sorted byI have the bigger brother to this a Chinese imported ax3 pro. Can't really fault it except having to translate the setup initially. I used it to replace the WiFi on my virgin router and it's vastly superior. Not sure if because mines is Chinese it isn't regulated the same but the signal strength literally reaches the end of the street. Before disconnecting
This is aimed at Cable users, not ADSL, you could still connect it to your current adsl router or cable router and use it as say a access point but on it's own it's not a replacement for ADSL equipment, all cable users (virgin etc) all have to use the modem/router combination provided to them and switch it to modem only mode to use this in combination with it as a router.
I tried this to replace the standard VM router and it was about the same tbh. Ended up sending it back. I'd advise to go for something with a bit more juice than this.
You could always order and try it specially at that price.
I personally only use Netgear orbi mesh (edited)
Make sure the wireless region is set correctly, you could be unwittingly breaking the law, and more importantly messing with your neighbours wifi signals!
Smartwatches are all the same, new tech that is throw away. My huawei router has been going strong for 7 years, apart from a firmware update after 9months that bricked all the first batch of routers and they replaced it under warranty through the mobile operator without issue
A full x86 compatible platform is going to use a lot more electricity though, running costs will be very different (edited)
Exactly the case but with different brand cameras. Cheap third party extenders create more problems than they solve really. Vodafone have extenders but want me to pay £8 on top every month for an upgraded plan which is just not happening. So have anybody used that Huawei device as extender/WiFi booster?
I think you need to set your existing router to modem mode or you can turn off the wifi on it and then plug this into your existing router.
Much better wifi coverage, which is why I got it.
Yes, NFC for quick pairing... not worth £20 extra. You need to consider other functions when thinking about the Pro model... I honestly don't know if the higher powered CPU makes a difference as I don't have both to compare... look online for some reviews or comparisons. I have two AX3 Pro, but they are Chinese models, so I primarily got the Pro models for the additional signal amplification vs the non-Pro, but the UK model does not have this.
It depends on your use and devices... I have a Virgin Hub 4 and found I get lower latency now that the Virgin Hub is only performing modem duties. Also, I have WiFi 6 devices in the house... the range and throughput of WiFi 6 (ac) is awesome, and not supported by the Virgin Hub 4. If you don't game and you don't have WiFi 6 devices, then you may not appreciate the difference of the Huawei vs Virgin Hub 4. Virgin Hub 5 supports WiFi 6... I don't know how well that performs. (edited)
and that’s why everyone else on the street is struggling to connect to their WiFi... and if you see the neighbour with the pacemaker getting wheeled of in an ambulance do think to take his widow some flowers... there is a reason for regulation buddy
Yeah I'm sure they are all having major issues due to my WiFi one of a million in the street similar. Not to mention the various other devices outputting signals and the guy few doors up with his 1watt output RC stuff etc (edited)
It will not make it go faster than 50mb so unless you need distance in your home its pretty pointless spending the cash over the Virgin Router
Yes, before all the potenital white hats get in I know that there are vulnerabilities all over the shop. But if you think you're being targeted by these people for ongoing surveillance and you aren't doing (particularly) illegal, cut down on the wake and bakes. It'll be fine.
And every IoT sends data somewhere around the world.....
Thank you !
The global version removed the x2 2.4ghz amplifier to compile with the regulation apparently(annoyed)
I think TalkTalk make you use their router(maybe someone knows for sure?), so you have to keep that, and the white openreach box is a modem which you need to create the connection to the router. That means you can only do what others here have done with virgin cable boxes, use this as an additional box as a wifi access point by plugging it into the talktalk box
as I understand, the TalkTalk will be a modem/router combination and the listed router will only replace your wifi capabilities on the TalkTalk (As you'll still need it for its modem functionality).
if reception is patchy, i'd recommend a mesh wifi solution (Like the TP Link Deco M4 units)
AC1300 - Wi-Fi speed up to 867 Mbps at 5 GHz + 400 Mbps at 2.4 GHz
AX3000* - Wi-Fi speed up to 2402 Mbps at 5 GHz + 574 Mbps at 2.4 GHz
(* I think the names are wrong on the Amazon page... the wifi router is the AX3, not AX3000... the AX3000 is a newer product in Huawei's mesh range, however, multiple AX3 routers will function as a mesh in my experience).
I'd rather spend £100 on three Huawei AX3 Pro (direct from Huawei UK) than a TP Link Deco M4 triple pack. (edited)
By that count everyone with pacemakers in China will be dropping dead. Most kit are manufactured in China anyway. Most hospitals will have far more powerful WiFi than used at home. Patients don't drop dead in hospital due to WiFi
Mate your comparing a WiFi network to someone drink driving it's got a slightly stronger WiFi antenna compared to EU ones it's not as if it's gonna intercept nukes or drop my neighbours dead with his pacemaker like a emp pulse geez, I'm sure you double check all your stuff for EU marking or such I imported a phone from China to it didn't get my brain either
Thanks
Thanks for the info
I'm literally clueless on these and want to change the sky router but I keep hearing it needs to be compatible & call sky to ask for some settings .....?
Just get a cheap refurbed PC or laptop, the platform is not going to be supported in the long term unlike x86 - plus an old PC will actually give you good performance on Wireguard or maybe OpenVPN compared to this. (edited)
Interested if I could do the same for my sky modem as the Linksys extender I got is rubbish. My ring garage camera really struggles to stay connected and is only 6-7 meters from it
I've ordered one now, if it doesn't make any difference or is the same then I'll just sent it back.
Is that the Chinese version of Global Version?
Is it a straight swap or need some settings with sky box/vm ? Don't mind buying a better one .
Could you point me towards something that would explain how to do this? I'm a complete beginner to anything router related!
Entirely depends on the processor used ... I use a Ryzen 3200GE (low power version, passively cooled) but lower spec(and cheaper) low power x86 CPUs are available.
Oh I didn’t know that. I did wonder why it didn’t have a modem built in. We’ve only ever had ADSL and don’t even have FTH. Thanks for this info x
