Don't know much about this; except it's the dude that is HL and it has nothing but excellent reviews (eg Amazon 163 reviews and 4.5/5). You can't buy the standard edition for this price (cheapest I can find is £6.99 at Bee) and elsewhere this edition is £9 to £13

Hugh Laurie will release his debut album "Let Them Talk" on Warner Bros Records. A glorious celebration of New Orleans blues, "Let Them Talk" unites Laurie’s musical talent with a very personal selection of standards and lost blues classics performed with his band of renowned musicians and some very special guest stars.

Produced by Joe Henry and recorded at sessions in Los Angeles and New Orleans, "Let Them Talk" sees Laurie on vocals and piano heading a team of musicians whose previous collective credits include work with artists as varied as Greg Allman, Solomon Burke, Robert Plant, kd lang, T-Bone Burnett, Alison Krause and John Legend. Together, they interpret and revive songs originally recorded by NOLA blues legends such as Lead Belly, Robert Johnson, Ray Charles and Memphis Slim.

‘Let Them Talk’ also features collaborations with the Soul Queen of New Orleans Irma Thomas and Sir Tom Jones on the little known ‘Baby, please Make A Change’. Thomas also leads the vocals on ‘John Henry’, while Laurie’s lifelong hero Dr. John provides a momentous collaboration on ‘After You’ve Gone’. Another legend, the producer, musician and songwriter Allen Toussaint, contributes horn arrangements throughout.

Hugh explains ..
“In my imagination, New Orleans just straight hummed with music, romance, joy, despair; its rhythms got into my gawky English frame and, at times, made me so happy and sad, I just didn’t know what to do with myself,” said Laurie. “I love this music as authentically as I know how, and I want you to love it too. If you get a thousandth of the pleasure from it that I’ve had, we’re all ahead of the game.”

It's such a ridiculously good album, and worth every penny at full price, let alone £6!

Let Them Talk (the track) is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing things ever to have been played on the piano. Hugh Laurie is both a musical genius and an incredibly talented actor.

If you have a spare £6, you can't go wrong with this at all.

Is it really that good comingback?
I'm umming and ahhing about it - I don't want to sample tracks before I buy. Something about the 'unknown' in music that I really like - but others opinions (trusted) are welcome. I honestly only keep hearing good stuff about this album and am a twitch away from hitting 'purchase'

(Sorry about the delayed reply, hit the hay just after posting that last night!)

I definitely love it. I've only heard the first fifteen tracks from the original version, and am tempted to get the special edition on top sometime before midnight tonight.
If you've seen Hugh Laurie play the piano/guitar in any of the stuff he's acted in and you've enjoyed that, then I think this is definitely a solid purchase.

And I know what you mean about the unknown, there is definitely something about putting in a CD that you've heard absolutely nothing from that is so good. So it's definitely recommended from me!
(Please don't hold it against me if you buy it and don't like it as much as I do though!!)

I have the 'standard' version and can thoroughly recommend this album, it is totally addictive.

The dude that is HL? I think Hugh Laurie doesn't play himself does he :-p did you mean the dude that is House? either way I've been curious about this cd so might bite

Ordered, thanks OP.

Ordered - really looking forward to hearing this......

I saw him play keyboards in Lennie Henry's band at Uni in about 1997. Very awkward musician.

Another xmas present for my dad, thanks

he definitely plays, he is a very talented musician

Saw him on The One Show and Andrew Marr. An all-round amazingly talented chap.

He is a very talented pianist and guitarist, but having seen him on Later and other shows, his interpretation of blues just doesn't do it for me. Looks like a good price though.

Saw him perform on some show the other night. Dreadful. His singing is as awful as his American accent in House.

great price for deluxe edition

Good album, not sure about "amazing" and "musical genius" of HL, though... If you're into blues, jazz and some good piano sounds it will tick those boxes. Great to see new artist emerging nevertheless.

The accent that most of the Americans seem to say is spot on?

Same price on amazon if that's a better choice for anyone

Still sounds like a pub singer who can't sing

Great album...

Its one thing to act with a foreign accent but when you sing with such a pronounced put on foreign accent it smacks of fakery and mimickry. A product for walmart mums who think he is really scrummy.
