You can record via USB

As good as second hand.I did pay £60, probably would of kept it at this price.

While I'm sure selling ex display is ok selling "customer returns" without them being marked as such is a bit of a no no but as Curry's are part of the DSG group or "The great Satan" as I like to call them - it's no surprise.
Had one of these since they first came out, adding a USB hard drive makes them a great single tuner PVR.
can confirm seeign in llanelli last week... never posted tho .. nice deal tbh
i have this model why on earth can't you use a USB pen drive only usb hard drive maybe im missing somthing but it does not give the option to format and use it for recording ??

Sure i read somewhere that it needs 20 gig or something for a buffer? But that might have been a dream

Try formatting the USB to a HDD file format on your PC.

Also OP, THANK YOU for posting this. I'm gonna try and pick one of these up tomorrow as I live like 3 mins away

I have this I love it, with a 250 gb HDD, in the instructions it says you need to use a Hard with it's own power source, I wanted to use a 2.5inch USB powered but no luck. Freeview box is much faster than my TV's freeview. You can watch a different channel and record. Or you can record on this box and watch programs through your TV's freeview. Only problem is volume. I need to turn the TV way up when watching through this rather than the TV. Humax said it is a common problem annd tough luck basically. It is only an issue when switching between TV and freeview box. It also plays you tube and iplayer. Hot at this price if you can get one, I paid more from Humax
This is a stonking deal if you can find one!
Once hacked firmware is added you can do shed loads of things!

See: wiki.hummy.tv/wik…are

Also these will play 1080p Blu-Ray mkv encodes silky smooth no problem provided you quickly run them through mkvmerge gui v2.0.0 (MUST be that older version)
Grab it from here : bunkus.org/vid…exe
If the mkv has DTS audio though you will need to convert that before it will work, best just avoid DTS audio if you want to play it on the humax tbh.

I paid £60 refurbished direct from Humax, best gadget I've bought in ages, fantastic HD freeview box which is regarded as the best on the market atm.

I wanted to use a 2.5inch USB powered but no luck.

I have 2 x 2.5" USB HDD's working on mine, you just need to use a decent POWERED USB hub as obviously the USB port on the Humax cannot provide enough current to power 2 lappy drives.

It has a fantastic web control panel once you use the hacked firmware, you can then control it from your PC or smartphone, see below:

Exactly

Like most of this type of machines they don't provide the enough power over their USB connection, that' why they work with USB sticks that take very, very minor power but even what people think small powered HDD take much more power than solid state memory even at the same memory capacity.

is the USB just for playing, not recording? EDIT: posted too quick... u can record
I've had this box for over a year, and can confirm that I use a 2.5 250gb external drive straight from the usb. Works fine for recording and playback.

I also use, as Leftfield stated, the custom firmwares that allow you to install all kinds of new fuctions and features. Sky player for one example.
can anybody post a product number? will be trying to pick one of these up tomorrow

also i know i wont be the only one but if someone finds 2 will be willing to pay postage +£10 ontop
Good price for one of these, paid about the same for a used model on eBay recently - I'll have to try the USB recorder and see if I can get it to work
Pair one of these with its big brother - the HDR-FOX T2 - and you can stream recordings from the HDR-FOX (say downstairs) to the HD-FOX (say in the bedroom). Very good bits of kit, especially with the custom firmware (which will work on the HDR-FOX as well), and nice price - you will struggle to get one on EBAY for this amount.

what firmware is that? would be neat!
Excellent deal, might finally be time to rid myself of Virgin Media.
Can you get sky 1 on this via the portal yet?
I have one of these with a toshiba 2.5" usb powered hdd and it works perfectly. I paid around £50 for a refurb so this is a great deal!
Anyone got a product code?
Just been to the store on Newport Rd, Cardiff and they're not selling it at that price. :-(

Really? Was about to pop down :L
Just rang to stock check and they guy said it's end of line and they had no more left. Nearest store with on in stock was 30+ miles away from Cardiff

Great deal but expired.
yet another currys / tesco hot deal that nobody can find
No success then? I've overslept....
Had been meaning to pop down and check them both before the Grand Prix
Plenty in our stores Aberdeen but all £99. 99.
I just picked up the last one in my local pc world in kirkcaldy, currys had none left at all. Does have a pre owned sticker on it,but not too bothered at the price
Anyone near:

Currys PC World
Unit 1, Parc Pemberton Retail
Llanelli, Wales SA14 9UZ

It was showing 2 instock on their system this morning when I asked
Had one of these running with a 1TB Western Digital Essential Elements... BRILLIANT box, and intrigued about the hacked firmware you guys are mentioning!!!
Its a fantastic deal, a great box.

Those with alot more money though might want to consider the latest Humax offering (pre-order now)
humaxdirect.co.uk/pro…iew

This properly integrates all cacthup services. Bit hard to explain, but you can use your EPG (and view the last 7 days) to watch any program +it has integration with other devices like IPAD, and a number of other features.

Its a big step up (but costs a hell of a lot more)

But if anyone can find the T2, its a great box (and an new official upgrade is available this week)
