Huawei P Smart for just £215 /£165 (after Paypal cashback) @ Tesco Direct

Huawei have just released the P SMart phone - it's got good reviews.

Today, Huawei have also just released a new cashback promotion, £50 Paypal cashback any P Smart bought from qualifying retailers.

here's their promotion....

huaweipromo.co.uk/gb/…ome

here are the qualifying retailers...

huaweipromo.co.uk/gb/…ers

Tesco seem to be the first out the blocks getting this phone onto their website...

tesco.com/dir…820

Therefore £215 - £50 paypal cashbak = £165.

FYI, The Honor 6 Lite @£199 is virtually the same phone at £199 ...but it has dual rear cameras, therrefore technically is a bit better ...and was cheaper, but this cashback offer tips the balance back to the Huawei P Smart .....I would have gone for the Hnor, but can't stand phone with glass rear cover (slip off everything) nor did I want a blue phone.

I'm wating to buy a P Smart from a standard retail (vs. a network provider), as I'd rather have one unlocked (without jumping through hoops to get it into an unlocked state)

P9 Lite is a couple of years old now...slower processor, more frame/less screen, stuck on Android Marshmallow (P Smart is Oreo), single lens camera, less memory ...I should know, I own/use a P9 Lite presently.

As the Op says above, the picture is wrong as it shows the Kodak Ektra Smartphone.

Bloody identical! I use the Kodak as my daily (realised it was actually faster than my N4)
Do you have to pay using paypal?
It's not giving an option for paypal

Do you have to pay using paypal?

You pay however you like. Its just the credit that goes in via paypal
you can pay however you want....but you'll need a paypal for Huawei to reimburse you back £50

Yes.
Good deal. Not sure if it has NFC though

Update - region dependent so do we know which model the UK gets?

Is Tesco on 02s network? If it is, should be able to use it on giffgaff.
How sure are you the cashback is valid at Tesco Direct, because the list of qualifying retailers states only Tesco Mobile and the link takes you to Tesco Mobile, not Tesco Direct. And on Tesco Mobile it is not possible to buy the phone outright, only with a contract
Tesco Direct is not Tesco Mobile and it's not £50 off it's £50 of a future purchase by Paypal.

Tesco Direct is not Tesco Mobile.

exactly - so according to the list of qualifying retailers the cash back is not available at tesco direct, so there is no £50 PayPal cash back on this deal?

Well I use a P9 lite and got updated to Android Nougat a couple of months back and still runs really well.

The link I posted to Tesco direct says "Tesco Mobile Huawei P Smart Black" ....so I think they'd be a bit pedantic of them to renege, but hey, you could always phone Huawei promotions on 0345 216 0131

Or you can just buy it from Argos for a tenner more (unlocked) ... argos.co.uk/pro…374

how's the camera?

Good in light conditions, low light not so good
Ordered it from Argos 😊
As the person who posted this deal, I've actually just tjhis minute ordered from AO.com (slightly more expensive vs the usual £225, but after Quidco there's almost nothing in it)

Why?

1. They are on the approved list of retailers participating in the promotion.
2. I'll get an unlocked version (I'd expect at least!) vs. buying from the like of Tesco Mobile, Vodafone, O2, CPW etc.
3. Quidco @ 1% (a whopping £2.29 - which is now already showing as tracked)
4. AO are saying they actually have the P Smart in stock ...with free delivery + I can collect from a nearby newsagent on Saturday 3rd March (whereas Argos don't have them until the 8th March).
5. They accept Paypal as a payment method.

So after Quidco & Cashback, that the Huawei P Smart for £176.71 delivered unlocked (in kjust two days time).

Happy with that.

Edit: AO have a price match policy......which can be invoked up to 7 days after purchase...so I've asked them to match Tesco

Presumably, any bought from Amazon but from a marketplace seller doesn't qualify for the £50 PayPal; there are some there for £200 delivered, which would work out to be £150 after the cashback.

I'm guessing it would have to be Amazon Retail as the seller (not third party sellers) ....but Huawei promotions team would be able to confirm (0345 216 0131)

Tesco Direct showing on the list for me,or is this the wrong link i'm looking at?

EDIT I see takes you to the tesco mobile site, when you click direct.

Offer only applicable to purchases dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk.

Yup, only those sold by Amazon themselves. However, it seems that Amazon.co.uk are getting stock in soon:

amazon.co.uk/Hua…:1-

£225, so £175 after PayPal cashback.

Just collected mine from my local drop off point (I purchased from AO, paid £229 delivered, but after I bought they refunded back £14 to price match Tesco Mobile, which is cool becuase if I bought from Tesco I'd have to poiny up a tenner to get it unlocked)

Therefore the final cost will be £215 - £2.15 (Quidco) - £50 cashback = £162.85

Initial thoughts about the phone (as a user coming from a P9 Lite), not as slim as my P9 Lite, feels heavier too (with rounded sides vs the more 'squared off' side seen on my P9 Lite)...it has an almost "meh, average" feel to it (the aesthetic reminds me a little of the Moto G range of a year or so back) ....but for the money, I'm happy enough...as my mobile phone doesn't define me! (the main thing for me is it's on Oreo out of the box, which will see me alright for a couple of years)

Edit: Got around to placing it side by side against my P9 Lite ....weird, pretty much the same thickness (same width & only marginally longer in length). I also weighed each phone ...the P Smart is 3g heavier (which oughtn't to be even discernible ...yet I thought the P Smart felt heaver, so what do I know!). I was perhaps a little harsh in my initial comments immediately above, it seems a well made phone.

Would anyone know if this would be a step up from a Samsung S5?

The Samsung S5 I have is VERY slow, however has a very good camera, records in 4k. Would the P smart be a step backwards?

Thanks

Do you know if this has a gyroscope as I'm thinking of getting one (also upgrading from the P9 lite which hasn't) and want to get one with a gyro for VR etc?
Can't seem to find a definitive answer online.

EDIT: AO promotions team has got back to me and basically ignore what I was told they have admitted they got it wrong.promotion still on sorry for that

Hi there,

I've been in contact with AO, Twitter and rang them as I was looking to buy from them and price match tesco , they keep telling me if they price match it won't qualify for the credit???., but to me it looks like Huawei pay up and all you need is proof of purchase, and IMEI . Did they mention anything like that to you?
