All giffgaff phones come unlocked.
In my experience, the "like new" ones are "new".
Possible £5+£45=£50 topcashback makes this a steal IMO (not guaranteed).
This is the old version, not the 2019 version, but it's a great device for a light user or as a backup, especially if you get it for £19 after cashback.

  • 5.65" full HD+ display
  • High-spec 13MP + 2MP dual cameras
  • Octa-core processor
  • 8MP selfie camera
  • Android 8.0 upgradeable to 9.0
  • 3,000 mAh battery

That’s a lot of phone for the dosh.
Can you top up only once and if you don't top up the month after would that not invalidate cashback?

Cashback is for activation of the SIM. Not ongoing use. It takes a few months to track, but you don't need to keep topping up during that time.
If TopCashBack works, this is an astonishing price. Heat!

One of my favourite phones. Bargain. Occasionally stutters but NFC and decent camera at that price, what's not to like?
I think I will be very greatful to you when TCB will work. Bought this for my mum. She will be very happy. I will be even happier if it will cost me like £20ish To be honest this should be hot like deal of the day or something. Many thanks op

As the phone is on sale you'll only get £5 off for the sim/credit via TCB. You won't get any better
Where does it say sale items are excluded?

It doesn't say that in the terms and conditions
TCB seem to be offering £10 cashback on the SIM - or do I have that wrong? Surely not £55 cashback in total???

Given that topcashback are specifically linking to sale phones I don't see why it wouldn't apply to the sale phones. E.g.:

£100 off Huawei P30 Pro. Grab it while you can. Plus more Huawei deals this Black Friday. While stocks last. Black Friday Deals available from 25th November – 4th December. Terms apply.Up to £45.00 Cashback

"Buy a phone" £5 cashback - tracks straightaway
"Purchase a refurbished phone and activate your SIM within 30 days" £45 - takes a few months to track usually

I bought one through quidco and Ts&Cs did say 6 months of top ups to get cashback, but if I get the full £60 I really don't mind.

It may be better to wait to see if there are any better deals this Friday. Am I right to assume this handset is unlocked to all networks?
Thanks to the folks who replied, I was wrong and have decided to take a chance on this, will see what happens in 2 months, only expecting the £5 tcb given previous comments but it's still an alright deal
Is this a much worse model than the 2019 version?
Ordered 2 of these. For "like new" they are pushing it. One had clearly been in a case and had scuff marks around the edge and small scratches on the screen. The second one was branded with Three mobile, so how come Giffgaff are saying its their own customer returns is odd. In addition, there's a weird curved pattern in the background, which looks like it could perhaps be image permanence, unsure. Definitely not right though. A real shame as, from the quick play around I've had with these, they seem capable phones. It's put me off getting them replaced so will return for a refund.

Oh dear. Sounds like refund time. Mine was brand new with front and back protective films still applied
Mine looks almost new with a screen protector applied already
Mine is cosmetically very clean, too. Screen protector applied and the Micro USB port is lint-free, always a good sign!
The battery doesn't seem as good as my 11 month old one but it will last me a day regardless.
Ordered 4. Tried 5 but they barred me. Have sold 4 at work before. Go like fresh buns
Mine is locked to O2 I guess?! Really annoying, needed an unlocked phone. I've activated the SIM first as well...
It was spotless, had front screen protector. Battery seems very good but I've not used it yet! Just left it asleep running app installs and it's not lost much % at all.

do you work with drug dealers? hardly anybody I know/ work with would be caught dead with a phone that doesnt cost them at least £500. The market for affordable phones seems to be limited to us HUKDers, and ne'erdorwells that need a cheap burner phone. I always get the p taken out of me for buying snide brand phones, usually from Gearbest etc.
Any idea between Y6 and this which one is better? I got this but thinking of getting another one.
I got the Giffgaff SIM with £10 bundle. Is it possible to donate this money to charity like by sending a message to charity and throw the sim? do I also need to cancel anything on Giffgaff to stop being charged next month?

Under activation it's asking to choose a goody bag but I had already paid £10 for this while buying the phone as it was the cheapest. Now I can't make calls so not sure what to do. Do I have to pay again and buy another goody bag? Will I get £10 back which I paid while buying the phone?

I think it's just checking whether you want to upgrade the goody bag, it won't charge you a second time

I incorrectly made two accounts using same email which shouldn't have happened or website shouldn't have let me but anyways logged back in with first account and it was sorted.

I have activated the sim and got an email to confirm but was wondering what would have happened if SIM is not activated. Would the money be eventually returned as I already have a pay monthly.

Ah thanks for confirming, Giffgaff only giving me generic response online. Will search for a phone number tomorrow

Message them and complain. My father got one that was locked, but otherwise in good condition. It also had no USB cable or SIM removal tool. He got £10 in credit and a code to unlock it for free.
Non update on SIM locked Giffgaff phone - the contact an agent online system takes a couple of days to get replies.
They've now come back with 'yes you should just get a refund as the phone is SIM locked'

The complain route has had a reply of 'answer all these questions... (Security but every single detail I can provide)

Not sure if any of this hassle is worth it! Guessing I've lost £10 on the bloody SIM and £10 on the forced top up
Doubt it will help anyone here, so I will mention it in other Giffgaff threads in future: the purchase was a disaster for me, after 2 weeks all they will offer is a refund. I am about to clarify they will refund everything. As I expect them to scam me out of the SIM price and credit.

So Giffgaff was a fail for me
Sorry to hear that. Yeah make sure you get a full refund. What use to you is a SIM and credit (not sure why you had to pay twice for this) without a phone?

Quite happy with the phone overall. Nowhere near as fast as my Honor Play which was stolen, but good enough until 5G hits and just waiting for topcashback to track to the full price.
