Thanks Andywedge & Moorjock - Glad someone appreciates the post

Seems to be getting more and more that if its not edible and under a pound its not a deal nowadays on here. Tastes are changing lol.

Damn, I need a cheap box set of the albums I don't already have

Under rated vocalist IMHO, Deep Purple In Rock is one of my all time fav albums, or can I still say LP??

heat!

Used to love Deep Purple from Gillans time.
Ended up realizing that his vocal style had no range, and was exactly the same on every song. Still, enjoyed some of the stuff he did with DP. He had a very high opinion of his own worth to DP, as did Blackmore, who had good reason to think he was DP's be all and end all.
No wonder they were always at each others throats. Blackmore was proved right, Gillan's one-dimensional vocals didn't have a long lasting appeal.

By the way - Moorjock - what are you on about ? I can't recall any item of food being raved over. Its mainly electrical/computer/games that get the thumbs up (and the pompous sneering at quality of such, and "been posted before" comments from the bores - or the bike whores raving about five hundred quid bikes !)

I dont agree with much of this. Deep Purple are still going strong, with Mr Gillan on vocals. They are still superb live.

Blackmore wrote the music to most of the classics though, but Gillans style was perfect for them, and he does have more variety than you suggest.

I've never been so thrilled with his solo stuff, because the songs are not as strong, but he's a great rock singer.

would get it if it contained Future Shock, voted hot though

Thats no problem. Each to their own. Always found his screeching a pain. At the time (a BRIEF time) I thought it great, too.
Didn't know he'd rejoined. Shows how out of touch I am. That'd make him what - 65 ?
Just read there about his attitude to Armenia. Very impressive. Applause from me.

What you been listening to?! Whether or not you like him is subjective, but he certainly has range.

He's certainly mid 60s, and he has been back with them for nearly 20 years, during which time they have toured almost continuously, and released a number of decent albums. There is also much more to him than the screams, which he cant actually manage these days.

They're missing "No Laughing In Heaven" and "Mr Universe" ... grrr ... apart from that this is a superb deal; thanks for posting it!

At Christmas 1981 I asked my parents for the Gillan LP "Double Trouble". I could have bought it with my saved pocket money but figured I could wait until Dec 25th. The big day arrived and I got a Transformer. My younger sister got a portable TV. I did NOT get the LP and had to wait until the shops re-opened to go into town to buy the LP. And yes, after almost 30 years this still annoys me!

What? Nothing from the original cast album of Jesus Christ Superstar?

Tragic!.......Your parents had the right idea.... They did'nt want you getting tattoos all over your body, growing your hair girly length and wearing indecently tight trousers. LOL

My hair used to be halfway down my back but alas no longer. No tattoos, although every birthday I keep toying with the idea of having the Motörhead skull logo tattooed on top of my left arm. As for tight trousers, if you knew me you'd know what a bad idea that would be!

I Always found his screeching a pain.

That a bit like saying "I like Katie Price, I just find her breast size a pain" oO

Gillan invented the banshee scream, and has influenced countless rock singers.

Saw him perform in Glasgow last November, into his 60s and is still amongst the best of his generation.
