480Gb SSD - This is the best price I can find for a drive bigger than 400gb since the pound has been pounded on the currency markets.

  • SandForce SF-2281 controller for SATA Rev 3.0 (6 Gb/s) performance
  • Entry-level SSD with read/write speeds of 500/500 MB/s
  • Enables faster map and level load times with increased frames per second
  • 2.5 inch SSD in a 7 mm form factor suitable for desktops and notebooks
  • Can work as a boot drive or a true hard drive replacement

Faster fps with a SSD ?
I have the savage version of this drive, same capacity and it's not that great. I paid 130 for it and I wish I'd got a decent m2 drive.

Not all laptops or computers can take M2 drives.

- SATA is a straight swap for the old school spinning-metal-disk 5400/7200rpm drives that most have.

With the short supplies of NAND, this is a good price in the current market.
SANDFORCE 2281 controller in 2017 ... I doubt you'll be seeing 500mb wrtes any time soon..
good HDD replacement tho..

An SSD is simply storage, it won't increase your FPS but it will significantly decrease load times.

SATA is the data specification so you can get SATA M.2 drives.

Hi boxy,

can you perhaps share a link to one of these 'SATA M2' drives?

Here's one.

If you zoom in on the images you can even see them clearly labelled as 'Serial ATA' drives (which they are). Until the newer NVMe (PCI Express) M.2 SSDs recently appeared all the previous M.2 drives were SATA.
Yes I would like a sata m2 2242 length but samsung evo 128 or 256 would be nice, seems they only do msata which is slightly different AFAIK.

it's interesting but looking at the connector it's not a Sata connection. It's clearly got 2 notches cut in the end that connects.

>> SATA only has one 'grove' separating its pins out:

Like what I said, unless your laptop already has an M2 connector and space for an M2 ssd then a SATA drive is the only viable option.

You were trying to say that there is an M2 drive that fits into a SATA connection. There isn't, M2 is a different connector to SATA.

Square Peg --> Round Hole.

This has confused me now as was looking at m2 drives (I know nothing about them other than my mobo has a m2 slot). Is this whole page on scan wrong then as it says M2 SATA drives. I take it it's sata but uses PCIE connectors?

if your mobo has an m2 slot then you can fit an m2 drive! - you might need to change the boot preference if you leave the old Sata drive connected.

I bought this for my laptop (which like many laptops doesn't have an m2 slot).
