Humax Freesat HDR-1100S 500GB £62.65 @Tesco instore. Box has all terrestrial catch up services, and Netflix app, records, and has Freetime service. This is a clearance item seen in Tesco Newtownards Extra, so before all the wild goose chase comments begin, nobody is forcing anyone to go looking for this, this may not be in all Tesco’s but is worth looking out for if you have a Tesco close by or are going there anyway.

How much would an aerial installation cost to enable Freesat? Just moving and would be interested.

Not sure, a dish would need installed with a dual lnb. Wouldn’t cost the earth, a local company would quote you over the phone.

If the house you move to already has a satellite dish then it is just a case of connect yourself and turn it on

Yep, can use existing sky dishes for these.

There were at least a couple, towards back left of store at end of an aisle with other random clearance items, including panasonic blu ray player with 4k upscaling at £29.

Ok thanks
Never seen this at my local Tesco, had the previous model the 1000s and that packed in pretty quick, hope the newer version is better.

Also, because of a dispute with Channel 4, 4HD is not currently available on Freesat although it is expected to return.

So a second-hand Sky box may be a better bet ATM although you can't record with those like you can with this.

4od has also been removed because of the dispute with C4.

You can also use a single line in, but obviously that limits the recording to single programme at a time.
This box costs £139 as a refurb from Humax Direct, so whoever was doing the pricing at Tesco that day must have been feeling pretty generous.
Price at Tesco Extra Barnsley is £199, 320gb version is £139, got a bargain.

Can anyone tell me any advantages of Freesat > Freeview?

More channels with freesat , if the box says plus or + , it means it will record , really depends on how much tv u watch. Im more a illegal film person
Freesat is handy if your freeview picture is poor..like wot i get.

I live in Edinburgh in a ground floor flat so don't have access to the roof and an aerial for freeview can't "see" the two available transmitters, one is behind a hill and one is far far away to the west, satellite works since it needs to see upwards not along the ground

Geek alert: here you can see if you will get a good reception on an aerial

Now there's no Channel 4 HD or 4OD there isn't one IMO.

I wonder if we will see future freesat boxes on the market that will work in the same way as sky q with the new lnbs. Problem they now face is any ex sky q customers can't move to Freesat without changing the dish lnb, this is a major problem and makes moving to them not plug and play. The amount of free to air channels that choose not to pay to be on the service is also a real problem, channel 4 HD pulling out because of high costs is a major blow.

That's why you specifically demand a hybrid LNB when they install SkyQ

If it's any help I noticed this the other day, but tuned it in as a non-Freesat channel:

Frequency(MHz) 11127
Symbol Rate 2200
LNB Vertical
FEC 3/4

I use Freesat with our LG, but hadn't noticed the channel go because I use a custom channel list. It was only when I turned on the Freesat box upstairs the other day to watch The Simpsons that I noticed it was missing.

That's not really something the average person would know. The installers fit the muiti band lnb as standard and in years to come Freesat doesn't stand a chance if the target market don't have a lnb compatible with the service.

Nowhere did I suggest I was average, I'm definitely a cut above the plebs.

RE years to come, Freesat won't be piggybacking off of Sky's dish installs in any case, they'll be pure IP delivery.

They have said they hope C4 HD will be back soon, and presumably 4OD as well - but then, 4OD is an online service, and is available on smart TVs, fire sticks, PCs, tablets etc. So less of an issue that 4HD is.

Didn't mean you but most people wouldn't know. Is there a reason why sky are not giving everybody hybrid lnbs as standard? Too me it's a clear indication of making customers lose the opportunity to take up Freesat after there sky q offer term.
But its not like changing the LNB is expensive...they are only a few quid.
A whole new dish and lnb is £32 on amazon.

Cost.

Why do you think they're trying so desperately to get their IPTV business up and running.

Hope they do make that move soon, free up some much needed transponder space for Freesat, you never know the BBC and ITV may call it a day and end Freesat and go IPTV too.

It's the future for all.

Definitely need to reclaim the airwaves for technology that needs it, like 5G.

Makes sense, would save money on costly TV transmitters and satellites. It's not really feesable for the BBC just yet, not everyone has the internet and open reaches speed is so low for some it wouldn't work, maybe a 4g or 5g IPTV box is the way forward.

Damn, didn’t know this, didn’t ask for one, but is there any way of identifying if the engineer fitted one? No freesat box for me then, glad I read the comments before purchasing!!

It'll have likely 6 or 8 feeds, but no identifiers etc.

Contact Sky saying their install borked your freesat box and you want it rectifying.

Two questions - did you start with ordinary Sky or Sky Q?

If you started with Sky Q you would almost certainly have the "wrong" LNB.

If you started with normal Sky then changed to Q, did they change the dish and LNB? If they did then you would have the "wrong" LNB, if they did not then you would have the "right" LNB.

To be honest, if you can access the dish then changing the LNB should be a doddle, the LNB should be fitted at a 15% skew but apart from that everything else should be set up.

If you cannot do it yourself it should not be too expensive to get it done by an independent engineer.

Started with normal SKY and updated to Q, the engineer changed the dish, so presume I have the wrong LNB. Thanks for your help
