Beautiful watch and very good quality, at a great price.

Sadly, no WearOS is a no-go for me. Same reason Samsung Active Watch is no use to me.

Pity. Great hardware
Have had mine for around 3 months. Very comfortable, works well at tracking outdoor runs with useful rumbles at your set intervals. Found it extremely easy to set up and. I'm using it with a Sony rather than Huawei phone. Display is nice and clear. Battery lasts days and days and charges unbelievably quick.
Only down side so far is I've occasionally found the watch face has changed to a different one of its own accord or possibly due to my 10 month old daughter giving it a bashing.

Seems like WearOS is a real battery killer, looking at the specs of wearOS devices

It is, horrendous, even the bigger battery smart-watches - mostly in China, have dire battery life, though good for an wearos Smartwatch
Hi. I'd like to gift a smat watch to my husband but I dont know anything about them. Could anyone help me? Ideally I'd like one on which you're able to take calls with. I think the Huawei GT 2 does it but I was wondering if there was any other option with this feature?

No, you have to see this watch as more of a glorified fitbit, I still love mine, but it will show you whos calling and you can read messages etc but there is no replying or calling

The Huawei Watch 2 (not the GT) does calling and replying to sms/whatsapp. Also NFC so you can pay with contactless. But its Wear OS with shorter battery life.

I got Huawei Watch 2 Classic. Definitely the best on the market, despite being over 2 years old.
Battery lasts 2 days. I use it for:

NFC contactless payment / Oyster card.
Strava (running/cycling).
Taking calls (ala Knightrider/James Bond).
General fitness monitoring.
Playing music.
Some basic games.
Email/sms/whatsapp/messenger notifications/replies.

It looks fantatic, quite light. Some great faces.
It's not square-faced.

Unless you want to get tied into proprietary operating systems which may improve battery life considerably while reducing the broader sense of universality that comes from Google’s WearOS as a companion to Android (which rules out newer Huawei’s, Samsung’s) the only really credible choice right now is Fossil’s Gen 5 series. The Fossil Garrett is quite a beaut. Not perfect, but good performance and a best in class on battery life.

i’ve honestly never understood why 24 hours of battery wasn’t enough for some. Many smartwatch users rank themselves as ‘power’ phone users... so just put your watch charger next to your phone charger and dock both while you sleep. Do you need to tell the time from your wrist? i use my phone as an alarm clock anyway.

and just for the record, you look a prize dork talking into your watch. Hello, Dick Tracy. Better stick to a bluetooth headset......

as a tip, if you wanted a Fossil Gen 5, if you have a friend or relative in Americaland who would buy it for you and ship it, they’re on special at Fossil web for $199 over £289 here...

There are other designer brands producing REALLLY nice Gen 5 smartwatches... most of them are made by Fossil.

they have a great design for the current generation smartwatch platform.

Yeah, you can frame it that way.

you can also say that we’re demanding, in some cases, almost as much from our smartwatch as our smartphone. We accept the scaling downof the user experience, of graphics, of functions, but we expect the batteries to keep it all going in smaller packages.

the difference between a 41 mm and a 43 or 45 mm casing is enormous on the wrist. Smaller isn’t easy when it comes to battery.
Thank you so much all of you for getting back to me. I have till the end of may to make a choice, hopefully I'll make the right one! Thanks again

I have found that the watch face changes in water. If you lock it before showering, bathing etc it might be fine.
I have this watch and got it free with my wife's P30 Pro.

Pros:
Great screen clarity and brightness
Brilliant battery life (11-12 days)
Solid build quality
Great looking watch

Cons:
Quite large and heavy, especially if you've been used to a fitness tracker
No third party apps
No music control
Companion app double counts steps i. e totals watch and phone steps
Doesn't play nicely with my fitness pal

I like it generally but if I was paying nearly £100 I'd want something that addressed the cons that you can get with cheaper alternatives
