Another alert on eReaderIQ for me. The book behind the film starring Will Smith.

An acclaimed SF novel about vampires. The last man on earth is not alone ...

Robert Neville is the last living man on Earth ... but he is not alone. Every other man, woman and child on the planet has become a vampire, and they are hungry for Neville's blood.

By day he is the hunter, stalking the undead through the ruins of civilisation. By night, he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn. How long can one man survive like this?

Heston's take on the book is the best adaption.
Remember watching the movie and enjoying it which made me want to read the book. Then after reading the book I wished they'd actually made the book as written. Really great story and not a long read either.

There are at least three movies of the book, Vincent Price did one, Charlton Heston did Omega man all long before the fresh Prince was even born

I was aware there were others. I just haven't watched them yet. If I remember they deviate quite heavily from the book as well don't they?

that’s good to hear - my friend who’s read it said something similar. I remember watching the film, thinking it was ok, but a book could explore some bits in more detail.

I do indeed, I'll see if I can check that out this weekend. Thanks for the recommendation.

I have to admit when I was reading the book I was just thinking that Lance Henriksen would have been great as Robert Neville
Loved this book LOOOOONG before Will Smith and co ruined it.
You can see where Stephen King gets his style from in this book. He admits it too.
Richard Matheson wrote a few good others too the one that sticks in the mind was "Real Steel" about Robot boxing. Made into a very decent film with Hugh Jackman

There is an interesting script out there for an unmade version that was developed by Ridley Scott for Arnold Schwarzenegger to star in. It’s a bit closer to the book than the Will Smith version.
Omega Man was great movie
Love the book, different and better than the film
Loved this book. A really good read.
Enjoyed the book and the film.
Awesome book. I watched the Will Smith film before I read the book and really enjoyed it.

However, they should've used real actors for the vampires instead of CGI and they should've used the ending of the book, would've been so much better.

Got another copy of the book from a charity shop so defo gonna read it again, as well worth another read.
the damn dog broke my heart in the book
Heston Movie version the best of the bunch

Couldn't believe how bad the CGI was in the Will Smith version

Which is a shame as originally they did have actors in full makeup and it looked 100 times better. You can find the work Amalgamated Dynamics Inc (usually just ADI) did on youtube if you're interested in what it looked like.

The same guys had all their practical work on The Thing (2011) scrapped in favour of poor CGI as well and these guys are top notch as they used to work for Stan Winston (Jurassic Park, Terminator etc)
