If no home bargains near you Aldi and lidl 25p
they are 2 for a pound in the pound shop and always 20p in home bargains so not really a deal if they are just normal priced !!
Thanks carmelina, great price. It's a disgrace that they are 2 for £1 in the pound shop. I always check Savers as well as they're usually cheaper than the pound shop too.

thats the poundland way of making you think its a deal e.g. 3 x paracetamol packs only £1 yet only 19p per pack in other places.

The disgrace is those who claim them on prescription rather than paying 20p-50p a pack

I think 2 packs is the most shops are legally allowed to sell in one transaction. I'm sure pound shops would happily sell them at 4 for a pound and still make money, but they have to choose between either selling them at 2 for a pound or not selling them at all. If I was stuck with a nasty headache, I'd pay a quid for 2 packs over going without!
Not the safest drug for pain control for certain people with certain complaints. and certain ages...

Asda ones are similar priced and probablty the best ones out there.

not sure why this is getting voted hot.. Tesco are only 28p
It's usually a similar price in Sainsburys in my experience. Definitely less than a pound anyhow
obviously available elsewhere around this price.
great price, thanks op

I had nasal polyps removed last yeah, my surgeon told me the cause was possibly ibuprofen as I took them for years to manage a bad hip I have.
I thought these were always cheap, i got mine from Wilko last time. Capsules and tablets.

The product will be identical in all shops, you'll get 200mg of Ibuprofen in each tablet. Its not like hot cross buns where different shops use different recipes. They will also be the identical product as the brand names that cost £2 a packet.
Take with or after food.
I guess it's a deal, here's a couple of prices in the main supermarkets:

Sainsburys: 35p
Asda: 25p
Waitrose: 35p

So it's only a slight saving, and you (should be) limited on the number of packets you can buy at a time, so it's not like you can stock up.

Although interestingly enough, in studies, on average, people report feeling greater pain relief from the branded ones, despite them all containing the same active ingredient. It's the placebo effect, and would appear to indicate a degree of mind over matter. Doesn't work though if you know they contain the exact same active ingredients :-)

In general the paracetamol and ibuprofen that are precribed by doctors are higher strength/quantities used by people who require long term relief. No doctor in the UK would write a script for 16 basic strength tablets that can be purchased for 20p.
Sorry but the doctors also have budgets to adhere too,Any doctor giving out prescriptions for tablets which cost as low as 15p and for which you don't need a prescription for should be struck off.

Simply not true .I've had 3 major operations and never had a branded Anadin or nurofen paracetemol on the road to recovery dished out by Docs or Nurses or even a consultant

?? Erm, yes that's what I'm saying...the pain relief that doctor's prescribe is not proprietary medicine. It's stronger strength/quantities that is not available over the counter.

I had strong painkillers prescribed by my dentist, and boots supplied them for about £2 iirc, whereas if they were on an nhs prescripton they'd have been 8 or 9 quid. So the whole system seems to be mixed up.

Why?

Is your point that people shouldn't use prescriptions for ANY medicines that are available over the counter, or that prescriptions should only be used for expensive medicines?
No thanks, they're a load of balls. I'll just stick to the tried and tested Tramadol next time I'm in pain.

In that case surely the real disgrace is the people who are responsible for running an NHS system where costs are not properly managed?

Bit of a dumb statement seeing as you can't even get Tramadol over the counter.

My point is anything over the counter is crap. A mild headache maybe, but for muscle spasm pain or any other aches you might as well fire down smarties for all the good those tablets will do.
I find its always 3 packs for a quid in the pound shop.

which is why the NHS is ran so superbly, pick up the NHS management and put them into any other business and I guess we could all see how that would end up
