A good Android tablet. Reasonable price given the competition ... but only because there is hardly any competition. I bought mine almost a year and a half ago for £230 so its disappointing that £190 is still the lowest this ever gets (at least on Amazon)

Is this still plagued by not being able to move apps etc to SD card ?
Excellent tablet and price and still runs fast and smooth approx 18 months later.

Great screen and speakers.

As is always said, that's an Android thing nothing to do with the tablet.
This or the galaxy tab s5e?

This is controlled by google so is the same as every android device and nothing new.
I see the 8" samsung tab A is £139 or £169 for the 10.1" how do these compare? I would imagine they're about the same, no?

your S9 lets you move a part of the app to SD not the app itself same as the Huawei and every other android for me its not worth doing unless you need the space as it makes no difference at all.

Nope, the M5s are high end tablets, the Tab A is on a par with the much cheaper M5 Lite.

If that were the case there wouldn't be Internal to SD apps on Android
Can anyone with this tablet confirm it now has the license to stream 1080 on Netflix and Amazon.

It's the Huawei operating system that prevents apps being moved to the sd card. Other Android tablets allow you to do this, even if it's only part of the app. Still a cracking tablet though.

Think I read somewhere Huawei just didn't see the point in it as you didn't save much space but I didn't know you couldn't move anything but like I said its shouldn't be a deal breaker on this tablet, yes cracking deal and I might get it.
Anything LTE/4G around this price point?

Nope - that's fixed.
Apps can now be stored on SD Card.

Yes - I stream both @1080
Also Netflix sees SD card as fixed memory so 256gb SD card works great. Just be sure to select an A1 or A2 SD card for longevity.

You missed the BT shop deal last year - they had LTE for £170

I also missed out by a couple of days.
I'm on my second unit as I dropped first in the bath!!

I can confirm that the M5 Mate are not waterproof!!

Apart from that I'm very pleased with the overall performance.

Note that these will not receive any further Android updates - Android 9 is the last update apart from security patches.
Do these still have a locked bootloader with no way to unlock? If so then I'd say the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is a better bet and a lot cheaper. I'm using mine with Android 10 right now and it's amazing.

I have the mipad4 got it last year after a toss up between this and the mipad4. Mipad 4 is a great tablet still very fast and does everything I need.

Got it from eBay via a Chinese seller but still on Android 9, how can I manually update to 10?
Can I ask why you need to unlock the boot loader? What does that enable you to do that you couldn’t before? Thanks

Got one use it daily, mostly for browsing email and a couple of games.
Would definitely buy again as I don't think there is anything as good in this price range still.

Yeah I bought a Freer x9 last year when it was £150.. The spec ain't too amazing but I mean it was the best I could get at that time without spending a bombshell! Sadly this M5 hasn't come down to my tablet budget

It allows you to replace the operating system with a different one. As long as you're happy with Android 9, you don't need to.
I have 2 of these, they're absolutely brilliant for my needs (watching films on the train/plane, reading the news /websites, streaming audio to my Bluetooth headphones to save my phone's battery).

The device feels very high quality, the screen is the best LCD I've ever seen. It performs well and the software is smooth and since Android 9, EMUI is fine. Gets monthly security updates.

The only downside is that it does a poor job of using WiFi and Bluetooth simultaneously because they share the same aerial. So I watch pre-downloaded movies or listen to pre-downloaded music via Bluetooth headphones, and if I have to stream netflix live over WiFi because I've forgotten to download something then I have to use my wired headphones.

The only better tablets in my opinion are galaxy S6 and iPad pro, both of which are at least twice the price (not to mention much bigger and so don't suit my use case).
Madness that this and the M5 have barely moved in price over the last 12-18 months.

Maybe a lack of competition for low cost, high spec android tablets
Good tablet for the price.

i had it a few months back but eventually got rid of it because the bezel was too thin and I kept accidentally swiping the screen randomly with the edge of my palms...

Performance was adequate and I quite liked the screen but the form factor was unusual.

if only there were more square 8 inch tablets around!

i have now very reluctantly gone to the dark side and use the iPad mini...
I don't suppose anyone has any info on whether the Mediapad M6 or Matepad Pro will get a UK release at any point or is the M5 my best option?
I'd rather not get the M5 if one of the mentioned end up finding their way over here in a month or so
Does anyone have a recommendation for a case and screen protector - have one of these arriving today for the wife

Not really - it's not an entirely straightforward process and requires a bit of tech savvy tbh.

Thanks for the inspiration. Managed it after a few attempts, i just kept messing up Gapps. If anyone is struggling let me know. it really isn't that hard (I'm a fat 50 year old farmer)

Well done - glad you got it working! Honestly I think hacking and updating the firmware is the most fun I have with my tablet!
