Great price. I got the humax 9150t at argos at christmas for £99. Great machine, don't know how I've managed without it. This has HDMI upscalling and the harddrive is twice the size of the 9150t. I think the 9150t has been discontinued now as they seem hard to buy these days.

1st class interface. just delete all the irrelevant channels to make life easier (e.g. qvc, radio channels).

best feature is the FIND facility to locate programmes over the next 8 days (e.g all FILMS or those with a string in it)

This is very similar to sky+, but freeview. You can just select what you want to record from the tv guide on the box, or use series link that records every episode of a series. The series link feature requires the broadcaster to send the right times, its not always reliable.

Do not use series link for C5, Fiver or FiveUSA unless you want several recordings of the same program

never used sky+, but this is good w/o subscription.

u cant use it to record premium channels though

As I mentioned in a Topfield thread a few days ago, it may be worth waiting to see what's available towards the end of the year when there should be some pvr's available that are ready for the HD channels which will be starting in Granada from December 2nd (I think) and then in other areas from next year. If that's noy something that your going to be bothered about then this is definitely one of the best boxes available at the moment, but it's worth considering. Unfortunately there's no info about Freeview HD boxes yet, but I've no doubt that Humax will be working on one and would suspect it'll be one of the best. It's all going to upset a lot of people though when they realise that their expensive HD ready freeview TV won't actually show HD Freeview channels without a separate box.

If you really want a decent Freeview pvr now, then this Humax is no doubt one of the best ones available, but you may want to hold out for a few months to see what's coming, or take a bit of a gamble and get a cheapo pvr and hope it's ok. My Digifusion FVRT145 has been going strong for about 4 years or so and is fine - admittedly with a bit of tlc to keep it going - I just hope it holds out until a decent, reasonably priced HD pvr is available next year.

Couldn't agree more, and I suspect that their Freeview HD one will be similar with a similar price tag, I was just mentioning it for those who may not realise that Freeview will be having a massive :whistling: 4 HD channels (BBC, ITV, C4 and another) coming soon, and so anybody who can't get or doesn't want a satellite dish may want to consider waiting.

I'm fairly sure that to get the full benefit of the Freesat Humax pvr you need to have had Sky+ or get your dish installation upgraded as the basic sky dish installation doesn't allow 2 channels to be recorded at once. Could be wrong though.

Yes you will need dual LMB feeds to get the full benefit or quad if you want sky+ as well. As you say it is well worth waiting

Sorry we are talking about a different freesat HD Humax box:thumbsup:

Apologies if this is a silly question but... can this be used to record from a standard Sky box? Have Sky+ set up in other room if that makes any difference but its house mates so I don't use it, cheers.

You can edit the start and finish times though which is useful

This box wont accept inputs from other av sources so you wouldn't be able to plug your sky box into it to record as I understand it.

It's only a standard definition Freeview box. Anyone waiting for HD to arrive on Freeview, then you'll all need to buy new boxes anyway and it may not arrive in some areas until 2012.

Free HD is available right now but only on Freesat and the Humax Freesat PVR will work with a sky dish with just one cable but will have limited capabilities for recording. For full recording functionality you'll need a twin/quad lnb and twin cables as supplied for Sky+ (but without a contract).

Can I use this as my Sky+ box as the Amstrad one Sky issued me keeps breaking down (pi*sed!)?

No Emma sorry.

This is a freeview terrestrial TV box.. Is your Sky+ box not covered by their warranty?

nope. you will need a freesat box.

Hi,

Does anyone know of a good replacement remote control for this Humax PVR.

Thanks.

I had the Humax 9200T and a very good machine, it's one of the two top PVR's money can buy for freeview (Topfield is the other one). Surprised the price is so high though especially with HD freeview at the end of the year which this won't do, you can get refurbs cheaper but not new

these are spose to be the best PVR boxes you can get have some heat

most of the population wont get freeview hd until 2012

Is there anyway to record from a Virgin digi box with this or any other PVR? Or do I have to get their V+ box?

I'm sure they're fine until something goes wrong. My Humax arrived dead on arrival direct from them last week, can't get anyone to fix it, when I get through on one number they tell me to call another. Promise phone calls and don't call back. Nobody will take ownership of the problem, and 10 minutes plus hold time.

Wouldn't touch them with someone else's barge pole.

Very good offer, shame I can't afford it at the moment.

You could try one of the Harmony’s or a One for all:thumbsup:

Great piece of kit, I bought ours from Argos 3 months ago. The only thing to watch out for is that the first release of firmware had the fan spinning at full speed every time you turn the PVR on (recording or playing programmes), so it could be a bit noisy.

I downloaded the updated firmware from the Humax site and it made a massive difference, but if you don't fancy getting a cable our and updating it manually, the update is also broadcast over the air occasionally.

The site for checking which OTA firmware updates is:

dtg.org.uk/ind…php

Thanks Geemac,

I've tried the One for All URC7562 and programmed it from their website, but could not work out which button was the 'OK' button.

I will probably buy a new one from Humax for £30.

:thumbsup:Ditto;
I own one of these and am very impressed with it. If you want a cheap alternative to rip off sky then go for this

Give these guys a ring. they'll sort you out.

Does this record from your cable box ok ?

It's not designed to accept external sources to record from.

I just bought one on the high recommendations from the Argos customer rating page - reviews.argos.co.uk/149…htm

I already have a Digifusion 80Gb Freeview recorder with twin recorders but it was the larger disk size that swayed me. Now I have learned from reviews that there is a single button setting that allows you to record every programme in a series - this saves having to remember to record it each week or day.

There is also a programme search which has received praise from reviewers. I am not sure if I will need this very often but it sounds handy to have.

In short, I have heard good reports of the Humax brand and this is the best price I can see for this machine. Many thanks to the OP for spotting it. Heat added.
