on the MX150 version, so why spend hundreds extra for it? Gamers should definitely look elsewhere though (or consider a Thunderbolt GPU enclosure).

Good discount but suggest check the reviews. Like most high-end laptops there's pros and cons, it's not perfect. Likely discount is due to updated 2019 model.

Great laptop
maybe apple could try copying the keyboard from this, instead of the toy keyboard them make on the mac pro
I have been going through reviews and it seems a fair bit of people like it and quite a number r moving from Mac.
Is this the new model for 2019 or the previous one?
I rather buy a Macbook or Surface at this price as much better support . If it was £300, it would have been OK. Get at least 16gb ram and i7 at this price as these thin laptops cannot be upgraded easily.

Been looking to get this laptop for a while been waiting for it to go down as the 2019 version gets released. I would prefer to buy from Currys because if something goes wrong I have the comfort of taking it into store, as Huawei don't really have any stores and AO is online. Does anyone know/have experience with AO when it comes to returns for faulty laptops etc, and can anyone recommend a good laptop insurance, thanks

Ultrabooks still have their place though, even for gamers. An MX150 is still leagues above intels integrated graphics (even if it can't hold a candle to a "real" gpu)
While I can agree spending hundreds extra may seem like a false economy for a low-end gpu but you're already massively overspending if you're considering this ultrabook. Kinda like the optional extras at the dealership when purchasing a new car.
Extra £200 gets you the i7 with the 512 GB SSD - took the plunge and ordered it. I get what you mean in terms of comparison to a gaming laptop, but if you are in the market for an ultrabook (i.e. something light and portable with a semi-decent spec) it's a good bit cheaper than any other comparable Windows ultrabook or the MacBooks.

If the hardware is what you want, do what I do with every new laptop; reinstall a fresh Windows to wipe out the manufacturers bloat. Then just go to the manufacturers website and download the drivers.

I know it's more work but at the end of the day, you've got a machine that is bloat free, (excluding Windows 10 bloat,) and you are sure there aren't any backdoors.
I have one of these, the 8Gb i5 version. It is stunning, the best screen (3:2 aspect great for code editing and web pages), really long battery life, great sound. Only negatives are the webcam is poor (I video call using my phone so doesn't bother me) and.. well that's it really.

Aah bravo, exactly what I wanted to hear, I am doing HTML, Matlab and Mathematica stuff
Price updated from £1099 to £1049 and the £200 cashback stands.
Why expired?

Hey Gary - Have you received it yet? Just wondered what you thought of it - I'm considering doing the same and getting one for client presentations and a spot of light CAD work when I'm away from my workstation...

Yep got it on Wednesday (after ordering on Easter Monday). Overall it's excellent - battery life is great, been using it with LogMeIn to my work PC and it lasted for 7 hours without plugging in. Screen quality is excellent. Fan is a bit noisy when playing games (talking Civ 5 so nothing major) but overall very impressed. Apart from the webcam - right up your nose (use your phone instead for video calls!). Keyboard is cracking and comes with a USB-C dongle to plug your HDMI or old school VGA in to. Just need to send the cashback email back to them.

Biggest gripe is the flimsy cardboard box AO had put the laptop in. Delivered to Spar and it had either split open or been ripped open on the way. No damage to the laptop but you could see / reach straight into it - not great considering it's a £1,300 laptop. Informed AO, apologised, but not much for them do to do really.

Great stuff
Just ordered one myself - went for the i5 version. I am very encouraged by how I've heard how well Ubuntu runs on this. For the people who are irrationally paranoid about Huawei, why do they not just run Linux on it instead?

Thanks Gary
Great deal, ordered mine and had it for a week - went for the i7 as I do like to dabble in some low end steam games from time to time on my travels. I'm still waiting for the £200 cashback from AO.com though. The best thing about this laptop is the 13.9 inch 3:2 aspect screen which is just right for reading two PDF or magazine pages side by side (in full screen). My main complaints are that it does get warm and the fans do get loud when playing games. It's silent and cool at other times. My essential accessory is a case (got the 12.5" kizuna one with a handle off amazon which I'm very happy with) and I'm just looking to add a reliable bluetooth mouse.
Anyone who got the 256gb model how much hard drive space is actually free?
Ive just taken the plunge on the i7 512gb model. fingers crossed its a solid laptop!

I recieved an email from ao.comtitled 'Important information about your order' a few minutes after delivery this morning, and had to enable 'show pictures' to see the banner placed half way through the email that said 'Claim your cashback'. Might be worth going back and looking for this as it needs to be completed within 21 days!

I just received an email saying my cashback has been processed and I should receive it in the next 5 days
AO are shipping me a replacement next day, and another courier to come collect this one with the bent screen. Glad i did that, as this evening the sound card has completly died. Have tried everything sort of a factory reset, but nothing, device wont start no matter what drivers. seems like I got a duff, but AO seem good so far.

me too, will update when I actually get it. I just installed some games and my hard drive was nearly full. Turns out huawei have partitioned the drive in a strange way so the main files are on a small 100gb partition - look for the partition programme from the search bar and you can delete the D drive and merge the C and D drives together (use the extend function) - some people say it helps the system run a lot better too.
Is the Dell XPS a better unit?
I’ve had the 16gb mx150 version of this for a while and love it. Great ultrabook. You can hackintosh it to run MacOS if you so wish. There are guides on reddit. Its not super straight forward but easier than other hackintoshes out there.

Its 100% functional other than the wifi (as with many hackintoshes with soldered down wifi cards) but I have a tiny 5mm usb dongle as a workaround.

For me personally, this is the Macbook Pro apple never made. Great screen, great keyboard, great trackpad, actual port selection.
