Humax Freesat HD HDR-1000S 500GB £149 Tesco Direct

Was looking for a Humax HDR1000S PVR since ditching Sky TV, cheapest I could find was Currys/PC world at £159.50. Just saw Tesco are selling it for £169.00 but if you use code TDX-KNWT it brings it down to £149.00.

You could always price match tesco with currys

yeah, i get this with mine all the time. i don't think there are any fixes though.

when i got mine, i was rather chuffed to find out you could cast youtube videos to it in exactly the same way as a chromecast, and at the same overall speed as well so i flogged my chromecast

Better off with openbox and a gift

Please pm me a link, thanks

Zgemma star s2 , just add a hard drive to record and this is the dogs

This is an excellent piece of kit. I packed in Sky about 12 months ago and got this instead. Iv'e never looked back. The 'Freetime' menu system is very easy to use and on a par with Sky's.

Thanks, will do some research £75 with gift, is that the one?

Have a look at Techkings forum google it

Be careful of cheap packages, there are cloned boxes in the market, and they will cost you more in the end as the gift is poor service

I once had a Sky fitter, the proper kind with all the van livery etc try to sell me a "special" box with a gift. He had a stack in the back of his van, quite funny i thought.

Not sure where mine came from but works. So that's all that matters

Had this box now for 2 years with no issues and not laggy in anyway.

Zgemma h1 here , superb peice of equipment.
Two tuners , hi-def and as many channels as you can throw at it using "gift". All for a mere £75

Can everyone who has hijacked this thread to talk about Openbox or other alternatives please make it clear that you aren't talking about the Humax deal posted. I'm all for suggestions of alternatives, but the multitude of different device names makes it hard to work out who is referring to the Humax, and who isn't. #confused
I've got the 1TB version of this Humax and don't have any complaints about lag. I wish you could turn off the scrolling programme name along the front of the box when you are watching a recording, though...

Thanks op bought 5

I've got two 1000S boxes and both are unreliable - frequently lose sat connection and fail to see Ethernet connection so Iplayer doesn't work. The previous Humax box (foxsat) was really reliable but this model is rubbish in my experience - but of course your mileage may vary.

had this for about 18 months and apart from the odd lock up and last weeks ch4HD balls up it's been fine, upgrade the drive to 2TB and cap till your life is content, could be better but best one out there IMO. I think i paid £135 from humax direct and £45 for the WD 2TB AV version (don't forget to set jumpet to slower speed) and as i say it's been awesome, well worth the money, unless your a major sports fan you won't miss sky.

You are better of buying a separate gift. The ones that come with box are usually rubbish.

What's better YOUVIEW or FREESAT FREETIME (_;)

I don't get it. I left sky ages ago but still get loads of channels through their HD box. ok I cant record anything but get other things like netflix etc through blu-ray player. Is this just to record then?

I bought the 1TB version from Humaxdirect just over a year ago and it has been faultless.
Heat added.

not a bad deal. but have serious concerns over Humax products having returned mine several times in the past year.

Superb alternative to sky, heat

Those "gift" boxes look very interesting...

Left sky for this about 3 months ago. Great piece of kit with no problems.

Think you need to spend a bit more on an Enigma 2 box..the xpeed lx1 has optical for around 80 quid

Great stuff. Been using the old blue viewing card to record on my cancelled sky box for a few months. Worked great until the recent software update. Now can't watch a thing I've recorded.
Been looking around and was tempted to go to Richersounds for £160 but the voucher and random clubcard vouchers I had took this down to £136.
Collecting tomorrow

Yes and no. I have the above and its great for the sky elements but if you are moving from sky it's a tough transition as there is no discernible EPG (method of downloading EPG has been down for over a month) and with only 1 tuner you can only record what you are watching.

If you just want a method of watching and recording the normal channels in HD then the freesat is perfect.

I won't be changing from the openbox but there are compromises to make.

169 quid now.

I used some black insulating tape to completely blank the front panel LED display because the scrolling text was ludicrously distracting. With an onscreen UI, I never used the front panel for anything anyway. I pulled the same tape trick with my Asus router's bright blue flickering LEDs that would actually produce a disco light show on my bedroom ceiling when I turned the room light off!

As for the Humax, a nice bit of kit, but the UI takes too many remote presses to navigate (often an extra level of menu than you'd expect). It doesn't help that there's a criminal lack of use of the 4 coloured remote buttons to provide shortcuts to common operations (Sky boxes have always done this well). It looks like firmware updates have dried up (Nov 2014 was the last one), despite some bugs still remaining.
