Huawei MediaPad T3 8 (4G/LTE) + 1GB preloaded data - £112 @ O2

PLEASE NOTE - The link will take you to the Pay Monthly option which costs £144. If you click 'View our Tarrifs' and then select 'Pay as you Go' you get the £112 deal with 1GB proloaded data.

I was looking for something to replace my Hudl 2 which died the other day and decided to give this a go.

Seems an excellent price for the 4G/LTE version which I can only find for £185 elsewhere. All the other versions of the T3 8 I could see were more expensive (Argos £139.99 & Amazon £138.62) and were not the 4G version.

It has free next day delivery and you get a 1GB preloaded sim to use with it. It is sim locked (I tried an EE and 3 sim) but it looks like you can get an unlock code for under £5 on ebay. Also the O2 branding is absolutely minimal, actually the only thing on there was a single O2 app which you can uninstall.

Yes the screen is not as good as the Hudl 2 but the rest of the specs are very good and it is the cheapest brand with the option of adding a Sim I could find.

Specs for those who want them;

Internal Memory = 16GB
RAM = 2GB
Processor = Quad Core 1.4Ghz
OS = Android 7
Screen Size = 8 inch
Resolution = 1280 x 800
Cameras = 5mp & 2mp
Micro SD Slot = Up to 128GB supported
Connectivity = Bluetooth, Wifi, GPS, 4G & 3.5mm Audio Jack
Battery = 4800mAh

EDIT - Forgot to mention that mine did not come with a charger. Not a major problem as you can use any standard Micro USB charger, but something to note.

Does it come with a cracked screen?

Hey 97browng, can you confirm whether you have a dialer i.e. can make calls, not just texts? Got a T3 10 (Vodafone) and T3 8 (EE) - no dialer. Good tablet, Much better than Amazon Fire HD8 and even Samsung Galaxy Tab A6 (sold it now to replace with one of them).

£129.99 @ VERY for 10" version if you fancy a bigger screen.

If you don't need the 4g, the amazon fire 10 2017 model is a better buy imo

Can't install Google Apps and many other apps on the Play Store without faffing about with mods and stuff. I have a Fire and I don't use it because of that exact reason. So your recommendation is kinda bad.... imo

How do they know what data to pre-load for you?
Is this a MediaPad 'Philip K Dick' edition where they use precogs to determine what data you will download!

I don't have an O2 SIM with minutes to test sorry. If I get one I will let you know. It does have a dialler on the home screen though so I would hope so.

I didn't think that one supported a SIM card and 4g.

They give you a SIM card which has a 1GB allowance on it. You can then top up as and when needed.

It's firmware KOB-L09C105B003.

I was looking at exactly the same thing to see about rooting before it arrived. But as the branding was so minimal I decided against it as I only need data on it

Ahh Ok, I need the SIM so no good for me. I looked for the T3 10 with SIM support and could not find it for a good price. Amazon did have it earlier this week for £130 but by the time I went to buy it (a few hours later) they changed the description and removed all mention of 4G. I assume they had the wrong info down just like the T3 8 on Argos. It says it supports 3G but apparently it does not.

I root more for adaway then anything else. That is the main reason I don't like Amazon Fire HD8. Huawei devices can be rooted easily but the issue is finding the firmware if things go wrong (I know, trust me, lol - see XDA). My only task remaining on these devices is to enable the dialer which EE\Vodafone (and most likely o2 - TBC by you of course) have disabled. Huawei don't publish firmware anymore or at least making it difficult to get them.

I paid around £65 for 8" Model, £102.50 for the 10" (ebay, brand new). Vodafone unlocked one for free, and submitted free EE form yesterday to get the other unlocked. EE has been selling them for £120 (you need to ask them) and o2 £140 - which of course reduced now and Vodafone sells the 10" for £155 inc topup. Good Units.

Just so you know got an unlock code through today and inserted my 3 SIM which worked great.

The dialer also works fine and I was able to make phone calls with it.

Unlock code only £3 on eBay.

Cheers 97browning, If you decide to root it and then feel like sharing the OEMINFO / Dialer apk, then let me know via XDA

All these are wifi only, non LTE versions

Yes already been stated further down the comments.

I bought the only one of thes ein stock in Kings Lynn earlier today.
Cost me just £110, the assistant said the cost of the (required) SIM card had dropped by £2.

So I take it as it is pay as you go you could just never top up again and ignore the SIM feature?
