This seems pretty good for an "official".
apparently, it does work on the marketplace and with 3G built-in and a proper USB slot, it looks pretty useful.

CPU seems slow though....

video of the s7 here: ]http//ww…mp;

looks pretty good

A 9" screen and a better processor would give the ipad serious run for its money

tbh if it as bigger i would have bought it, plus my htc desire is faster which would be a tad annoying

Original Poster

off topic a bit i know but for my self was thinking of gettinga dell streak or htc desire what would you recomend

i kinda like the streak but 1.6 os kinda old now but they say and update will come. i also like the desire with 2.2 but iam egding towards the streak a little

great stuff

Very very nice. Voice capability also. MicroSD slot too.

I wonder if this will get picked up by a carrier, man I would love one of these lol

BTW this appears to be using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 1ghz processor, but it has been under-clocked to 768mhz to increase the battery life.

I'll keep saying this; 800x resolution is a touch too small to browse the web comfortably. If you're looking to buy one of these for mainly web browsing, then try setting your PC monitor to 800x(whatever your ratio is) and finding out if it's okay for you.

Is this the one huawei demoed with a cool HDMI dock? I think they called it a smakit or similar...

Edit: Thanks 2k56! - That's the video I'd seen...

Whilst a slightly larger footprint, I personally don't see tablets having the same power or functionality with portability over a Netbook which can be fitted easily with a third party touchscreen (albeit resistive instead of capacitive), the combination of portability, power and a touch screen with a keyboard all in one.

Am I somehow missing the point of what a tablet is compared to a Netbook?

Can someone explain why this is better than a netbook? Because of android and iut being all touch screen?

That speed processor is fine seeing as it's not running on windows =P

Personally for me it is:

ARM
youtube.com/wat…3QA

You have to watch the video to end for it to make sense. No doubt good quality ARM netbooks/laptops will begin to appear (like the HP Smartbook), when they do then I guess it comes down to what you prefer. A touch screen device or a netbook.

Although they could all be blown out of the water by Tegra 2. Another reason I still haven't purchased anything yet lol. There is a handful of companies basically battling it out now to take control of this lucrative market.

Very nice if you want a decent alternative to an iPad without being raped in the pocket.

Wot a load of B*****x when you can get a 1.3ghz joggler for £50
Wake up people.

It looks like o2 have stopped selling the Joggler, it doesn't seem to be on their website any more.
Having the Joggler myself, it's very nice for £50 but not really for the same use as this.
For me, o2 missed a huge trick with the Joggler as people didn't know what to make of it. It was sold by a mobile phone company and yet can't be used to make calls (should have included Skype) doesn't have batteries (people see it as a mobile device and it's not) and doesn't include any sort of web browsing or email beyond what o2 deign to give you (they wanted you to use SMS and pay them money).
The Joggler is eminently hackable by enthusiasts but o2 needed to make money back from the add-ons they wanted to sell you and this wasn't going to happen with anyone who installed Linux onto it.

Tablets, if done properly, will probably not replace anything you are likely to already have. What they could do is be a jack-of-all-trades, master of none type device if you only have space for one thing. Ereader, media player, web browser, email, phone (VoIP and mobile) and keyboard-less netbook are all jobs that the tablet computer can do in pinch.
They're going to be multi-tools rather than specialist items (for some jobs a pen-knife with attachments is fine, others you'll need a socket-set or set of screwdrivers).

Yeah, all the prerelease stuff shows it having a 1ghz snapdragon. No reviews about atm though.

You obviously dont:

i) understand what a tablet is
ii) understand what the joggler is

so can't work out the difference between the two. What you're comparing is like saying my plasma telly is crap because your PC monitor has a higher resolution- it doesn't work like that.

I might go for an Lpad ! (no that not a typo), $150 so they say.

Seriously, I will pick up a android tablet, I'm just waiting for the right one to come along.

Same as this I think

It's not just you mate.
I just see a time in the not too distant future when TheBay is awash with these tablet PCs (including iPads) once folk see them for what they really are. ;-)

There's absolutely no point ;-)

At a price of £100 then the one above would be worth a go for a bit of fun but paying £300 or Apple prices then no thanks not for me!

PRICELESS

What a completely stupid comment.

My Ford Escort looks like a giant corgi model, so theres no point in it as I don't have huge pockets...

I agree. if you're going to compete with ipad. might as well go all the way. maybe do better spec, i.e Super AMOLED, better processon, more ram, bigger scrren

samsung has a nice netbook out now. the NB30. worth checking out

Not good value for money.
Processor, resolution and storage should all be better.

I've got an iPad, which I still use everyday, as it has a 1024x768 resolution.
This means you can easily view full websites both in portrait and landscape.

If your willing to spend £300 on a tablet, just save another £100 and buy an iPad or a better android tablet.
Although that's just my opinion

Tablet = ARM Processor & Android
Joggler = x86 Intel Processor & Linux

You can't possibly compare the two,,, Wake up and do some reading.....

ipads, tablets pcs, jogglers are all novelty items. once the adrenalin stops pumping because of the excitement of seeing a new gadget you may actually see sense and buy a laptop or save your cash and invest in some shares is BP

Guess you are right except for the Bp shares.....also..ur user name kinda sound odd to me...dont know why though...

Not enough ram and the processor will be no good for flash. This sort of price with a 9" screen 1gb of ram, capacative screen Atom processor or better and you are in business.

I bought a 16GB Wi-fi iPad last night not having used one before just as a treat to myself and to use email etc at work and I have to say i am totally blown away by it. Im a huge Apple fan anyway and always had iphones since they came out but the iPad has really taken me back. It seems hard to anything to be an iPad rival or a killer......espcially something with an inferior spec to begin with.

It's hardly a surprise that a Jesus Job's Deciple loves his £430 "treat" ... the chances of someone like yourself coming on and saying anything different are remote. There is more chance of Jesus allowing Flash to run on his restrictive OS.

I don't think we are quite at that point yet for any device to just blatantly pwn the iPad. If there were devices on the market capable of doing this at a lower price already then Apple will have made one serious boo-boo.

That doesn't mean these devices are pointless though. They are basically filling in the gap that the iPad has created. Also bare in mind Expansys are pretty much the first shop to have these available (it is still pre-order), chances are this price is not at the actual retail price and it is perhaps £50 cheaper?

This same device is on Expansys US for 355$ (expansys-usa.com/d.a…911) - It does look as if the actual retail price will be £250 here maybe even less.

Anyone competent enough can self install a touch screen on their netbooks, kits are available on Ebay for £45-50, giving you a reasonable form factored computer with a touchscreen, the ease of use of a keyboard, a better OS, more memory and storage capacity for near enough half the price of an iPad.
