Was in Costco in Reading yesterday, and they had a large stock of Hydrosoft Salt Tablets 25KG for water softeners which scanned through at 4.59 + VAT so £5.51.

Costco had stocked salt tablets before but stopped at couple of months ago, so i am hopeing this is national.

I just recently bought the same size bag for £13.50, so absolute bargain.

Great deal - I had to buy loads of this and still had to pay a couple of pounds more per bag (though it was delivered). Be interested to see if Costco deliver.
Would these work OK for dishwashers or am I best to stick to normal granulated dishwasher salt?

It would be fine, just that the granulated type is easier to pour in.
Hi All,

Does anyone know if these are available in store at either the Watford or Wembley Costco's?

Many Thanks!
Can anyone say if the Leicester/Thurmaston store has these please? Thanks.

Yes.
It's the normal price, I only ever remember it being around a fiver since buying it from Costco.

I wouldn't recommend it,as small tablet, the machine might not recommended it, tablet salts are deffo different from granulated

Salt for a dishwasher or domestic water softener is exactly the same - pure Sodium Chloride. Tablet isn't the best for a dishwasher because it is more difficult to put in, and you can't get as much in so you would fill it up slightly more often but no other difference. 25 Kg for just a dishwasher is possibly a bit overkill though.

There's a very obvious difference in the purity of the two products, though, as evidenced by the residue in the softener after a while. Theoretically, both are just Sodium Chloride, and it's not actually that difficult to use the softener tablets in a dishwasher - I did it for years.

The warming on a new Miele dishwasher about the warranty persuaded me to change to 'proper' dishwasher salt (though in reality I doubt they could prove anything) - it's cheap enough from Lidl at just 99p for two kilos.

Both water softeners and dishwashers use ion exchangers that are damaged by impurities in exactly the same way and need the same quality of salt. Water softeners come with exactly the same type of warnings, Miele just want you to purchase their product. Hydrosoft tablets is very pure and recommended by many water softener companies.

I'm quite happy with Hydrosoft - used it for years. But it does leave very clear evidence of impurities at the bottom of the salt chamber.
My dad uses stuff in his pond. He pays about £15 bag but it's not special animal stuff, just standard. Will see if my local has them in later today. What's the "normal" Costco price?
that is the normal Costco price, as i checked my receipt after and there was no offer reduction on it at the end of the receipt, like when they have offers.

The label stated above where they were in the store was £6.39 after VAT, so maybe this is a mis price, but even at £6.39 its cheap

Great, thanks. I went into Reading Costco just before Christmas and there were no salt tablets all. Was afraid they had stopped stocking it. Heat added.
