At least it is free once you have purchased it, unlike Sky.

Hmmm, that's tempting.
Do I buy one of these to replace my PVR9200T or wait till next autumn and go for a FOX-T2 HDR......

If you trust Which? then this is their opinion earlier this year >

Had one of these for about a month, good bit of kit and it upscales SD picture to very close in quality to HD broadcasts. Hot
To go with it I bought a complete satellite dish kit with quad LNB and cables etc. from Ebay for £23, installed it myself.
Picture quality is perfect really, better than freeview (and I used to think that was good).

I've ummed and ahhed over these for ages, but each time I phone sky they give me a half price deal, so now I've got 4 packages, a ton of channels I like, and 6 months at a tenner.

It just doesn't stack up for me until these are more like £150 ish. And comparisons to Sky should be tempered because Sky offer a hell of a lot more than freeview.

That kit sounds like a good deal, who was the seller mate?

Do you have to tell them you wish to cancel your subscription to get these offers?

Great device. I've had one since they came out. Attach a decent 1TB external disk and what more could you want.
I dont understand why anybody takes Sky any more.

Couple of criticisms:
Display is very bright, you need some dark semi opaque film to calm it down.
You cannot pass to permanent storage your buffer.

Sky do have more channels it's true, shame they are almost all rubbish.

Personally the few channels I might want to watch are only on Sky so it's Sky or nowt.

Software update in next few days will allow recording of buffer!

I added all the free non-freesat channels to my viera freesatHD TV recently, and, yes, there was almost nothing I'd actually want from them that I'd be willing to pay for

it'd be nice if all the standard (BBC,ITV,C4) channels were HD all the time, but that will come.

Doubt this is the forum to discuss your options further but the internet is a wonderful place!

Source? Software updates from Humax are a bit like those 'free beer tomorrow' signs in pubs.

LOL, I meant Sky Arts One mainly (for the music) honest!

Well OK the music and Mariella Frostrup

Yes, well, it was over 6 months for Humax to come up with the fix for the 9200T post DSO problems IIRC. I really wouldn't buy any product based on features that are still vapourware at time of purchase.

Hate Sky and was an early uptaker of Freesat because the apartment we were renting had a dish already installed. Quite proud of not paying for satellite.

But recently moved and made sense to get Sky because they were having half price packages, free HD and free installation.

Ended up costing £85 for the year because Quidco paid out £65.

Would have cost over £30 and a couple of hours to install a new dish.

So would go for a Sky package for a year and then cancel and flash the PVR with new software to take advantage of a cheap HD PVR.

Interesting, thanks.
Not a huge difference but a slight edge for Freesat.

I might have to compare the channel lists again

Theres been speculation of late on forums about a software update planned for this model recently. Confirmed this month by Graham North (Commercial Director) at Humax in a mail shot to customers.

Very tempting, I grudge paying sky 30 quid a month, shame they wont let you use the recording functions with the free to air card, the swines
