Have to be a die hard fan to take that much of a punt on a phone that may not work with good proportion of apps
I'd be all over this phone if had full Google access again. Mate 20 pro was one of the best phones I'd used in years.

Sadly you need to look at the whole picture. No heat from me

If it wasnt for the google play issue then I'd definitely be looking for an EE deal.

Without being able to install my usual apps straight from the box then it's a non starter for me.

😞😞😞

Only the Google Map and Youtube are missing, but there is app like their own Hetu Map (TomTom) as alternative. And it is highly likely you can side load GMS later by urself.

BTW, where is the P40 Pro Plus

Using Phone Clone when setting up the phone will bring over a lot of apps not available on Huawei app store. Obviously only handy if you have apps on an old device. It won't, however, bring over any Google apps.
engadget.com/202…tml

huawei suppose to have made an app to sideload google (or other company) app easily, but don't think any banking apps (or maybe fingerprint security type of apps) will work.
I'm a die hard Huawei fan having owned a P20 Pro and the P30 Pro. Beast of a phone with unbeatable battery life. I reluctantly had to return to Samsung... S20+... This is good but doesn't beat the Huawei. Really wish Trump would lift the Google ban.

Yeah, I was referencing banking apps etc which has been mentioned by others. It is a gamble and no one really knows how crippled this will be, as I say it is a gamble I personally think is too expensive at this kind of money
The notch looks awful
I spoke to a Huawei representative and apparently they will have their own app store which they are trying to get as many devs onto as possible. But they will also be linked to app repos I think one was apkpure so that you can effectively side load many of your favourite applications. They acknowledge it might be slow to start but I wouldn't say they're a write off. Especially if you have some tech ability.

No it's not
The punch hole design is awful, would've preferred the notch on the Mate 30 Pro over this. Gonna wait for Mate 50 Pro.

I am hopeful these will sell in below £200 range in a few months. I will wait till then.
No google apps... i wouldn't even bother if I was huawei.
For an additional £116.99 you could get the 256gb P40 Pro + buds + wireless charger + car charger
from Carphone Warehouse on Vodafone (64 GB data)

£199.99 upfront
£39 x 24 = £936
less £100 TopCashback
Total cost for 24 months = £1,035.99

Not really a reflection on the phone, but I would only consider these at bargain prices due to whole Google nonsense.

Won't it be something as simple as the Amazon tablets which took all of 5minutes to install Google playstore..
P30 looks so nice but dam P40 is so ugly with those big ugly front cameras

I hope so.

If you can load Google play and then get every app from there including my banking apps then I would be happy.

And a bonus if doing so didnt void any warranty

I love that people are discussing a £1000 phone when society is collapsing around us

As opposed to talking about the health situation 24/7 and just live in fear for the rest of eternity, or should life continue and people adapt to the situation and move on with their lives..

you can side load the app right now , just type in "huawei app gallery" in google, its just another app store like the galaxy store from samsung, just another platform to download apps, nothing wrong with it, just perhaps limited in comparison to play store, in regards to apps missing, it's literally just downloading the app and installing it, Google wants to partner with huawei, it's just politics that they have to play along, i doubt they will want to make it difficult to installing google apps on huawei phones, in the end they are losing customers if people are not getting access to youtube

Of course, if Huawei is forced to create a new OS, then it's competition for Google, they would care as you can see from the news, they actually want to have a partnership with Huawei, besides, having google's android on phones actually makes money for them, and considering Huawei is one of the world's biggest mobile manufacturers, if all their devices stopped shipping with android, they would very much care...

edit: and Youtube is part of the google ecosystem, and of course they make money from that platform, they want to keep all their customers, it's competition, it's bad for google, but as consumers, good for us, I look forward to what the Huawei ecosystem becomes, and other companies to follow suit when they have the influence for it

He will be lucky to get a p20 at that price
Anyone know if it's possible to get starling bank app working?
Good price for the deal

However no GMS kills it for me

Now you can sideload Google play etc but extra bugs may occur and apps like whatsapp wont show notifications because there is no GMS framework present and huawei's appgallery is a piece of trash, forcing most people to manually sideload apps and manually update them
