Works for me for this item, but I don't have an aerial so thought I'd try the freesat version and get the error saying not valid.

So maybe you are not choosing the correct model?

X)We got ours last year (October) to replace the Sky box we ditched. It's a decent machine, but the firmware can be a bit flaky at times, needing to be restarted more than the Sky box did.Still, it does Freesat recording, Netflix, YouTube, iPlayer, ITV Hub or STV Player, Demand 5, 4 for all, streaming from NAS drives etc. If it did Amazon Prime as well, it would almost be a perfect device if you don't own a smart TV.

Quite right! I blame my mild dyslexia for mistaking my HDR1000S, for this item; apologies.

Switch on your TV set and the Humax product that you wish to change the remote code.2. Make sure that any other Humax product that you do not wish to control is in Standby or powered OFF at the mains.3. Point the remote control towards the remote control sensor of the target receiver.4. Press and hold the 0 and OK buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds until the PVR button on the remote stays red.5. A message will appear on the TV screen: You can change the remote control mode. Press a Numeric Key (1 ~ 6) to select the mode Current mode: Mode 16. Press a NUMERIC button (from 1 to 6) to select a different mode.7. A message confirming the change of Mode will appear on screen. My remote is still a bit laggy, but it seems to work much better - the erratic remote was driving me mad!

Thanks for the advice. I will take a look at this, much appreciated

Great price for both items, this allows the Main box live and recordings can be viewed in multiply locations.

Unfortunately, and unusually for Humax, the FVP4000T has been problematic since its first release:

https://myhumax.org/forum/forum/fvp-4000t-1

There have been goodness knows how many firmware releases to try to sort the problems out, but every time one issue is fixed, another one pops up - random reboots at present.

Check out the Amazon reviews. This model should never have been released on the market. Theoretically, it's brilliant - but only when it chooses to work.

Humax FVP-4000T 500gb - Refurb £139.99 + £7 P&P (£145.99) @ Humax

These are usually £159.99, today they are £139.99 + £7 P&P or they have the FVP-4000T 500gb + H3 expresso for £199.01 delivered.

You can buy these new for £149.99. Richer Sounds will beat that price by £5. So £145 all in brand new. Why buy one refurbished?? Some of the sites online give 2 year warranty.

I just bought the 1tb model from them today. They price matched at £179.99 and then knocked £5 off. Very little haggling required. Try looking at Pricespy.co.uk. Great comparison site. Queues can be busy pending on the size of the store.

Do you have to have high speed broadband for this ?

Not for the core PVR functionality but would be recommended for the catch up TV functionality like iPlayer, ITV hub etc, would probably work on slower connections, just not in HD for the catch up TV....

Do you have to have high speed broadband for this ?

A bit cheaper than RRP but IMO these are pricey for only 500GB storage and the names just make it sound like they are trying to ape an overpriced coffee at starbucks

Seriously, Humax do make fine PVRs but if you shop around and are fine with used (which basically includes refurb anyway) far better deals can be had. I recently got a Humax HDR-1000S 2TB (Freesat PVR) on eBay for just over £100. Yes the 1000S is an old model but who cares, it still records TV just as well, you don't really need the latest model with PVRs and can save a lot by getting last years (or couple of years) model.....

The remote was white, like the box, and both appeared brand new. Sorry not to make myself clear. I've got it running from my old Sky dish which I now have to upgrade to HDplus (ie quad LNB and additional coax down lead kit). Got in mind this one and would appreciate comments:-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120608902844?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Latter probably better for me, as I have an older dish than a Mk4 and will need an LNB adapter

Ozodimal, was the remote you recieved white or black as the HDR1010s originally shipped with a white remote? I'm just wondering if it's a bit of pot luck as to what remote you get.

For anyone else who has ordered one of the refurbs, did you get a programmable remote to be able to control the TV, and if so which model did you buy? Looking to get one myself and would prefer a programmable one if possible.

Thanks Majumba. Your HDR 1000S remote doesn't seem to match the picture in the Manual, where it says that the TV button will blink once when pressed. If it doesn't then it suggests that Humax's claim that refurbished items (including ancillaries) will "look and work as new" is not the case with your remote. You have a 1 year warranty and it should be honoured! Have you tried going through the TV setting procedure ignoring the fact that the TV button does not light? It might work if you haven't. Obviously something I'll have to look out for (same remote on the 1010S).

I find Windows as a front end more problematic as Kodi cannot maintain focus so here Linux based OSes are better IMHO. I run FireTV/Kodi and OpeneElec boxes with a 4 tuner TBS DVB-T2 card on the backend.

Also fire tv kodi and openelec are both Linux based.

Can't comment on Argus TV as I haven't used it but a headless Linux server that does everything, file server, Dlna, PVR, cloud backup etc. Is what I use and it has been faultless.

I also use kodi clients for true multiroom that can all access shared recordings, live tv etc independently. I tested recording four channels whilst playing 4 movies and it didn't fall over.

Thanks

I have a refurbed 1000s and it's been going strong for a while now.

Good points: Excellent pic quality on HD channels, pretty quiet, no subs required, catchup nicely integrated into EPG, will play video content via USB/DLNA, Showcase (TV picks from Freesat) can be handy to skim through weekly to pick up stuff to record, YouTube/BBC Sport+News apps a nice bonus, handy Search facility that picks up progs from the third input char onwards.

Bad points: Pointlessly clicky buttons on remote, can't re-order channels (can delete them though which is what I do), adds new channels without prompting you first, UI is clunky (too many menu levels in places and criminal lack of coloured button shortcuts), front panel LED often has massively distracting scrolling text (insulation tape fixed that for me!), a couple of apps have pay-per-view content which totally goes against the name Freesat in my books.

It's not a perfect box (and some buggy firmware updates haven't helped, though the latest update finally seems OK), but on balance, well worth the purchase, especially if you're ex-Sky.

It may be the slimmest but it's relying on a not so slim sub to get the depth of sound so you need to stick that somewhere. Anyway have some heat because it's 6:22pm

Good post OP. Unfortunately £22 pounds for postage to Northern Ireland. I could but a new one for that much extra. So fed up with companies using overpriced couriers for Northern Ireland when Parcelforce will deliver here for buttons.

Is it still the case that the HD recordings can not be transferred to Windows for editing?

From what I understand freeview is for from an aerial and freesat if signal off a satellite dish. Don't know if any do both. Been looking at the DTR models myself, sound better than the HDR? Can't remember what the difference is though, there's even a dtr-t6000 for hi-res recording of sport.

I have the 1TB wifi-less model. It's a great bit of kit. You can connect it to your internet router/firewall, and there's a FreeSat app for Android which in theory allows you to set the timer on the set top box; in practise I find it doesn't work reliably.
