Decent watch but VERY laggy

I've turned off "ok Google" detection, tweaked other developer options and even turned off automatic brightness (all web recommended) but performance is very sloppy.

If you can out up with heavy lag this is a great watch.

I have zero issues with mine, very fast!
This is a good WearOS smart watch, especially for the money you're paying. My experience (from owning it a year and a bit) is that it can be a bit laggy as stated above. It doesn't affect the overall, day to day use, but is noticeable at times - for example Google assistant or app menu opening. I think it's more of a shortcoming with the os which apparently needs more RAM to be smooth.
Its also a bit of a bulky watch, with the added ceramic bezel around the screen not helping and its style may not be to everyone's taste - it doesn't get compliments like my Huawei W1 watch did.
However, you get an AMOLED screen with a brightness sensor, NFC for Google Pay, GPS, a speaker for assistant and ringtones, quick change straps, water resistance, heart rate sensor and more, for not a lot of cash - in the smart watch world at least.
Its one of the best WearOS watches, for now, along with the Tic watch Pro and Fossil Sport in that kind of price bracket.
Good deal.

EDIT: as BraddersJ states; the last update did resolve some lag and add more functionality with tiles also.

Dude, this was my exact experience since the black Friday deal and it was incredibly frustrating but about a month ago after Google's latest update, ALL my lag issues have been resolved.
I saw it everywhere. Summoning Gpay, getting to the settings, loading apps etc but it's gone. Really weird as the update had no release notes on performance?!

So yeah, might be worth confirming that there's no updates available?

There was also a post on Reddit about deactivating auto brightness increasing performance, although that is unconfirmed by Google atm

Edit: I see you mentioned auto brightness

Mine is laggy as well. Sometimes I have to run an app twice, as for the first time screen goes black and after few seconds watch face pop up instead of selected app. With ok Google detection is completely unusable.

What's the battery life like on GPS?
My experience was the same as others with this watch, super laggy. Ended up sending it back.
Some nice looking smartwatches on sale at the moment just wish I could afford one.
This the best value Hauwei phone out at the minute?
As this has Gpay and NFC I've finally bit. Dam you Prime Day
4G available for £30 more. Just a shame nobody provides eSIM support for this watch in the UK, rendering the 4G feature somewhat less useful.
Had mine 2 years, no issues. Battery now lasts nearly 3 days (everything turned on). Very light but hardwearing. Highly recommend, especially at this price.
Torn between this and the TicWatch C2 - any thoughts?

The only thing about Gpay is that you have to set a lock for the watch.. so have to unlock it before you tap it. It's a pain in the ****.

Has anyone got a workaround for this.

Same as phone ref unlocking. Think this is a basic security protocol so can't get round it.
What is the point of these devices when your phone does most of it? Genuinely wondering.

For me, running

Listen to music without bulky phone armband

Laggy, but useable

Hmmm, when I put the watch on in the morning the screen is locked, the first time I touch/press buttons it'll prompt to unlock with the unlock pattern, but it'll then be unlocked until I take the watch off again. To open Google Pay I double-press the bottom right button and it just opens on my default card, it doesn't prompt for another lock pattern.

A watch, NFC payment by touching card terminals, notifications/reply to notifications /change music track without pulling out your phone.
Just too laggy.

It was a little laggy for me when I first received it. After a couple of Wear OS updates, it was fine though and still is. I think also turning off automatic brightness helps quite a bit with performance.

Yup, this^

The media controls are really useful, especially if you're listening to new music/random playlist and want to know what you're listening to. The NFC/Google Pay is really handy too, I use it all the time at Tesco self checkouts and have assigned it to the second button.

I confirm, this watch is a lagfest. Have mine since blackfriday 2017. Purchased from Currys for 149. Considering it was 2 years ago I have to admit that the price holds pretty well for this one.

I have GPS on all the time and constant heart rate monitoring. I charge mine every day when I am having morning coffee - it usually says about 50% charge left every morning so will probably get about 2 days without a charge.

would you know if it works on the tube for payments?

Don't know. If the tube accepts Google pay NFC from a phone, then it will.

I went for the Pro, seems to get great reviews at its original price of £220, so a bargain at this. Faster and more premium
Decisions decisions ... See the Huawei is compatible with alot of fitness stuff the to watch isn't?
It's also worth noting that get this free with with Mate Pro 3 or whatever it's called

It should, yes (accepts Google Pay on my phone via NFC)

This watch links to the Huawei Health app on your phone which is fine - it also links to Google Fit.
