I might be wrong but....with all the cashback deals you can get for signing up to Sky, wouldn't it be worth signing up for a year with them and cancel? After which you have a HD box to watch all Freeview going forward (plus you have had a year watching all Sky.)

Once you cancel sky you cant access all the recording of have got. Also the recording function doesn't work without a valid subscription. So no having a free sat box which records is better than sky and after a year being left with nothing

I've just cancelled sky after 12+ yrs as a customer, prices are getting ridiculous. going to see how we get on with just freeview using the ps3 /android box for catch up, but having read up on freesat if we get a big think this will be what we go for!
thought about now TV for my son but realised I can get the cartoon channels live on the android box so not bothering with that either.

I have this, it's brilliant! No more rip-off prices from the greedy swines at Sky! Obviously the couch potatoes out there who live in front of their TVs will miss the million channels you get with Sky but for normal people who have jobs and lives outside of TV then this is a must have!! Free TV is fantastic!

Ahh...yes...I remember that now.

Well I am still going to cancel Sky- even if I cant record programs I can use my Chromecast/Now TV box to watch any catch up stuff I need to. Or "watch less TV and go outside and do something less boring instead"....

Cancel sky and a few months later they will call you with 75% off all their TV package. They will also give you new box and dish. They did that with me and I pay £16.50 for family package (normally £66 per month) including sports and movies. It was only £6 for the entertainment pack on its own. Just cancel every year!

Or cancel it and get £5 knocked off your bill per month. Theres no guarantee youll get anything off the ripoff that is Sky.

keep getting "Please correct the following errors" when going to pay, whats the problem? it doesnt say

Boo, I don't have a satellite dish, I'm guessing this won't work without one?

We did the same thing 5 years ago now, went Freesat and not looked back. £40 per month better off for it too.

Great deal by the way - hot.

nice, heat added

The only think that keeps us with Sky is Sky One and a couple of the kids channels.

No, it's a freesat box.

I was going to get one of the £149 ones but with £100 quidco+£75 bill credit I've gone back to Sky, will cancel in 1 yr and go back to Freesat for a year. I did miss the Sky EPG especially the speed of it.

Most they will give me is 50% with no new box or dish. Happy with my recordable freesat box.

I got that, turns out it needed me to enter my phone number in contact/payment details

We have used this box for over a year well worth it.

Same here, I went for years cancelling Sky every year and waiting till they rang me with a 50% off offer.
I just got fed up with it in the end, I don't really like playing the games we are forced to with these companies.
So I bought one of these almost a year ago.

These boxes aren't without problems, the start up time is really long and it's clunky slow EPG is terrible compared to the Sky + box, we sometimes have problems with ours as well, locks up etc, I'm thinking about sending it back, but I'm guessing they are all the same.

But on the whole, it's a pretty good box and I'm very glad to be away from Sky. Interestingly, since I bought this box, I haven't had one call from Sky to renew.

Hi, talk talk TV includes sky one I think and was alot cheaper than having it through sky! The other way is to watch it through now tv entertainment pack.

Isn't it work considering the free view humax with youview plus instead. A bit more maybe but sounds like a better system and through your aerial.

I've had freesat now for a year after cancelling sky, best thing I ever did!

Double check if you can get netflix on this one, my humax doesnt have it, does my head in.

Has anyone tried a Linux based satellite box to use with freesat? They will probably cost more but are far more mature tech without the firmware issues that Humax boxes always seem to have which never get fixed. I have a Humax 9200T freeview box which was never fixed after numerous firmware updates. I don't think I would gamble on Humax again!

I do need a Satellite tuner, I have two dishes with none to my TV ATM after having some work done which meant removing the cables and I am keen on refitting them. It has to have time shifting and recording.......I do not know why I pay for a TV license when I never watch the TV, don't put it on my PC and extremely rarely watch freeview. It might as well not be there!

If anyone has any experience of the Linux boxes, I and possibly others might be interested in hearing about it.

Presumably this sort of setup also does not allow remote recording? ie using an app on your phone to set the box at home to record something

this defo the same box? seem to be well regarded everywhere

I cancelled once and they block loads of Freeview Channels. Many HD CHannels were blocked and Channel 5 from memory among others.

Left sky and went to this. Too many channels full of xbxbxbxb. If you need any sky could use now tv. You can plug in a USB drive and watch movies and current tv programs downloaded from ahem

Netflix us using a vpn now have all the good shows, ie pawn stars, american restoration and counting cars so going to get this and just pay for a vpn and netflix

Not sure what you mean I has zoom zoom fast fibre. If you mean the screen menus etc they work fine. I like th fact that BBC1 (101) for example will ask if you want to go to the HD channel instead
