Nice spot @nomen60 Welcome to deal posting. Heat

I'm looking for a cheap 10" tablet for my Mother to use as a media viewer - Netflix and movies/series stored locally. She's using a Nook HD+ (running CM12) that I bought for her a few years ago. It's got an awesome display but is playing up.

I'm happy to buy used, so if anyone can suggest something with a good display, 2gb RAM and ideally (not a deal breaker) HDMI out that I could pick up for around £100, I'd be forever grateful. Okay, maybe not forever

Seems like a nice tablet. I wonder how the battery life and speakers are? Would be great to have a tablet which didn't need an external speaker to be able to hear properly while watching iPlayer....

Argos eBay deals, just last week l got a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10" 2016 for £109.98, grade b only a very small scratch on screen

I wondered how one would even quantify 'unlimited performance' too

Seems stuck on Android 5.1, and I guess with that chipset it'll get little third party support. Ah well, seems ok apart from that!

I've got this, think its excellent. Paid £159. Really loud. Great battery life. Faster than my previous tablet Note 2014 10". It does what you need a tablet to do. Only downside IPS screen doesnt go quite as bright as I would like.

I've taken a risk on this tablet from Gearbest (~£170):

This is exactly why it's worth paying the extra for an iPad. I'm an Android phone man, so went through a dozen or so Android tabs but none hit the spot. After wasting my time and a reasonable amount of money, I accepted that iPad is THE tablet.

Horses for courses. I found the ipad overpriced boring and a bit "meh"...

Nexus 10 would suit if you are okay with second hand

Ditto. Wife has an iPad Mini 4 and it's a great little thing, sadly the OS (iOS) just doesn't work for me.

It's getting a tad long in the tooth, if I'm right then the Nexus 10 came out in 2012? Also, it hasn't got a micro sd slot (something I forgot to mention) which is handy when it comes to offline storage (being able to download certain Netflix shows is dead handy).

Oldie but goodie. Can be updated to Android 7.1.
Has everything else you mentioned - you can always get a usb thumbdrive??

If it's not underclocked, it could be said to be unlimited as they haven't limited it

Heat for the deal btw - tablets don't have a place in my technical menagerie but if they did, this would be there

A 6660 mAh battery would last up to 13hrs and the speakers are quality, from Harman Kardon.

"The Huawei MediaPad M2 10’s speakers are the only items clearly stamped with another brand. Harman Kardon units, and there are four in total; two on the top edge and two on the bottom.
Note that they don’t simply pump out either side of the stereo feed. Two of the speakers are tuned for bass, the other two for treble. This is quite a smart idea, and a good way to avoid the distortion that can occur when a small driver is pushed to its limits." Trusted reviews

It's for my Mother who's not overly techy - I need something I can just set up and leave her to it, so an sd slot is handy but not a deal breaker - I'll compare prices with some of the Samsung Tablets mentioned

The new Amazon fire HD 10 is a better option imo.

I really would not recommend the Nexus 10. Playing media kills the battery. Plug it in, watch a video and the battery goes down.

I've got this, I liked it so much I got the M2 premium with the pen also, it's good for watching video, good sound, I also edit websites using it and it's just about big enough for that too.
