SCH Trade have dropped their price on pretty much every B grade notebook they stock. Pick of the bunch for me that I've just picked up an X61 for £66.79. To get the price just do the following

- add to basket
- enter code 'DAFFODIL' at the checkout screen without quotes

Overall a pretty nice spec for a 12inch laptop built like a brick with
good battery life for under £100

RAM 4GB
Hard Drive Capacity 80GB
Processor Type Core 2 Duo
Processor Clock Speed 2GHz

Useful links in the first post for other kit you may want/need

very poor quality and very old (more than 5-6 yrs) laptops which have had a pretty abused life. I had ordered one recently from them and was very disappointed with the condition. Definitely you buy thrice when you buy cheap, here.

If portability is important then this is the obvious choice, the DDR2 in these is quite expensive to buy now by comparison to DDR3 so probably best to leave it and wait for stock with more ram to come in if the t61 is what you're after.

Plenty of previous happy customers, some duds do get through but the majority are fairly good units with light marks.

I have a £1000 machine as my primary laptop, most who will buy this will be in a similar boat that it's a useful spare for dragging to the garage when doing work, giving to the kids as a cheap solid first computer or as a throwaway system where it will get banged about. I've puchased this myself to sit in bed with/take on holiday for entertainment and not to really have to care about how I treat it. For under £100 it's ideal as if it gets lost I wont be loosing any real sleep compared to if if I lost my main laptop.

Edited by: "Astec123" 16th Mar 2013

Last time these were posted I was inspired and got an old X60 (not from SCH but from eBay), but if you're prepared to put a bit of time, effort and money (I really would get a cheap ssd) into this you will end up with a very capable Win 7 machine that is, as pointed out above, built like the proverbial.

Beware these don't have a trackpad but a little nub on the keyboard that acts as a mouse. They're very divisive instruments.

Hm, let's see this for under £70 vs a cheap as cheap HP 655 recently posted for about three times the price. Passmark:
X61 1227 Intel Core2 Duo T7300 @ 2.00GHz
655 850 (AMD E2-1800 APU @ 1.7GHz
Ok, a Core2 @ 2GHz is not fast these days but still worth pointing out that this is still very usable. And quality-wise a Thinkpad would have to be compared to an HP Elitebook / Probook B.

That's the thing about impulse buying, a few clicks and its done. Entering card details gives me time to think about what i'm doing X) I'll try again later, doubt they'll sell out as there are too many snobs on here to buy old tech no matter how well built it is. I've still got my old T23 from about 7 years ago, still running 100%. Could use 12 inches though......

Agreed, but they describe specific variations, with 4 cell battery, bigger HDD, a real life measurement might be better... I was also curious if they come with 7200rpm HDD?

I bought one of these a while ago for my son from SCH Trade. Been very pleased with it, got cheap copy of W7 (from another post on here) and it works great. The first one they sent had a BIOs password on that could not be cracked, but phoned them up and they were really helpful and sent it back free of charge and they sorted out very quickly. These things happen and I always judge companies on how they sort issues like this out and they were 1st class. So my experience of them is very good and the x61 although older is still a neat and nifty little laptop that runs W7 and does all that we need of it. highly recommend.

I'm one of them had a near mint Dell Latitude D420 from them recently. Using it now (Running Linux - Fuduntu 2013.2) Battery lasts 3hrs 40mins when browsing ect. Upgraded the Ram to 2GB last week and got a charger for £6.80. Came with a XP Pro COA on the bottom.

Great for web browsing and some light gaming (World of Goo on Steam) or a classic like Broken Sword ect. not bad for around £90 in total.

Sadly no one will be able to confirm that for you until it arrives, it will be at most 1.6kg but the problem you will face is that we have no real idea what the rest of the models details are so it's most likely going to be the basic spec 5400rpm drive and an unknown battery so if you are buying buy on a worse case scenario.

It should be a SATA disk, I've been planning to buy one of these for ages.

Although they state Grade B are fully tested, obviously they are not tested if they shipped it with the BIOS password active.

Yep does seem to be SATA. Bonus then. **** knows why I thought IDE when my t7500 machine uses SATA lol.

What more could you want for this money.
Possible hackintosh project!
Retro cool looks.
Nub is better than the majority of trackpads on small laptops, as are the buttons.
Great keyboard
Built like tanks (we have a battered thinkpad, that's had a broken hinge for 3 years, missing keys, runs XP very snappy without clean installs and refuses to die)

The Primate labs geekbench scores for the model above this one? are quite respectable for an oldie, 3,288 (running OSX)
My core i5 Macbook Air mid 2011 is 4,600

The CPU is not very fast, but fast enough, I ordered one, although I think it is a gamble, but I think they offer a 7 day money back guarantee, anybody that used it before?

The shipping back to them will be a bit of a problem. Hopefully I will get a good one. I love the Thinkpad keyboard and trackpad (whatever that red dot system is called), and I need a laptop that is actually portable.

Probably Win7 installation will go very easy and all will be detected automatically too.

Anyone know if there is a code that works for desktops?

dont know much about the x61 but i have a t60 and runs windows 7 just fine...
solid laptops as well, i dropped mine on laminate flooring and the flooring came off worst!

get a USB trackball

I hate all laptop installed mice, I always use a trackball, makes you sit much more comfortable, instead of hunched over the laptop

From the wiki:

"The CPU speed will be throttled back to 800MHz or 1200MHz if the machine is run on the 65W AC adapter with no battery installed. To avoid this throttling:
-run on a 90W AC adapter, or
-install a battery pack."

The link on ebay for the adapter is for a 65W one, so keep that in mind.

This one is 95W apparently: ebay.co.uk/itm…43f

EDIT: this is 90W: cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/…128

Edited by: "MaximusRo" 16th Mar 2013

Based on my experience with the company it will not be specced as described.

Pretty much the same spec as those ancient macbooks that were getting tons of heat for a quarter of the price.

Got to be a hot deal.

what this antic calculator will be used for? running freecell?
