Manchester - Real Junk Food Cafe (Pay as you feel)
LocalLocalFound 12th JulFound 12th Jul
I recently found about this cafe in Manchester and it is amazing! They collect unwanted food from supermarkets and restaurants (all obviously perfectly safe to eat - usually given … Read more

I am the volunteer coordinator at Real Junk Food Manchester. We are a not for profit organisation and we rely on people who can afford to give doing so. It's really unhelpful to have an advert that suggests that we are here to give out free food. Ideally we would suggest people support us by giving what they can. We promote ourselves as a pay-as-you-feel restaurant. Also our food is intercepted before it it thrown out but there is nothing wrong with it. It is not going to be thrown out because it is not pretty. Much of our food is the same as that you would buy in a supermarket and often has weeks, months or years till its best buy date. We appreciate the support and passion of the volunteer who wrote the original post and love the wonderful things they said about us but it is important that the information is correct.

And hopefully they won’t, but that’s a risk the pay as you feel cafe has taken.

Will pop in a couple weeks when kids are off and try it out

But my point is this is Hotukdeals Most users are cheapskates, I feel like a lot for users will a abuse this and be greedy when they don't need it Have you seen Wuntu and O2 deals? People complain about paying £3 for a pizza or a pasta dish from restaurant

There isn't.

@OwlEye Don't suppose you know if there is a shallow end for non-swimmers? I suffer from what I think is chlorine allergies, I've been looking for a non-chlorine swimming pool in London but what I've found on the internet is outdated and those pools have shut down. So this could work.

You load of wimps. Is this your health & safety gone mad? Read the Environmental Agency report on these ponds, and then make your stupid comments.

I'm amazed they can sell it at this price and people perceive it to be a deal. In less-economically developed countries in Asia, this is generally only consumed by the poorest people in society (manual labourers and so forth), and avoided by members of all other social strata (who eat whole, non-broken rice). While that isn't a denunciation of the quality/product itself, to sell it at this sort of price is rather audacious; and for it to be seen as good value for money, is very surprising IMO.

Cheap bird food! Wouldn’t eat it myself though

Great deal but how do you fix the rice so you can use it again?

All this "Some assembly required" business is getting out of hand.. (annoyed)

Went down to Bletchley Park a couple of days ago and we were told that the offer has been extended to the end of the year due to it being very popular.

You are welcome. have a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptanalysis_of_the_Enigma "The German plugboard-equipped Enigma became Nazi Germany's principal crypto-system. It was broken by the Polish General Staff's Cipher Bureau in December 1932, with the aid of French-supplied intelligence material obtained from a German spy. A month before the outbreak of World War II, at a conference held near Warsaw, the Polish Cipher Bureau shared its Enigma-breaking techniques and technology with the French and British...." ... and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enigma_machine starting with "Around December 1932, Marian Rejewski, a Polish mathematician and cryptanalyst, while working at the Polish Cipher Bureau, used the theory of permutations and flaws in the German military message encipherment procedures to break the message keys of the plugboard Enigma machine." I'm not Polish but I thank them as well...

I went a few years ago. IIRC the ticket allows you to come back again (within a year)? So it may be worth going again after you've found out more. Also within walking distance is the National Museum of Computing which has a Colossus computer and another Bombe

I've been there doing tourism, but despite most of us having some Polish blood running in our veins, I, like many others, am ignorant of what to look for, where to start. Nonetheless you have opened my senses to uncover more.

If you haven't gone there, you should, if you want to find out what really happened, and read a few books, and look at Wikipedia, It's all there in English, but it's complicated.

Have to agree, it is cheaper to shop at Primark than charity shops.

I was in there today, bought a lovely bathroom cabinet. Had to buy a child's buggy too to get it home!! They have some fab stuff in there.

They should be this price anyway, too many charity shops are pricing stuff at rip-off prices now. £7.99 for a blokes shirt FFS. Cheaper to buy new! (mad)

Probably die even sooner if I fit £1 second hand regulators from car boot sales. (angel)

They go for about a quid on car boot sales (shock)

Agree with that, same gas different bottle, but my bbq has a 27mm clip on regulator, which fits a patio gas bottle, the regular red propane bottles have a different type of regulator (screw on) so I would have to buy a new requlator (£10 - £15) to save £4. And a 13kg bottle will last me years. I will probable die before breaking even. (shock)

Their web site shows £30.60 and you will need to buy a discount card for £5 to get it for that.

Patio gas comes with the quick connect valve which is probably safer for most.
