I'm looking for a budget gaming headset for my son for his Xbox one S for Christmas, this or some Turtle Beach X12's?

Transformed my gaming experience, love this headset, couldn't recommend it enough.

I am also buying a set for my almost-13 year old. These are the ONLY set I'm considering - because I know the build quality will mean they will last. He has gone through quite a few sets of headphones, they all seem to snap after a matter of weeks because the headband is plastic...whereas these are metal.

There is also a Cloud II headset but it's double the price, and I haven't had 1st hand experience of those. I know these will be more than up to the job. Also the mic is detachable (and therefore potentially replaceable).

I would recommend the hyperx ones. They are actually really good. You can even detach the microphone and just use them as headphones. The presentation box you get is really good too.

which are these on Amazon? the only ones I can find at £53.99 have a different manufacturing code to the ones at Maplins

Just to give you the heads up. Turtle Beach are cheaply manufactured and £ to performance the quality is dreadful. But these are what kids want, TB were the first to make a 3rd part headset for Xbox 360 and all the kids wanted one. Unfortunately they have managed to keep their cheaply made headsets selling to the console users.

Highly advise you to get either the above as a budget set or look more down the lines of Sennheiser/HyperX/Plantronics.

All the clouds are the same, they're rebranded takstars, but with different accessories. Cloud II have a USB soundcard for (optional) 7.1, Cloud Core don't have all the attachments but will work with all consoles still. All of them work with PC as default.

I can actually personally vouch for these headphones, used them for CSGO at the Dreamhack event in London last year, excellent sound quality and positioning. Maplin also called me when I reserved to tell me there is a £5 gift card they give to you instore after the purchase. Seems pretty good, a wicked deal so far. I'll get back to everyone about headset comfort and mic quality when I pick it up later!

Not as far as I'm aware. Why would you need it? To be honest the noise suppression on the cups is so good you probably wouldn't here anything anyway.

EDIT: Doh! I'm guessing you mean a mute on the mic? No there is not. It's attached with e 3.5mm jack though, so VERY easy to simply pull the mic out when you want to mute it.

I was going to buy them then and nearly checked out but how can you have a gaming headset without a mic mute, I wouldn't want to keep unplugging the jack as I presume I'd loose audio then and it can't be good on the connector keep plugging and unplugging.

I bought this headset from gearbest for £33

Mine's ok after doing this after a couple of years

You don't lose audio if you either a) physically unplug the mic from the headset, or b) unplug the mic jack ONLY from the splitter.

I've been looking on the internet and is there not a mute button on the control box?

I have the cloud 2 and they are incredible for the price. Seems like a good price to me!!! Pretty sure there's a mute button on the little control box thingy on the 2's, but could be wrong

I've got these and can confirm there's a mute button on the control box. It definately mutes my voice on Xbox one.

I have a mute switch on the box on mine too, but as someone pointed out in an earlier reply, these might only come with the extension wire and not the wire + audio box.

sorry, not being arsey but if you have a mute button why have you been pulling the mic lead out for 2 years to mute it as per message #17?

I always have the 'phones connected to the controller, so never have a need to use the box or extension (both have very long wires). I normally only use them at night so rarely have a need to mute/unmute the mic.

One of the handful of 'gaming' headsets that actually sound. Heat added.

Highly recommend these as a budget headset

I have the cloud 2; comfortable with great sound and the cloud 1 is great too, excellent for this price.

best headset I've ever had, currently own turtle beach phantoms, astro a40 with mix amp and a few others, for the money you can't beat hyper x

is this compatible with PS3?

Anyone know what the difference between HyperX Cloud and HyperX Cloud Core?
The Maplin deal is for the core.
Just checked amazon and they also have the core for £39.99, which obviously doesn't account for the £5 voucher you will get from Maplin.

I have TB P11s and the sound quality is fantastic. They give me a distinct advantage in games like Rainbow Six Siege where you need pinpoint audio accuracy.
They also have a mic mute button.

I think with the core you don't get the usb audio adaptor, so it's just got 3.5mm analogue plugs. The headset itself is built like a tank for the money and sounds better than any Turdle beach I've heard. Crappy pleather like almost any headphone under £100, and although really comfy they get a bit hot being a closed headphone design.

I mentioned this earlier and asked the OP which is the one on Amazon he said was the same being sold for £53.99 as detailed in the description of this deal. It now seems it isn't but is intact the same price as Amazon. I'm presuming the core doesn't come with the control box that contains the amplifier and volume control, on that basis I don't think this deal is as good as first thought or explained in the ops description. As for the £5 voucher you need another spend of over £10 to redeem it.

If you check it's actually Maplin selling this on Amazon...

I genuinely didn't realise there was a difference between the Maplin version and the £53.99 set on Amazon. I can 100% confirm that the "control box" is *not* an amplifier as you've stated. It is an in-line extension box with volume and mic-mute controls. Someone mentioned USB; it definitely does not come with that either.

Trust me, this is a *great* deal on these headphones. I paid £49.99 over 2 years ago for mine, and that was a Black Friday special. The fact that they hardly ever waver in price speaks volumes. Granted you don't get the volume control box the the headphones are exactly the same, and for this price you won't find much better.

Just picked these up, 5% student discount too making them £37.99

Please can someone confirm if this headset is compatible with the PS4 out of the box?

Is the mic quality any good?

Doubt it as it comes with the Cloud model and not the Cloud core model. If it was available it would probably be more than £13 which is the extra amount the Cloud version is being sold for on Amazon anyway.
Edited by: "paulj48" 5th Nov 2016

These are supposed to be pretty decent. I'm not sure if this works on console but you are almost always better off with a decent pair of headphones and a separate mic on PC(I'm too cheap to pay for multiplayer on my consoles so I only do it on pc ).
The mic I use is the zalman clip on mic £7.28 delivered:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zalman-ZM-MIC1-ZMMIC1-Lapel-Microphone/dp/B00029MTMQ

If you or your kids already have a decent pair of headphones this would be a cheaper and possibly superior option.
