Humax Direct have a Humax DTR-T1000 500GB YouView Box for £129, £188 on Amazon.

I've got one and while it's not had as many new services added to it as I'd hoped, it's still a nice bit of kit, built in on demand players and backwards tv guide.

Good deal - but maybe cause its refurbished?

Good deal. Have bought from Humax Direct before and it was just like getting a new unit. No issues at all.

doesn't say that it's a refurb, but it is the older model which could explain the low price. But it will still do the job.

Same here.

HUMAX products are very good until you need support, (I own a HUMAX FOXSAT HDR FREESAT Recorder), once out of warranty the support is none existent, I never had any problems until the unit was out of warranty, I had a problem with my receiver which was firmware related, I emailed HUMAX more times than I can remember and NEVER received a single response, I managed to resolve the problem my self with NO HELP from HUMAX.

"Grade A" units as defined by them:
"Grade A" units are marked with the suffix -G or -GSP at the end of the part code. Grade A's are predominantly store returns that have been tested and where appropriate repaired to an "as new" standard in our own service centre or factory. They come fully boxed with all accessories and full instructions and are all backed up by a complete 1 year on site warranty.

Bought 2 of 3 items from them in the past - one looked new but came without promised HDMI cable - they posted it same day; other did show SOME usage on the rear panel but rest perfect and has worked fine for years.
(Main likely future failure point is the HD which will be replaceable with some hassle.)

I have no problem with customer service I phoned asking how to stop thebox from freezing up after a few hours they avised me to do a factory reset. . yep . . . still freezers up you have to turn power off at mains then wait till it reboots and will be ok for a few more hours then will freeze again

Good find and £16 less than their usual Manager's Special price.

I believe that the only difference between the old and the new design is the colour of the unit and its LED's. If I have that wrong, I would appreciate knowing what the differences actually are please.

Sounds like the same problem I had, if it is a FREESAT HDR with a hard drive the possible reason it is freezing is because the hard drive is over heating, the reason for this is (in my case) the fan at the rear of the receiver was not working, I removed the fan and tested it to find there was nothing wrong with it, this problem started after an OTA firmware/software update, I know HUMAX can be contacted by phone but it's an 0844 number and it's chargeable (10p a minute) so emailed them but never received a response, if you require more advise on how I permenently fixed my FOXSAT HDR you are welcome to email me.

Thanks OP

The main part of my fan fix is to have the fan on all the time that the box is doing some thing

Hi, I have sent you a private email.

Delighted to say never had any issues with my Foxsat-HDR over the many years, even with DIY upgrade to 1TB.

Could I ask how you got to this page when on humaxdirect.co.uk? The reason I ask is that I am looking for a good deal on the HDR Fox T2 and wondered if this is also on offer? When I go to humaxdirect - managers specials where all the refurbs are, the YouView model you are referring to is £149 so I was wondering where you found this offer as if there are further reductions then the HDR Fox T2 may also be cheaper than the £139 it is showing at under managers specials.

Hi, I am having similar issues with the fan on my Humax unit. I have never actually seen or heard it running. Could you send me your fix in a private message please?

Thanks.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how to fix a fan problem on a Humax YouView box. Ours appears to have stopped working which in turn means the whole system now doesn't work as it overheats. Many thanks in advance

Hi Matchstick,

Can you please share your Fan Fix with me.
I have the Youview DTR-T1000 box. My fan never seems to operate, even when the components get very hot.
The CPU Heat Sink seems inadequate for the job. All electrolytic caps look OK (no bulging), and nothing looks burnt.
When box gets hot, the video is the first thing lost, followed by lack of response to the remote control. Box has to be allowed to cool (by switching off), before all is OK again.
The fan is testing OK (not open circuit), so I'd like to have it permanently on, when the box is powered out of stand-by.

Hi, I have a Humax DTR-T 1000 which has been a bit iffy for a few months now, but yesterday it gave up. Blank screen, so I turned it off for half an hour and it worked again just long enough to re boot and display. Then it all went black again. Took off the lid today and looked for overheating, suspected the CPU heat sink might be loose, but it is fixed OK and it gets very hot, sprayed some cooler on and the box worked again for a few minutes, then failed again as the CPU overheated. What I thought I would try is,
1 Fit a bigger heat sink on the CPU
2 replace all of the electrolytic capacitors in the PSU, that is 3 x 680 uf and the big mains smoother 120uf 450Volt
3 Replace the 10 220uf 16v capacitors on the main board.
Reason, we all know that electrolytic capacitors 'dry out' over time and with use and loose their capacitance, they no longer do what it says on the tin.
A bigger heat sink will cool the CPU better and allow it to run at full speed when it's cooler.
What do you guys think?

Pls can you share fan fix as iam having same issues?

***chris1982418*** I replaced the fan on mine several years ago with one intended for a laptop. Just check the power suply requirements first

Hi, having the same problem. Any chance of sharing the fix/

***funchris112*** Any fan of the same dimensions but slightly more powerful should do. Only use the red and black wires. I just cut the old fan off then twisted the wires of the new fan and a bit of tape for protection
