Dunno - I guess it's probably subsidised by Barclays to get the kewl kids to start wearing them?

"...The device can be used for payments for a minimum of 2 years..."
That sounds like a bank giving orders to me or making sure you buy another watch in 2 years time once you're hooked and they make some sort of system change forcing you to buy the next 'disposable' payment watch.

Still, even as just a watch, beats their Non contactless payment version which is selling for £119 on Amazon

pingit.com/pay…ne/

"...
Send money to everyone and anyoneWith Pingit your friends and family can easily collect the money you send them via their phone number, whether they have the app or not. Either way, select the person’s name in Pingit, if they have the app the money will be sent automatically to their account. If they don’t, a personal payment link will be sent to them to collect the money. No sort codes, no account numbers. Eligibility, terms and exclusions apply..."

The Pingit app is available on both iOS and Android.

How and if it ties in with Apple Pay, I'm not sure. Anybody?

What do you have to actually press on the watch to activate the contact less?

Nothing afaik.
Once registered against an account, the watch will be flagged as "enabled" on their db to allow it to be recognised & verification against payment terminals can take place. Bringing the watch into contact with the card reader's NFC for a few seconds and that should be all there is to it.
Not an actual user of this watch, so, might want to ping Pingit with a message for a definitive answer.

You setup an account with PINGIT and add funds... think of it as a prepaid credit card that can only be used via contactless...

and it doesn’t need a battery/charging. Very useful for a day out at the beach (the fob is at least) you don’t need to take cash or cards out with ypu

To be fair, it's the one that made me go look online
nice watch. Did anyone notice it's listed on the site as 40% off with original selling price £99.99 so it should be £60 and not £69.99, or am I missing something? tempting purchase though!

Didn't notice, but now I'm thinking "Barclays, a bank that knows 5hyt3 about numbers. No bl dy wonder there was a banking crisis!"
Pingit is not compatible with ApplePay. I have tried to connect my card to it, but no joy. Would have been nice.
