Well the tracker will work well with your phone, and I doubt you'll use the tablet as a phone
Good deal. Heat.

Well what I'm meaning is I hope you can easily set up the activity tracker using the tablet as my experience of the honor activity tacker is it's impossible to set up

Why would you not get the tracker?
This one or the new ipad 2020 12.9?
I'm in the market for a new tablet but not sure what to go for. Most of the lower end tablets are quite low spec (mainly ram). I've been looking at second hand Galaxy Tab S3 but they are quite pricey, around £200 to £250. Tempted to just go for as cheap as possible and not worrying about updates etc. I remember 6months back there were lots of tablets being posted from Chinese websites, they seem to have dried up now for some reason. Unless there is a cheap iPad deal I could go for that but all I see is iPad pro's on offer. Decisions decisions

Keep the S2 and install a custom ROM found on XDA. It will feel like a new tablet

It can be done but requires you to open it up, not sure how confident you are with doing that. Probably not worth doing it and putting the £50 towards a new tablet.

Guide below if your interested in getting your hands dirty:

If your close by and want to sell the tablet for parts i'll take it off your hands
Also if your opening it you might as well throw in a new battery
What a nice bundle 👌
What practical effect does the Google ban have on the tablets?

Huawei have their own app store called AppGallery so providing this has the apps you need you should be fine.

If an app isnt on there then your either going to have to wait for Huawei to add it or learn to live without or find an alternative.

I suggest checking that the apps you need are in AppGallery before buying it.

I've got a P30 which has both Google play and AppGallery, happy to check your apps for you if you give me a list

AnkiDroid and Google Translate, Google Drive, and probably a shed load of others

This tablet isn't effected as it came out before the ban. As far as i am aware the only Huawei tablet without Google Mobile Services is the Matepad Pro - which i have and have had no problems getting the apps i use via AppGallery and Huawei Phone Clone.

Fair enough, I'd rather have it delivered to my door as it's a non essential item, and get a freebie with it

But to each their own of course
Anyone else getting offered a mini speaker as a gift instead of fitness band?
Micro USB, no USB-C. Not messing about with that

Just clicked through and that's what I have been offered. Title of this thread now changed too. Can't imagine with the speaker that it is worthy of the heat given on a different deal.

Mine gets updated regulary but its still Android 8. Bit disappointing that.
miffyl03/06/2020 07:54

They're tablets without LTE.

they do come in LTE versions as well, but 4G i think. the one in this post doesn't come with LTE.

i have the 3gb ram one and i think for a cheap tablet, i am very pleased with my tablet as it is a lot cheaper than the ipad, which i was looking to replace. it is not up to scratch when compared with the ipad, but for the price it is excellent value for money. i am glad i made the decision to buy the T5 tablet rather than another ipad.

i read that the T5 has been updated to android 9 but mine is still android 8. i get excited every time i get a notification that an update is available, only to find it is just a patch or the MUI update. some people have had the android 9 and reading up on the net, it says that huawei are doing the android update in batches so maybe one day it will get to our batch
Shard03/06/2020 11:07

What about updates?

Fully supported and will always get them (just maybe not the latest major software). Any devices that have a licence with Google are legally obligated to continue support as you are as much a Google customer when buying anything with GMS. I believe all new devices that are being released by Huawei are effected, but not the old ones. And when I mean new, i mean that have been released this year.

Huawei have rowed back on their anouncement last year of support to "we have yet to be informed" (by whom?). So buy this on the understanding that you may only have Android 8. That's enough for me to turn my vote on this deal from hot to cold. Pity as my Huewei Honor 20 lite phone just went from 9 to 10. Go figure.

From a tablet point of view I question what benefits major updates actually bring. For instance i use my new MatePad pro tablet the same way i did three years ago on my t3 tab. For phones I can see not getting the latest major update being a factor into a buying decision but i feel you would be cutting your nose off to spite your face if you factored it into for buying a tablet.

I have a Lenovo P2phone only 3 years old but stuck on Android 6. My main banking app now doesn't work on that. So in 3 years time can you be sure critical security apps will all be there on Android 8? Ever iteration of Android may buy you another year ... and tablets (ime) last far longer than phones.

Phones I agree thats true, I can only speak for the people I know and say that they don't use a tablet for banking. But everyone uses their devices differently. This is still a great deal is my overall point
