We're All Special Characters

We love us some ISO 8879. In addition to setting the groundwork for XML, it also allowed us to insert silly characters into our .sig files. We bet Subcommittee 34 of Joint Technical Committee 1 of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) never anticipated that. Or they probably would have officially formed a working group to deprecate the use of silly characters purely as decoration.

Where would we be without ISO public identifier ISO 8879:1986//ENTITIES Publishing//EN//XML? Ellipses would just be three periods. We'd have to use the number two, a slash, and the number three to represent two-thirds. The em dash and en dash would be lumped together under the character "hyphen." That's no way to live. Viva la ISO 8879!

I ♥ ISO 8879 is printed in white and red on a black, 100% cotton t-shirt.

whats the delivery on this?

That will go down a storm when you explain it to the ladies.

whats the delivery on this?

expensive, i've ordered from them before but only big orders justify the postage costs.

Haha mch1, who needs expensive cologne when you have this t-shir!

I like ThinkGeek's stuff (I used to buy my Penny Arcade books from them), but I thought HUKD had a policy against posting foreign deals?

Shipping ChargesHow much is shipping? It depends on what you are ordering, … Shipping ChargesHow much is shipping? It depends on what you are ordering, how much you are ordering, and where it is shipping. You can determine the cost of shipping your order by adding the items you want to the shopping cart and entering your zip code or country in the Shipping Estimator on the cart page. You can also get the shipping cost during checkout - you will need to fill out your shipping address in order to view the shipping options and cost. International ShippingDo you ship outside the U.S.?Absolutely. After placing items in your shopping cart, proceed to the checkout area. Complete the Shipping and Billing information, including selecting your country. We have chosen DHL and UPS as the carriers for our International orders. They both offer reasonable shipping rates (compared to other express carriers) and fast delivery times. We do not use the Post Office for International orders because they do not offer a suitable package tracking system. Your shipment should arrive in about 3 to 5 business days and when your order ships we send a tracking number via e-mail, so you can monitor the status of your shipment. Will I have to pay customs fees on my order?Your order will probably be charged customs fees (taxes, duties, processing fees, brokerage fees, etc.) when it arrives. Unfortunately, ThinkGeek has no control over these fees. If you are not familiar with the customs fees in your country, please check with your local customs office for more information. Also, because we are a retail store, we are NOT able to mark orders as 'Gifts' for customers to avoid paying these fees. The shipping charges you pay to ThinkGeek do NOT include customs fees, import taxes, brokerage fees, or duties. If you refuse to pay the customs fees when your order arrives, the shipment will be returned to ThinkGeek and we will be charged the customs fees plus return shipping costs. Therefore, we do not issue refunds for customs fees, shipping, or the cost of your order if you refuse to pay the customs fees. ThinkGeek has no way of estimating customs fees, taxes, duties, etc. so please do not ask us to do so - we don't have this information. Please contact your local customs office if you need to know more. It is possible that the delivery of your order could be delayed due to customs processing. If your order does not arrive in a reasonable amount of time, you should check with your local customs office to see if they are holding the package for payment of fees. Also, some customs offices will send a separate invoice for your customs fees that could arrive several weeks after you receive your shipment. Please be familiar with the customs laws in your country before you order!

Cheapest available shipping for this t-shirt to the UK would seem to be $22.45.....

I have ordered from ThinkGeek before.

Cool stuff, but you WILL get clobbered with customs fees at some extortianate rate due to a spat between the Eu and the US over clothing quotas or some such. ".... they charge Customs duties of 12% for "fabric" clothing made from cotton... ", but this is on the "end cost" which includes carriage.

THEN... "After adding the customs duty to the total cost of the clothing, they then add [email protected] 17 1/2% on the after Customs duty figure". For 17.5% read 15% for the time being, but it is still a double whammy.

Maybe they won't bother on a single item, but when I bought everal shirts I had to pay about £8.00 to HM revenue....

Voted hot for making me smile!
