Despised for his weakness and regarded by his family as little more than a stammering fool, the nobleman Claudius quietly survives the intrigues, bloody purges and mounting cruelty of the imperial Roman dynasties. In "I, Claudius", he watches from the sidelines to record the reigns of its emperors: from the wise Augustus and his villainous wife Livia to the sadistic Tiberius and the insane excesses of Caligula. Written in the form of Claudius' autobiography, this is the first part of Robert Graves' brilliant account of the madness and debauchery of ancient Rome, and stands as one of the most celebrated, gripping historical novels ever written

Excellent, one of the best things I've read. 'Claudius the God' is its sequel.

Exactly what I thought when I saw the deal
How the hell can a classic novel be "not safe for work" ? This place gets more snowflake every day
Fantastic story, written almost as an autobiography of the Emperor himself
Shame Graves didn't follow it up with say, a similar thing by Vespasian or his son Titus about all the Nero goings on the "Golden House, murdering his scheming mother and the wars against the Jews, the writings of Josephus (Interestingly he mentions Jesus) would help with that, the Colosseum (named after Nero's 120 ft tall statue that stood alongside it for a few hundred years) in fact its prime ground for someone to do as Graves did with the Claudio-Julians

Absolutely.
And now the "academics" who have worked so hard in last dozen years to make Labour unelectable have struck again, in a side issue in the news slightly related - they want make saying "nerd" and "geek" a "hate crime" with jail as punishment with police making themselves look like KGB at their worst.
Snowflakes ? A massive understatement mate.
Comments about history needing to be censored.....astonishing, but true from some

I totally agree, unfortunately my boss didn't see it that way, i'm now on my way home to tell my wife and children that Christmas is cancelled because daddy accidentally stumbled across 'Art' on the internet and got fired
